Morals gone?

I've noticed that in recent episodes morals seemed to be gone and that the writers are just reiterating "be nice to people", they also seemed to be just giving general life advice as well. Do you think this is true? If so do you like or dislike the change? Do you think there are more morals they could have done?

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

I think it could be because they are broadening the scale a bit with new locations, with the whole 'spreading friendship' thing, which I think is a good idea. Not every episode has a moral and I don't think they always need them, but I have noticed this trend as of late. I will say that Bloom and Gloom had one of my favorite morals in the show so far.

Overall, I don't mind the lack of them. The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone for example had a reiteration of the theme of just friendship and I still very much enjoyed it.

The morals are still being done though, just not as blatantly obvious I suppose.

The Cutie Map -- Embrace what makes you unique and special

Castle Sweet Castle -- Treasure your memories, because that's what makes you feel at home

Bloom and Gloom -- Have faith in who you are, and others will accept who you are as well

Tanks for the Memories -- If you truly love someone, you must know when to let them go

Appleoosa's Most Wanted -- A change in perspective can turn a weakness into a strength

Make New Friends but Keep Discord -- People can have more than one circle of friends without forsaking any of them

The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone -- Friendship can build more lasting bonds in a community than symbolism can

No, it seems like a good variety of morals to me.

This.

The morals are all still there, they just aren't being spelled out obviously with a letter or journal entry anymore.

I think the morals are there, they're just not outright stated to us like in the friendship reports or the journal entries. I see a return to that in the future, but only sporadically.

The letters to Celistia, and journal entries took up time that is now being used for a couple extra minutes of story telling. I think we may see a return to journal entries when they come up short on an episode, and need to fill a couple minutes. As I pointed out on another thread, Spike is still holding the Journal of Friendship in the opening, so I think that it still exists.

Indeed. I imagine they'll keep adding to it, just more off-screen. I think they'll keep it up and reference to it in the future, especially given how useful it was in Twilight's Kingdom.

Personally, I liked the "Ending Moral" theme in the story, if done well. It was better than other older cartoons such as (if anyone remembers or has seen videos of) those hilariously bad GI Joe PSAs way back when - oh, pork chop sandwiches. There should be a pony (preferably Derpy's relative) named Porkchop Sandwiches.

The JoF idea, with the letters to Celestia at the end, was excellent. I hope it comes back as a major theme, if for no other reason than it is a great concept for younger fans.

Well, there may be a lot of morals, but the list is pretty limited. So of course, I can see why each episodes theme every now and again has the same theme. I see nothing wrong with sharing the same morals, because sometimes the audience needs a reminder. Also, each episode DOES have a different perspective to each moral they teach in various situations, repetitive or not. :)

Elementary, but MLP's morals are still there. Just shared in a different light.

@@Time Shield said it best. Each episode has a moral, but they're not as spelled out as the previous four seasons. Instead, they're more woven into the story, making them more ambiguous than before.

the morals are still there, but they are less subtle, you have to pay attention to whats going on in the story in order to see them and understand it, its not blatantly spelled out for you at the end

I agree with most people in the sense that the morals are still there.

However, while there are tons of morals out there that they could put in the show, the list is still limited. And it seems like after four and a half seasons, they have crossed an awful lot of the list. And still, they probably haven't made it past the halfway point as far as that "list" goes, but it is hard to come up with new ones at this point.

Bloom and Gloom -- Have faith in who you are, and others will accept who you are as well

That one is more of a grey area, if who you are is a threat to the Equestrian Kingdom or someone who wants to live alone as Pinkie Pie won't accept.

I think they accepted who Tirek was.  And in accepting it, they knew he had to be stopped.  So it still applies.

And anyway, there are always exceptions to the rule, Cranky being one of them.
