I'll say this for Star Trek, at least our ships have a much more graceful appearance.  no way you could look at the Enterprise and not see the beauty in the design, the nice lines, curves... a greyhound of the stars!  At least the Star Fleet ones, that is...

I love both equally. Star Wars however has the problem of being a story. The circle is complete and we cant go any further with it but apparently Disney is going to try. Star Trek TOS and TNG i love the most.

Best TOS Episodes:

  • The Squire of Gothos
  • The Ultimate Computer
  • Journey to Babel
  • Elaan of Troyus
  • Errand of Mercy
  • Amok Time

I haven't seen Star Wars, and only bits of Star Trek. However, Star Trek has Patrick Stewart, and he's amazing. Star Trek gets my pick!

I better get out of here before I post a very long, paragraph on how star wars is better than star trek

go right ahead!  i'll even engage in a friendly back-and-forth discussion if you want!   :)

I dont get why there are fan wars of these two fandoms, they are two totally different shows, the only similarity is that both have "Star" in the title.

Personally, I like to compare the technology of the two (see my earlier posts with @@DATA EXPUNGED).  But you are right, the two stories are completely different things.

Star Trek for LIFFEE! It came before Star Wars so thats a BONUS! TAKE THAAT- Sorry. I just love, love, love all of the Star Trek TV shows, also, did you know the voice actor who voices Discord played a role in a Star Trek TV Show? OWWWNED! *dance*- Again, sorry. Let just blame it on....

For why Star Wars is surprisingly popular than Star Trek.

Star Wars is like playing Angry Birds, while Star Trek is like doing calculus for fun. Angry Birds is mindless fun, and that's why more people like it. But at the end of the day, do you feel like you have learned anything? Star Trek requires a certain patience and thoughtfulness. Someone could explain the plot of a Star Trek episode and you could have a discussion about it. What do you talk about with Star Wars? "Where can I buy the toys?"

Such ignorance. There exists plenty of thought-provoking material within the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I actually find the core film saga to be the weakest part of the entire lore.

Storylines such as the one featured in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, are just as deep and immersive as any Trek series or film out there. Besides, not everything within the Star Trek universe has been gold, either, and to pretend anything else is to demonstrate willing blindness.

The Star Wars universe is far more vast, engaging, and provocative than most people give it credit for. I attribute this to sheer ignorance.

It's funny, I was a huge Star Wars fan for years, but when I was little I refused to watch Star Wars, because I felt bad for Ponda Baba (the walrus man, for those of you not in the know) when his arm got chopped off. But for many, many years I was a full on fanatic, and I will be going to watch the new one in November.

I saw a couple of the recent Star Trek movies, they're nothing to write home about IMO.

I could never get into Star Trek, I liked one of the more recent movies but Star Trek just dosen't have enough action for me and for me that is a must when it comes to Sci Fi. Star Wars not only has plenty of action but also has a lot of very deep philosophical stuff in it, especially in the expanded universe as well as having great lore and world building which against is especially the case in the expanded universe. I am most fascinated with the Sith, especially the Sith around the ancient Sith like Darth Andendu, Mark Ragnos and Naga Sadow as well as Old Republic Sith like Darth Vitate, Darth Nihilus and of course Darth Bane.

Star Wars. Star Wars any day of the year. I can't believe how obsessed I was with it when I was younger, I mean, I actually liked the prequels  :o (Ok, I joke, I still enjoy them now)

I used to play Star Wars Battlefront all day, collect all the Star Wars lego models, collect figures and watch all of the cartoon series'.

I really, really hope that spark comes back with the new film, I await it with baited breath!

As for Star Trek, never really got into it. I watched the new films and enjoyed them, but can't say I'm that big a fan.

"Personally, I believe a good story is a good story, no matter what universe it's written in." Ann C. Crispin

A good author can write a good story in any franchise, so I agree with that. But consider this point. How much material from the source material is actually used in the expanded universe product? Doesn't the video game take place thousands of years before the main movies? Isn't that just an excuse to slap the Star Wars name on it but writing a totally different story?

Star Trek really isn't a movie series though.  Its a good television series that has spawned a series of movies that are either mediocre or terrible with only a few exceptions.  The TNG movies are notoriously bad.  It seems the film writers were afraid to write actual Star Trek plots for the TNG movies, and instead we got the cast from TNG acting out plots to horribly contrived and executed action movies.

The best Star Trek material includes many of the episodes from TNG and Deep Space Nine, in addition to the much older movies Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country.  The only TNG movie worth your time is First Contact and the new Abrams movies are competently filmed but otherwise unremarkable.

I LOVE Star Wars however I have yet to see anything related that to Star Trek. Perhaps I really ought to put some time into trying to get into Star Trek to see how I like it.

The Prequels aren't god-awful like some say, but Star Trek TOS and TNG blow them away from my point of view.

While the PT >>> the OT, the PT is definitely over-hated (AOTC and ROTS did get better receptions than TPM, after all.).

However, TNG was definitely a far worthier successor to its original.

I would kinda-sorta partially agree with you, except it IS a movie series, just not an amazing one overall.  Also, don't forget Star Trek: Voyager, which is still the best of the shows, in my personal opinion.

And let's remember that Trek is trying to show humanities future, with various social commentary and such.  Wars is just 'Lord of the Rings in Space'.   :derp:

I will have to go with Star Wars on this one, but I do love both franchises.  I grew up with them in the 1990s, unfortunately after First Contact there hasn't been very much good Star Trek except the last few seasons of Deep Space Nine.  Insurrection and Nemesis killed the film series for a while and Voyager and Enterprise failed to reach the heights of The Original Series, The Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine.  While I think the newer films are fun, they aren't what I would consider the best of Star Trek.

Meanwhile, I loved the Special Editions of the original Star Wars films and feel the prequel trilogy is highly underrated by a lot of people.  No, the prequel trilogy doesn't match the heights original trilogy overall, but I feel they are worthwhile editions to the saga.   On top of the the prequel trilogy, we also got two superb shows that only add greatness of the franchise.

In the end, all I can say is a love both Star Wars and Star Trek.  I greatly appreciate Gene Roddenberry, George Lucas, and all those involved who were a part of bringing these franchises to life.
