movies/tv RIP Robin Williams

After Robin made Genie legendary, he and Dan Castellaneta (sort of) took turns doing the voice of Genie. You can tell when Dan is doing Genie because, when Genie gets mad, he sounds just like Homer Simpson.

It was a big mess with Disney, and Robin reportedly wasn't too pleased that Dan kept taking the gig when Robin was trying to take a stand against the House of Mouse.

I'm assuming that's why Robin Williams never guest starred on The Simpsons.

Reading this thread. Man. I though Carlin hit me hard. Being born in the late 70's Robin Williams seemed to always been in my life as that manic crazy goofball. Then came his serious roles in the 90's

Goodbye My Captain.

Play us out Mr. Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
                         But O heart! heart! heart!
                            O the bleeding drops of red,
                               Where on the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
                         Here Captain! dear father!
                            The arm beneath your head!
                               It is some dream that on the deck,
                                 You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
                         Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
                            But I with mournful tread,
                               Walk the deck my Captain lies,
                                  Fallen cold and dead.

The White House has issued this statement from President Obama :

“Robin Willians was an airman, a doctor, a genie a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.”

Rest in peace, I know I will miss you. :(

Heh. I'll never forget all the movies I watched with my dad as a kid - my father was a metalhead, and whenever he liked an actor, he'd do the devil horns with his hand and say something like "he's fuckin' badASS!" :please: Robin Willaims was one of the actors who received the honor of being called badass from my dad.

I remember laying in bed as a child and watching Ms. Doubtfire or Jumanji on the VHS. I watched a lot of Robin Williams movies as a kid - they were funny and age-appropriate but not stupid. Loved it.

It kind of feels like I've lost a part of my childhood now...but this isn't about me.

Rest in Peace, Robin Williams. Rest in Peace.

And the world loses another great great man. His personality could brighten up a room like no other and he will be sorely missed.

I can't seem to find a good YouTube video of the ending of Bicentennial Man, so I'll present the song heard over the end credits, Then You Look at Me performed by Celine Dion

I do have the movie and Aladdin too, so if you'll excuse me...I need to go pay my respects to him. :(

An extremely sad loss of a legend. Everyone loved him I'm pretty sure, a situation that can come with a lot of pressure unfortunately... he just couldn't take it anymore I suppose. The world will surely feel a severe loss of joy and laughter for a while from Robin Williams' sudden passing, he will be dearly missed. :(

I just think to mysefl how lonely it must feel to be someone who everyone loves but still want to take your life.

And knowing that he is free now and sure that he is out there watching the world cry out in pain because he is gone- I wonder if he had known this before he made his choice if he might have chosen differently.

He was an amazing talent, a very special man and very well loved.  I hope he knows that now.

Rest in peace you wonderful man.

I find it sad and unfortunate that Mr. Williams died. I feel sometimes that with all the privileges that people such as he are entitled that they do not suffer as we do but that is not the case. I am glad that he no longer suffers and in a way, can be at some sort of peace. I may think about him from time to time as I have with others that we may have seen so often.

I couldn't believe this when I first heard. But then again, I could... blah :( I've been touched by suicide before. It never feels real, that someone could do that. It's always a shock. I can only imagine what he must have been going through.

Such a huge talent. He brought light into this world by inspiring others and making people smile. He will forever be known as an amazing man.

One of his most inspiring scenes for me: The "Seize the Day" speech, Dead Poets Society.

One of my favorite memories as a kid was getting to have lunch with him. He came to the base that my parents were stationed at to do a show for the troops and their families. The next day I was at the local hang out area called the C.A.C (i dont remember what it stood for but had video games.) and he came in. Saw I was playing link to the past and grabbed me and a few other kids and people and said we are going to lunch. Best lunch ever, got one on one Zelda talk with him and he talked about his daughter who was my age, told us stories and jokes got our pictures taken with him and he custom autographed all of them for each of us. It is one of my most cherished afternoon memories. He was a great Actor, Comedian and Man he will be sorely missed and I hope his family finds peace. R.I.P

Robin Williams was both one of my favorite comedians and one of my favorite people.  Just such an imaginative, quick-witted, brilliant, skilled actor / comedian, and a one-of-a-kind human being.  I can't properly put into words how much this genuinely sucks.
