Micheal Vogel continues to spoil us with another fantastic Hearth's warming holiday episode. Best Gift Ever is the best 44-minute special ever made, none of any long special in the show lifetime can compete this. This special gives me some S1 feels but with current character development of 8 seasons, i think the old fan and current fan can love it. I cant remember how many characters didnt appear in this special but they are too many already, and we even got new characters. Did they change Derpy voice again? She sounds difference. I got diabetes whenever i heard her voice. Twilight is getting close to her 'lesson zero' mode. Thanks to Shinning Armor and Cadance can keep her sanity in checks. I want to see this side of Twilight more often. Not even one speaking line for Starlight?! And she didnt even have some bond with the mane 6 at all? Hum... i guess Mane 7 is just a myth, but that is another story. Anyway, Startrix for life! Poor Marble, she realize her ship has been sunk forever. Yay, new creature, not the best new creature this year but still yay. The giant mouse looks disturbing and the reindeers design look weird to me. They look like ponies with just different colors, the comic reindeer look better. The songs are good enough, i still prefer the first song. Spike's solo part is cool, he is no longer the worst singer in FIM. Thanks god, Discord is back to his lovely self! *trying to pretend Matter of Principal didn't exist...* So many strong ships in this ep, with the only one sinking ship (i feel bad for Marble). Will Sparity revive once again or it's another tease? What a damn fine holiday special, even there are just many Hearth's Warming Eve episodes already. Another Micheal Vogel's masterpiece, 10/10. (His best gift ever) Anyway, where is Nightmare Night?

If it isn't suck, why should I feel disappointed or anything?

I dont believe in the limit of character development of this show, i just believe in the limitations of the writers. They just need get the characters out of their comfort zone, give them more challenge to overcome. Why AJ keeping being a traditional farmer like she always do back to S1? Why after Perfect Pear, she didnt teach students anything but her apples in School Daze, especially after she learned that she is half-pear?! See, even Perfect Pear happened, one of the best episode of the show, i didnt see any change in AJ's character or Apple Bloom's. I want to see Rainbow to become a sergeant like Spitfire or something about flying. Well the mane 6 has school now but you knew the school is only matter to Twilight's development as a princess, not other mane 6. The school is there for Twilight and new students, not for Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, AJ and Fluttershy. The school is cool, i like it but to be honest, it adds nothing to the mane 6 character development.

Even with that many characters, i think Shadow Play and School Raze still manage those characters better than the movie...

Yakity-Sax might be not Pinkie's brightest moment (in your definition) but it cannot erase any good things from Pinkie in the past seasons or even THIS season. You cant deny all good Pinkie appearances in this season, can you, how about this? Please, try to name anything negative to these pictures. How a mediocre episode can ruin her entire established character? It isn't even that bad.

Who can miss the face of that little devil's incarnation? Every cartoon villain become dumb after they got full power so I hope they wont get that as long as possible.

Season 8 has very good build-up for its story arc, every ep that build up to the finale (School Daze, Mark for Effort, Friendship University, What Lies Beneath) give us a thrill to see what coming next and they are the good standalone story as well. The only thing that bother me is the mane 6 episodes are not as great as they should be (remember when we got Hurricance Fluttershy, Pinkie Pride, Rarity Take Manehattan?). This season just has many great great episodes the same amount of past seasons but the bad news is they are not mane 6 episodes (as a group or as an invididual).

Cozy Glow just stole this finale, I cant just see this season the same after this eps.

Spike can 'X-ray' Twilight with his words, he can be the good fighter in mortal kombat.

Am i the only one who feel bad for that old pony in the train station? His loneliness must drained all of his sanity, the map should send another small side quest to save that old man's life. A kirin can become burning creature that can burn a whole village if they are mad?! Mother of nature must be very cruel. In the society where everyone can hurt everyone just because they are mad so take away their emotions is a solution, wow, that's dark. I really like Autumn Blaze, i can hear her talking all day. A ton of dialogues didnt make her stroking, its amazing. She is kind of Silver Stream but wiser and more mature. She is a bit of Gabby but far less annoying because of her voice, damn, that voice is good, it isnt some annoying high-pitch cartoon character voice. Animals saved the day again, this is the second time, animals are the crucial part of map mission. Their knowledge cannot be underestimated. The ability to understand animals is very useful once again, Fluttershy is just an mvp in map mission. The song is pretty pleasant to hear, it combine with expositions to tell the story so i can understand what happen while enjoying a good song. This song contain emotions, moral and a good exposition which can be a bit boring if you hear them in mundane conversations. This song is not useless, that what i am trying to say. AJ is just there to hear the story, she isnt useful as Fluttershy.., Well, its a main character job to observe, its a protagonist job to confront the problem. "I'd rather... siiiiiiiiiinging" - Autumn Blaze BEST. EXCUSE. FOR. A. SONG. Ok, Autumn Blaze wins, 9/10. Kirins are cute when they didnt talk but they are even cuter when they are siiiiiinginggggg. This ep just make my day.

She still got her pairing episodes in S7 and S8, which are pretty good (Health of Information and Sound of Silence). Fluttershy still has better state than Pinkie. Forgot to rank these characters for the sake of this topic. Irank them based from their overall performance whether they are the main character or just suporting character. The mane 8 (including Spike and Starlight): 1. Rarity. Whenever this character open her mouth, whatever she said is a blessing to me, i dont know why. Her character stay consistent throughout the season, even her The End in Friend, which people called a Non-compete Clause 2.0, is a MUCH better version. I cant resist her mannerisms. 2. Starlight. She was the best part of some episodes (School Daze, Mark for Efforts, Matter of Principals, Parent Map). Her episode with Trixie received good rating, even considered the best of the season. 3. Spike. He has 3 episodes which features him as main character like Molt Down, Break Up Break Down and the upcoming one, all of them are good. His interactions with Smolder are gold. He is the only character in the mane 8 that has some great interaction with the student 6. 4. Rainbow Dash. Her performance in Non-compete Clause is atrocious but other than that, she is pretty good. She has two great episodes like Granny Gone Wild and Washout which balance between her character strengths and flaws. 5. Twilight. She still has decent appearances besides some glaring issues in Mark for Efforts, Yaki-Sax, Horse Play and Friendship University where she made some questionable decisions. At least Twilight is more productive than her S5, S6. 6 & 7. Fluttershy & Applejack. These two are just not very spectacular this season, they both got their worst episode this season. They are both decent background character. Their greatest performance in S8 are in Sound of Silence too, so they are even. 8. Pinkie Pie. Just let you guys know that I am a Pinkie fan and it really hurts me to place her in the lowest rank. Pinkie is a pretty decent comedic background character whenever she got a screentime and has a great performance in The Mean Six but whenever she got her solo episodes, she become unfunny and annoying. At least The Maud Couple is not that bad, i can defence her in that ep but i cant do the same to Yaki-Sax which is the worst S8 ep. Pinkie in The Mean 6 and School Daze is what i want, why didnt they transfer that Pinkie to her solo episode? The Student Six: 1. Gallus. He has the most development in the group. His backstory can break your heart and he is the most funniest character in the group. 2. Yona. This character started out the least interesting student but she keeps growing on me in her every appearance. Rockhoof and a Hard Place has every reasons that you like about Yona. 3. Ocellus. The cutest student in the group. The reason she is in 4th because she didnt get much development compare to the other. She is fun to watch but has very few things to explore. 4. Silver Stream. She is a Pinkie Pie version 2.0 in the most cutest way as much as possible. Her character development in What Lies Beneath improved her character a lot 5. Smolder. Outside her interactions with Spike, i dont have much things to say about her. 6. Sandbar. He is Applejack of the mane 6, the common guy which is OK, he does his job well.

When Pinkie is a much better character when she was just a background character... That's S8 Pinkie Pie.

Yona has her own tiny army, Fluttershy would be proud. In Equestria, spiders are cute creatures. I cant remember any typical fantasy that feature spiders as likable creature. Plz educate me. Gallus is the best survivor. Silverstream finally overcome her fear. The funny part about it is she only talks big to the image of a dead guy. Her race is saved because of ponies, not their own determination. Chrysalis is just too cool for Ocellus. See Chrysalis sobbing somehow indirectly ruin her character image. If the real Chrysalis sobbing like a little girl, plz someone kill me. Smolder finally embrace her feminism side. Sandbar's oblivious take most of episode duration. At least, that guy stand up to his teachers, it's satisfying me. The nuke weapon of Equestria has developed intelligence?!?!? Twilight should keep this info away from the outsiders, not lecture them like a biology lesson. "hoho, we have the weapon that can neutralize anything and six of us are activation code. You want to know more?!" Sparkling Twilight is sparkling. The elements used Twilight as its avatar to communicate with the Student 6 is super cool. I have nothing to poke fun at this beside Sparkling Twilight with weird face expression, it looks like some higher entities take mortal form to communicate with their kinds. (perfect) And now we got Cozy Glowed. I know one person who still believe Cozy Glow is nothing suspicious at all, even after Friendship University. Can wait for his reaction. Another great episode, 9/10. The combo just wont stop.

The table is just a part of the Tree, and the table is a part of the Castle, which is a part of tree itself. Even Starlight could use the map for her evil plot in Cutie Remark but why the Tree didn't stop it? Maybe because it just let it happen.

Pay attention to every detail in this ep and ignore Spitfire scene (or how Scootaloo forgot LD), this ep just get better everytime you rewatch it. Scootaloo reactions in everything happen in this ep are top-notch.

Whether season 8 is good or not, best or worst, still up to debate (some people still waiting for U.S releases), and we got a forum for that purpose. This is a forum, not a court. That part is a bit tricky to me. Do majority of people actually consider this season is the worst? Many people I know didn't even watch early release. Let wait for the season's end (U.S release) to see people opinions about this season overall. Kinda disagree about it. I cant count the episodes that I really enjoyed this season with my both hands, some of them weren't written by my favorite writers at all. To say this season just have very few good episodes is a bit exaggerating to me. Every mlp season has a certain amount of good episodes that I can say it is a good season overall, it's just the best season has more god-tiers episodes, that's all. Nick Confalone is my love, but to say he's the only good thing about this season is... a bit exaggerating. You can easily find people who didn't like some of his writings. Anyway, it's just my opinion, I just think this season is not as bad as you say.
