  1. I think we need some irredeemable villains. The writers overused the villain redemption trope last season, redeeming Diamond Tiara, Gilda and Starlight Glimmer all in the same season. The first two redemptions made sense, since Gilda and Diamond Tiara were little more than minor antagonists, but Starlight's redemption was really pushing it, considering just how nasty of a villain she was. Then again, Discord (of all people) was redeemed back in Season 3, so maybe I'm just overreacting. That being said, I think the writers should stick to redeeming minor antagonists, while leaving the big bads of the season unredeemed. If it gets to the point where the audience is expecting villains to be redeemed at the end of the episode/season, then what's the point of introducing new villains?
  2. That's very nice! What exactly did you base it on?
  3. I think Derpi started going downhill after they got an influx of users from /mlp/.
  4. Hmph. Considering what you and Jeric have said, I'm wondering if I haven't got a skewed perception of the fandom's opinion on Season 6 because I hang out on Derpibooru all the time? Derpi is definitely more pessimistic about the show's future than this board is.
  5. I think this fandom's a lot healthier than you think. While S3 certainly dealt a blow to the fandom and ended MLP's meme status,* the fandom seems to have remained stable since then. Even the Season 5 finale didn't seem to hurt the fandom too much. *I'd argue that while MLP isn't as big or as visible as it was back in 2011, it's still a major part of internet pop culture.
  6. My favorite episodes so far have been Gauntlet of Fire, The Gift of Maud Pie and On Your Marks. All the other episodes have been sort of 'meh' for me, although I did like Newbie Dash (though not as much as the three aforementioned episodes), strangely enough. I'm hoping things start to look up soon; If not, then I hope the movie is enough to rejuvenate this fandom.
  7. It seems as though every episode that's come out this season has either divided the fandom or has been received poorly. We're seven episodes in and this trend shows no sign of ending. On the other hand, we've got a new showrunner (Josh Haber) and a team of new writers, so maybe it's just taking them a while to get on their feet, so to speak. Still, this recent trend has me worried about the future of the show. Will this community end up falling apart by the end of the season due to a precipitous decline in quality or will things start to look up as we get closer to the finale?
  8. Rainbow Dash was cocky and thought the rules didn't apply to her. The only reason she even got that nickname in the first place is that she decided to cross the runway without looking. There's also the fact she endangered the lives of her teammates and a whole bunch of spectators by performing a reckless stunt without Spitfire's permission. Considering her track record, Rainbow Dash should be thanking her lucky stars she wasn't kicked out of the Wonderbolts.
  9. I liked today's episode. There were certainly moments where I felt for Dash, but it never veered into uncomfortable territory for me. I don't see what all the fuss is about, nor did I see anything wrong with the ending. 8.5/10
  10. Twilight's only a pain in the ass when she's written badly (like she was in this episode); Sheldon is intentionally written as an unlikable character the audience is supposed to root against. Not to mention he's a bad caricature of someone with autism, but let's not get into that, shall we?
  11. Hell yeah! Usually I'll have a bowl of cereal and a glass of milk or something else like chips or crackers.
  12. I think the MLP movie will make a fair amount of money at the box office, but it certainly won't be an animated blockbuster like Pixar or Dreamworks movies are.
  13. I'm in the process of RP-ing with a friend.
  14. I've currently got this Sparta remix stuck in my head.
  15. Man, am I the only one who's got a remotely positive outlook for the future? DAESH will be defeated no later than 2020. Remnants of DAESH will persist for a while longer, but will be unable to regroup and retake territory and will go the way of FARC. Cuba and the U.S. will strengthen their trade and diplomatic relations. Nicolas Maduro will be booted out of office during the next Venezuelan election. Putin will fall from power in Russia as its economy continues to worsen due to the effects of sanctions and depressed oil prices. With Russian support in doubt, Assad will be forced to make peace with the Syrian opposition and a U.N. Transitional government will be established in Syria. The war in the Donbass will end in a Ukrainian victory. Ukraine will be forced to recognize Russian control of the Crimea, but aside from some harsh words, relations between the two states will remain peaceful. Libya will successfully drive DAESH from its territory and finally begin make good on the promise of the Libyan revolution. Tunisia will continue to successfully experiment with Democracy. Kim Jong-Un will be booted out of power in a Chinese-backed coup. Trump will lose the 2016 election in a landslide to a Clinton-Warren ticket. The Republican Party will either start to move towards the center or will go the way of the Whig Party and collapse. Due to health issues, President Clinton will resign after her first term and Vice President Warren will go on to win two terms. Healthcare reform will continue, with the U.S. eventually adopting the Bismarck model in the mid-2020's. China's economy will stagnate, much as Japan's has. India, meanwhile, will take China's place as the world's fastest growing economy. The U.S. will stop unconditionally supporting Israel (it's already started to happen under Obama) and will press for a peaceful solution to the Palestinian conflict through the use of economic sanctions. Saudi Arabia will begin diversifying its economy and will make "token" reforms in order to avoid the fate of Libya, Syria or Yemen. Steps will continue to be taken by the nations of the world to combat climate change. People in this thread will tell me I'm delusional and that I should stop viewing the world through rose-tinted glasses. I don't think Putin's regime will last beyond the next five years or so: it's already showing signs of rot after barely two years of economic sanctions. Likewise, DAESH will not outlast this decade, nor will it take over the Middle East. It doesn't have the resources to do so. North Korea is probably the only issue I agree with you on, but even there, I think Kim Jong-Un will be ousted in a palace coup before he can do anything too stupid.
  16. I think most of Equestria knows Twilight's an Alicorn now.
  17. I heard a theory that Starlight Glimmer is going to die at the end of the season battling Chrysalis. I've got no clue how plausible that is, but I figured I might as well throw it out there. I think it's a longshot, but Glimmer's reformation was also a longshot and we saw what happened there.
  18. I like different aspects of both. There are things I like about the country that you can't get in the city and there are things I like about the city that you can't get in the country. It isn't so much a city-country divide for me as it is a "places I wanna live-places I don't wanna live" divide. I loved living in Rochester, but I absolutely despised living in Tampa. I think it was the heat and the sprawl (as well as the fact Tampa was the first place I've ever lived where I was accused of being an illegal alien) that made Tampa a less enjoyable place for me to live than here or Rochester.
  19. My personal favorite dessert happens to be Flan. It has to be good Flan, mind you - no air bubbles or burnt caramel allowed!
  20. I've been officially diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I'm pretty much a live-action, genderswapped version of Twilight Sparkle.
  21. That's what everyone says on Derpi, too. If anything, Derpi seems a lot more negative than MLP does. Looking back, a lot of people on Derpi expressed their dissatisfaction with Season 5. I guess it's less Derpi and more the circles I hang out with that like S5, then?
  22. -Honestly, it was bound to happen sooner or later. There's only so much you can do with the Mane Six before they start going in circles. Besides, I think it's a good idea for the creative team to have more characters they can work with. -They've been doing those since day one. Maybe not as often, but there have been a variety of pop culture references since the first season. (See Pinkie Pie doing a carbon copy of Bugs Bunny's schtick in Putting Your Hoof Down, for example.) -Again, they've been doing that since day one. The frequency may have been increased, but this is hardly something that came out of nowhere. -I'd agree about the show becoming more mature, but more mundane? Admittedly, it's hard to make a long-running show feel as new or exciting as it was back when it started, but I think S5 and S6 contained a number of memorable episodes. The show is growing up and maturing somewhat, as all shows do over time. To be fair, there do seem to be some teething troubles with Season 6, but this wouldn't be the first time a season started out underwhelming. I think we should wait until the halfway point of the season to draw any conclusions. As for whether or not the show is becoming more like the IDW comics, I'd say "no," simply because the show seems to be maintaining its quality (with a few peaks and valleys here and there), whereas the comics have consistently been getting worse as time goes on.
  23. Argh. I saw that skit a while back. Not one of CollegeHumor's finest, that's for sure.
  24. I'm surprised S5 is such a divisive season. I'd been under the impression that most of the fandom liked it. Then again, I've mostly hung out on Derpibooru until now, so maybe that was just the general consensus on Derpi? Eh, don't mention it.
