I use my thoughts. Which normally doesn't help since it takes me an hour normally to fall asleep.

So, I was really thinking about my life recently, reminiscing and whatnot in my old age (of 21), and I can't happen to remember a time where I went to sleep without a fan going. Seriously. Whether it was an AC unit or a normal fan, I have always had a fan in my room. I turned it off the other day and no matter how hard I tried to sleep, I really couldn't, even with ASMR videos going on my computer. So I was wondering if anyone else has this weird dependence on certain noises to fall asleep.

Me too. I have a big giant Honeywell fan right next to the bed for this specific purpose.

(I'm sure some people would have expected it to be a Windchaser fan )

A few years ago I moved into a house on a main road, and the cars going past used to keep me up every night so I started wearing earplugs. Although I live somewhere much quieter now, I still have to sleep in silence because of the years with earplugs... even hearing the person next to me breathing makes me get all  :umad:

A fan definitely helps me sleep at night because I sweat easily and I hate sweating, and become extremely uncomfortable if I'm overly warm in the slightest.

I couldn't sleep well at all last night, and now that I've seen this thread I'm beginning to wonder if I had the fan on or not. Like, if I turned the fan off in the middle of the night because I thought I didn't need it anymore, and then I was unable to sleep....

it is possible that I need a white noise to really fall asleep some nights. Starting to wonder~

I pretty much cannot sleep unless I have some kind of white noise going on in my room, like a fan or something like that. I also have some apps on my tablet that are for white noise, one is a regular white noise generator and another has the sound of rain constantly. :3 I don't know why, I have always been like this. It really relaxes me and helps me. Another strange part is it helps me not feel alone. I tend to feel really lonely at night when I am going to sleep and for some reason, hearing these things really helps.

I sleep with my TV on. I know it's bad, but I just can't stop... it's part of my routine, and for me, routines are extremely hard to break or get rid of. I've slept with my TV on since I was really little too, so that's part of it. I'm just extremely used to it. Like, I'll lay down, watch some TV and bam... out like a light.

And so does this. I used to do this all the time too. On nights when I am really feeling lonely, I will have the TV on. For some reason, again, it makes that loneliness feeling go away a bit.

I generally sleep to my fan on a nice soft setting and my radio on one of my two favorite classic rock stations. The nights have been getting cool and a nice breeze blows through one of my windows brings a joyful sleep.

i live on a busy highway, so the silence is eerie and uncomfortable to me.  I fall asleep to the sound of traffic, or the ceiling fan, or the attic fan going if its really nice out.

i cannot fall asleep with music going.  ive slept over at several friends houses and had to wait until they nodded off so i could unplug the radio.  sometimes when im particularly restless ill listen to a guided meditation though.

I'm more of a person that wants relatively complete silence in order to sleep.  Any sort of noise tends to distract me.  I can fall asleep with outside noise, but I've found it to be significantly more difficult.
