Have you used the Pony Creator? What do you think of it?

Um, fandom has always made ridiculous OCs, and they're gonna keep on doing it with or without the aid of a dollmaker. Plus, as several people said above, not everyone wants to draw, not everyone wants to learn how, not everyone is inclined toward it; and not everyone is able to pay someone to draw their character for them.

My avatar came from that very same pony maker. It's a fun thing to play with, and he looks great, so.

He is not, however, an OC. He's simply the Best Robot, ponified.

I'll admit, I used the Ponymaker for my OC. Honestly, I didn't like drawing ponies very much, and this was a simple alternative. If people want to use the Ponymaker, I think they should be allowed to. Now, I don't really use my OC for anything, but I did want to try out making a pony.

However, I'll also admit that some Ponymaker OCs are just awful and have way too much slapped on to them.

The only thing I disagree with here is the idea that it's the Pony Makers fault for horrible back stories and OP levels. Those are completely different things. They're details the creator makes up, not the art of it. And one other thing, even if the Pony Maker was gone, people could still make their OCs look just as crazy and ridiculous. So really the only thing the Pony Maker does is give people the ability to simply slap one together fast and easy. It's plenty possible to make your own hand drawn OC with a ton of accessories and such. Now, people may not always think of some of the different options that are on the maker quite as easily, but regardless you could still draw it the exact same. So the maker is more convenient, than it is the problem for the way all the OCs look. (I'll give you that the structures of the bodies don't look great. I mean, I think they look perfectly fine, but what you said is a valid point for having reason to say they don't look good. The actual structure of the character isn't something someone can copy exactly should it have never existed, so there's that, but otherwise what's been said isn't entirely true) :)

Pony maker is fine.

My OC's were made in pony maker, every single one of them originated from that. I only got commissions because TartarusProductions did my Ponysona and BassClef made my Neghlie Goulding one for vector practice.

It's the assholes who make disgusting OC's with the pony maker. People just need to learn basic design rules and for the love of fucking christ, when they export it and put it as their avatar... LEARN TO FUCKING CROP A PHOTO.

Back when the pony creator first came out, it was a big deal. You could whip out a pony of your liking lickity split. Yes it's limited. Yes it's outdated. but it's a part of the fandom and still has it's uses. My avatar is clearly made from that creator. but I choose to use it instead of draw my own, since you can display an image like you would on an I.D.. Not everyone has been in the fandom long enough to know how to draw ponies so it's a great place to start. Not everyone is an artist, and not everyone has the time to learn. All things aside, yeah there's some pretty shitty ones out there

Okay, there's something i just wanna get off my back. It's Generalzoi's pony maker. Oh my god, does this thing pump out ocs! You can't be a brony and have not seen at least thirty of these unoriginal, overpowered ocs. This "art" creator, makes it so easy to make crappy ocs at the blink of an eye. The worst thing, however, is that even if you suck at drawing, it still has more pride than using it. I assume some people use it because they're intimidated to draw, because some people like to hit below the belt and insult them about their work. But honestly, must you take it that seriously to turn to that? The Pony Maker has turned to sin. Just stick it out and draw one! It's obvious that you used it whenever it's posted online. The only acceptable use for this is requesting a commission, because someone else is going to draw it for you. Really guys, you cant use paper and look up a guide online? If you think you suck, you don't. You just aren't finding the guide you're looking for you make the pony body image just click in your mind. I used to think I was bad, so I used the pony maker. You just have to make yourself believe your art is good! The only problem is that you may rub it in people's faces and when they're better than you, you'll get all butthurt, but that's not such a continental issue compared to this oc making monster. They're so poorly constructed; they look like they have scoliosis, it's so bad. But nooooooooOOOOOOooooo. You guys just have to keep going back to that stupid flash game, so you can pump out your crappy oc. NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE "King of darkness that's Celestia's son and revived assassin who lives in the future." Yes, that's a REAL OC. And guess what? Nobody cares; that's why people parody you, ya big dumb. It's so ridiculous, it'd be silly NOT to parody it. So, in conclusion, don't use the pony maker. Thankssss

Hey. Looks like your post is a good fit for an earlier thread, as it concerns opinions on the pony creator. Also, threads dealing with such topics should go in Creative Resources. Thanks for understanding!

I will admit: it's much less time consuming then what I use now, which is pony bases on MS Paint. While I admit I can see why people say that the Pony Creator is the easy way out, I don't create insane looking ponies. I'd rather make a normal looking pony that just doesn't take two hours because me being who I am needs to fill in every pixel. I also suck on hairstyles (I have dysgraphia so the steadiness of my hand is bad) so either I have to find a base with a hairstyle or I give it a really wierd looking style.

Finally, it's less hurtful when people on Facebook try to steal my ponies if I made it with the Pony Creator.

I used the pony creator to come up with my profile picture, I also use it to come up with character concepts. all I can draw are stick figures, and that's not very useful when it comes to designing characters.

I've seen amazing things done with the pony creator as a base, I've done stuff with it for my oc who obviously isn't a choice on pony creator. An really who hasn't used it at least once for their oc.

Yeah, I've visited General Zoi's Pony Creator and to be honest, it's....okay....if you want to use it as a base or as a reference or if you don't have the resources to vector ponies, but personally I like to vector ponies from scratch using Illustator or Photoshop. One of the reasons being is because the colors from the vectors are more true and vivid. But before I vector ponies, I like to gather lots of references first so I know what I'm doing. Or, if I already know how I want it to look, then I don't need a reference. At least when I vector ponies, I can say "Hey, I made this in Illustrator (or Photoshop) and I feel proud to have made it using pure vectors." And it's something that I could actually upload to deviantart. Of course, I think you could upload something you made from the Pony Creator, but again, that's just playing around with a game and something you didn't make with pure vectors.  I think vectoring ponies

(if you just wanna upload a still pony to deviantart)

is not hard, but it does take some time, dedication, and effort.

But overall, yeah, it's an alright tool. Also, read this: http://silvervectors.deviantart.com/art/Why-Not-to-Vector-from-the-Pony-Creator-351336918

Edit: I made this post when I was kinda an asshole and thought vectoring was better. I now recognize that a lot of people actually use the pony creator, especially when they don't have the time to vector ponies or pony avatars.

Hell, I even spent lots of hours just vectoring ponies. I know there are people out there that actually know how to use Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, ect. and do artwork and they do it a lot faster, but maybe that's because they know how to use it and have lots of experience with it. I even had one girl on Skype try to teach me how to make a simple pony walkcycle. I am pretty sure it was 24 frames. And even that was hard, well not so hard because a lot of what I needed to do was already done. I just needed to use Keyframe Caddy and Onion Skinning to see what I was doing and see if everything matched up correctly and looped correctly. The hardest part was animating the tail. As I was doing it and playing back the animation every time, everything looked kind of crooked, so I had to keep correcting it AND I had to make sure that it looped correctly, so yeah that was hard. After doing all this, I would say at this point that animation is not for me, let alone puppet rigging. Just seems too time consuming.

Hey, I frickin used it for my own avatar. But apparently, I'm the only one around here with the decent sense to pose him and crop around the face, so it doesn't look stupid.

I did that as well. I didn't want it to look generic, so I gave it my own touch.

I like pony creator v1, v3 sucks cuz of the lack of GOOD and the ORIGINAL MANES and TAILS. I don't always use Pony creator in general unless I am doing something OC related which is like I said, not all the time.

For those of us who are artistically and/or technologically challenged, it's a nice option, as it's pretty much the best pony creator you can find that doesn't involve complicated computer art stuff. It's also good for people who want a custom pony but don't want to take the time to create one from scratch because at least for the time they aren't as invested in the fandom/the OC/whatever, and I would imagine that it's useful for trying out basic designs and color schemes prior to actually putting in all the effort to create a pony OC.

Basically, it's very good for what it is, but of course it won't compare to actually drawing something, nor is it meant to.

@, Hiya! Just giving you a heads up that we already had a thread for opinions regarding the Pony Creator, so I went ahead and merged your topic with this one. If you could, try to run a search before making a thread that might already exist. Thanks! :)
