What kind of government rules Equestria?

I realize the terms "Princess Celestia" and "Princess Luna" implies a monarchy, but I have a feeling that it goes beyond that. Using the political spectrum, I would like you guys to identify what kind of government Equestria follows.

I always assumed that they were based on a constitutional monarchy kind of system, at least that's what the show seems to imply at times. Could be wrong about that however.

I just started watching the first season so I wouldnt know, but I'm thinking a monarch of sorts but I'm not quite sure. It could be as you say, a constitutional monarchy but then again I could be wrong. xD

I think its more of an City-state government, as well as a monarchy. Seeing as Cloudsdale can only be reached my Pegasus/Alicorn/ unicorns(who know the correct spells)/Hot air balloon, they could pretty much constitute what ever laws they want to ban interaction with earth cities. And all other cities seem to be so far out from each other in distance, but i'm not one for government so my ideas may be way far off. :P

Tyrannical Monarchy. This form of government would normally be corrupted quickly, but the massive lifespans of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna have led to a stable and flourishing government. As long as Prince Blueblood is last in line for the throne I am happy. Social contract is respected in full. Government is VERY liberal and has a capitalist economic system. I do think that the economy is slightly corrupt, but businessmen tend to be the most foul and vile creatures.

No, no you would not. The Soviet Party had way too much power, and created an oligarchy. Gorbechev's reforms were the best thing that ever happened to Russia.

Socialism can be a good form of government, but it is not for the USA. Equestria being a market economy is cannon.

Oligarchy with sub-representatives. It most likely follows feudalism though, since you have Luna and Celestia on top, and other rulers like Mayor Mare. Even though monarchies may not look appealing, they sure do work in Equestria!

In truth, I've always thought of Equestria as something of a constitutional monarchy, to a certain extent. For example, there probably is a much smaller equivalent to the House of Parliament, one without nearly as much veto power over Princesses Celestia and Luna. How much power the Sisters actually have, it's hard to say, but I suspect they hold more power than a modern day king in our world would simply due to their ageless nature.

Beyond that I honestly haven't given it too much thought. The way I see it, the government works fairly well, and Princess Celestia is beloved, so I don't think there's much to say about Equestrian politics. Besides, I feel disgusted enough watching our own real world politics as it is...I feel no need to sully myself with dirty political shenanigans in Equestria.

Probably a monarchy with some form of constitution allowing for varying regional oversight. There is most certainly local governance and self-determination for the different cities and regions of Equestria. The Romans were quite fond of permitting local administrators to run their own territories so long as they paid tribute to the guys in charge (i.e., Rome). While the Romans were also quite fond of decimating local populations and taxing them into the ground, it seems as if Princess Celestia and, to a lesser extent in terms of authority exercised, Princess Luna are benevolent monarchs who only intercede in local affairs when called upon. Perhaps they serve as arbiters in intraregional and interregional disputes and cases; that seems quite likely, all things considered.

The buck must still stop with Princess Celestia, though, as most ponies and administrators regularly appear to yield to her authoirty. Her subjects don't seem to have the power to challenge Celestia, per se, though she has given them no reason to undermine her rule. Plus, she keeps the peace and maintains the overall order of Equestria.

Celestia cares for her subjects not because she desires more power but because she is truly concerned for their wellbeing. In turn, her subjects are more than willing to let her reign as the head monarch.

i understand it enough to say id prefer the USASR over what the USA is now >.>

Trust me, you really really Really don't.

Also: My best guess is that Celestian & Luna mostly let things run their course and only intervene when neccessary.
