Apply to be a moderator!

SCS

Recommended Posts

The big issue with requiring prior experience to get a particular position is that it perpetuates a chicken-and-egg problem. If everyone who can give you experience wants you to already have some, how do you get a foot in the door?

If you have relevant experience, it's certainly good for us to know about - the "other comments" field in the application form is the perfect place to list it - but it's not a "weeding signal" if you don't have it. Even an inexperienced volunteer can be an excellent teammate if they're a cultural fit with an organization.

I never said that you guys only go for people with moderator experiences over new users. I said that you guys are the few if not only forum site I seen that dosent put freinds and past experiences before an opportunity for someone to become a great mod.

We did it back at KCMM and made a new member of the site a Blog Curator. A lot of the other Mods and even on one of the Admins question it, but we had some faith on him and turned him to a member. And he was good. Really good. He was probably one for best people to make blogs to have ever come to the site.

What I was trying to stay was that recruiting new members can make a better impact than someone that has years of experience.

Imagine if you will being on your death bed – And standing around your bed – the ghosts of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life.

And that you for whatever reason, you never acted on those ideas, you never pursued that dream, you never used those talents, we never saw your leadership, you never used your voice, you never wrote that book.

And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying "We came to you, and only you could have given us life! But now. We must die with you FOREVER!

The question is – if you die today, what ideas, what dreams, what abilities, what talents, what gifts, would die with you?

I did. My warn history stops me from being hired.

Trust me,letting some warning to judge your past, present, and future is stupid.

I had a warning on the past, and I still tried to apply. You know why?

Because I don't let that warning to control what will happen to me.

Ok,yeah.You have warn points...

And...?

Just do the Apply, and try to do your best, and, whenever you're choosen or not, you'll feel better than if you didn't tried.

I filled out the application, so we'll see how it goes. In the end, we all want what it best for the forums and I'm sure who ever is picked will be a contributing member to the team that helps keep this place civil.

@@baltoist,

I have a short warning history, but it's still there, and I applied anyway. Do it, man. You might get in, who knows?

One question- you're gonna be looking at my profile and judging it a bit, right? (For professional purposes, right?) I hope my horrible sense of humor and opinionated pony rants don't decrease my chances of moderation...

*sweats nervously* Oh man- oh man- a moderator. A big rank and a big responsibility. I'd love too but I'm so shy and I'm not completely clean with my history here- *eep* but I'm going past that and giving myself a shot though. Maybe I'll be the art section mod, I dunno- anything can happen. Any section you'd put me with would be an honor. I've been active and apart of this community since '12 but I'm still not as super frequent for posting as tons of other members here that are just as senior as I am. I hope this doesn't account for how active I could be.

Ugh- stop it- I can do this!

Um, I could be something smaller for the staff though, if you think modding is too big a thing...

I honestly think this is a good idea, I mean, the old process seemed to work I guess, but with all the members around now a days, to monitor everyone to the level that would be required to figure out if they're worthy of a staff position seems kinda like a lot of time ;p. Especially for people who are basically doing volunteer work.

The way I see it, this just helps narrow down what the other admins (And mods?) have to look at when considering new staff. Which means less work for them in that area, and more work doing completing other tasks. Which means a better forums!

I highly doubt this is going to mean that suddenly everyone who wants to be a mod is a mod or something like some may fear at first, i think this will work out well, maybe i'm just being blindly optimistic(I can be a bit overly optimistic at times just as much as I can be pessimistic.) but I think this is going to turn out great!

As for myself, I think i've already said so before. but I don't think i'd want to be a moderator really, especially since I don't spend as much time on here, and I just don't feel like I'd really want to do it.

So yeah, I'm not really interested myself in applying for anything atleast for now, but regardless this sounds like a welcome change, and I wish luck to all who apply!

Since I was apparently the victim of the previous policy of volunteers not being looked upon favourably for volunteering, I shall pass on this "opportunity", as I don't expect to be chosen in any case.

*shrieks loudly* I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! :o I've actually wanted to find out what it takes to become a mod for a while, to see if I'd be up to the task. (And am I the only one who actually IRL saluted when I clicked the I Accept button?  )

I'm glad to see the forum admins now make a volunteer system :). I've always favored open systems of any sort compared to their closed counterparts. As for me I've applied simply to give back to this site for what it has done to me.

Surprised no one posted a little guide to help people who want to be a Mod, so I'll do that for anyone interested. :squee:

I doubt I'll be chosen.

There's just so many people who would be a better choice. (No, I can't name any, don't ask)

Sorry, Feld0. Can't save you from the ninjas.

Don't worry. We can always back the new mods up!

Plot twist: There are no ninjas; SCS is lying, because they've been brainwashed by the returned Mailmare, who is the real culprit behind Feld0's (second) kidnapping. The ploy to send in moderator applications is a trap, designed to weed out those who's hearts are dedicated to the forums, so that Mailmare may corrupt them as well to do their metallic bidding. Soon an entire army of robot-controlled accounts will rise up and overthrow what little staff and member resistance is left, and the entire forums will once again fall into ceaseless organized chaos under Mailmare's reign, never to return from it.

I mean, good luck everyone! There are times to stick to tradition, and times to try other methods out to see what may work. Past staff's decisions on what worked then do not dictate what will and won't work, now, with the staff's current team. So, here's to hoping this proccess truly does help in the long run.

I can agree with you there. May the person who becomes mod be a great one.

Yeah but...should you try, you really never know. It's not a total waste, just a few questions and things can change.  ^_^
