Season 5 has CLEARLY been poorly planned out

You might not choose to be impatient but please don't be self-deprecating. I know people with self image problems can't just magically be confident and comfortable with themselves, but when you start beating yourself up people will tend to be less sympathetic towards you.

I'm sorry for being a jerk. :(

Princess Twilight Sparkle always do legendary stuff with magic in Equestria. Time to blast from the past.

The only major thing out of this that I agree with is the random hiatus of pure randomness that was announced. I don't really mind it as we are gonna see a hiatus either way between seasons and perhaps that could make that one seem much shorter. The other stuff, I am not sure. The random scheduling that you mention isn't exactly new to this show. I remember during season 3 and 4 there were some episodes that had at least a week or two between the last one. It's felt rather normal to me with this season too. I've had no complaints, even the hiatus doesn't bother me. Aren't a lot of different shows doing that now?

Any of these potential issues, I would most likely put it on Discovery Family. They definitely haven't shown the enthusiasm that FiM deserves.

Don't sweat it, just don't let your love for a show, or any show, hold you down.

If they're going to take so much time off like that they could at least make the episodes good.

Season 5 is the worst season so far.

Season 5 is already done and finished with. They wouldn't be able to go back and redo any potentially poor episodes. Most likely this has do with the upcoming EQG movie.

I agree with you on that, let's get EQG 3 out.  This is nothing more than intermission.

Eh, it doesn't change the season itself and how good it is. It doesn't really matter, what is annoying is the wait but they can't do anything about it.

Imagine 1 episode aired every week, in that case the wait between seasons 5 and 6 would become much longer.

Sup everyone? Just wanted to remind you all to keep everything on topic. A number of posts have started to drift away from the topic at hand which can lead to the derailing of the thread. Please keep this in mind as you continue the discussion.

I think discovery might have caused this, my theory is that it's to push their other shows (which look $*!^ might I add), I don't think it will lead to the end of FIM but may cause it to move channel.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

The season split is not even an issue. The lack of transparency and episode scheduling that went all over the place is. It looks like either poor management, or lack of care for the consumer, and I’m saying “looks like” cause I can’t possibly know what’s really going on upstairs. It could be anything from lack of PR experience/awareness (aka Valve’s Diretide incident,), all the way to corporate shenanigans of entertainment industry behemoths (we lie to you cause we think you’re crap, but buy our broken junk anyway).

To me, it looks like H-Bro pulled a Diretide which also started with a tweet. Although, I have confidence that this community isn’t as (insert negative buzzword) as Dota community, so there will be no _ Give PONY clogging up the internet in the following days. We can try and have a little faith in H-Bro. They gave us the 100th episode, so they are trying to care, right? Just make sure you don’t have too much faith. There were other fandoms who whiteknighted themselves into a coffin. The consumer is and always will be the last quality check, so be patient, but don’t let them slip yeast extract into your soup either.

You know what they say "patience is a virtue". Having patience through a short hiatus will bring great reward.

Look at how much everyone liked a lot of the new episodes that were aired already after waiting how long from season four to five.

I'm sure everything will be fine when the season resumes.

Part of me wonders if Discovery Family  and Hasbro might being trouble in contracts/marketing and show time slots and etc?

I think we should stop complaining and just enjoy the show  ;)

My thoughts indeed, but I'm also quite disappointed with some of the episodes (That's another topic).  I just need my pony fix, alright? I'll just enjoy it. Certainly, there are crappy episodes here and there but I will just look at the moral lesson out of it. Yeah, I'm a 90s kid :D

Hey Disney, why don't you buy out Hasbro already? Oh wait, that maybe a bad idea.

I don't think Discovery cares too much about the show.

I have a theory

Seems like they do this on purpose to lower their own view rating with ponies. For them, this is the only form of getting money out of this cartoon because they don't sell toys. However WHAT IF Matel was paying them a percent of their merchandise for doing a sabotage of MLP franchise? Discover would earn money, Matel's Monster High would beat the pony franchise and Hasbro would take a good hit right into their most successful toyline. Think about it. The HUB was the main source of commercials for Hasbro. Discover bought it and made sure to get mlp as well. AND THEN they treat the series as some shitty Winx Club cartoon with little to no previews, with breaks between episodes and with a teaser that promoted episode "Cutie Map" for like 10 weeks as "new episode"

This is a valid theory unfortunately since I saw Disney lower it's ratings for Lilo & Stitch The Series by airing it at a time when no child could watch it than yanked the show off the air. :( Another possibility is that Discovery is handling MLP the same way they handle reruns, and mid season finales for Alaskan Bush People which is a huge mess but doesn't mean they hate the shows.

In all honesty though I think the hiatus is just a brony rumor since I have found no official source and if there is/was a hiatus why would M.A Larson be allowed to update his list

The crew can't give spoilers unless the air date is soon. I know the episode numbers are wrong but he may be referring to production number here.

Eh, it does seem kinda sloppy, but sometimes this stuff can't be helped. Maybe Discovery has some of its own programming that they want to dish out to make the week or so hiatuses. But this "mid-season-finale-esque" upcoming hiatus is totally Hasbro. They want to generate hype. It's not a new dynamic, shows have been doing this for years. Besides, this hiatus is nothing. I watch The Walking Dead, I know how to handle overly-long hype hiatuses. But I imagine Hasbro is doing this to build up hype for the new EQD movie, which if memory serves is coming out at the end of September.

When season 4 ended, there was initially little doubt that season 5 would begin in the fall. Hasbro themselves even implied that it would begin in the fall.

No they didn't. They explicitly put out an image that said season 5 would start in 2015, not the fall of 2014.

BBo7bUP.png

Case in point, Slice of Life. It was originally set to air on May 30th, and then out of nowhere, it was delayed for two weeks to June 13th.

First official word we got on the air date said it would be airing on June 13th.

https://instagram.com/p/1Kazj5D-RB/

This was April 7th, weeks before we got any Zap2It synopsis. I don't recall anyone saying it was going to air on May 30th before then.

And now, of course, there's this. Out of nowhere, just days before the airing of the 13th episode of the season, we now hear that the season will be split in half. This reeks of yet another decision that was made at the last minute. We should have known about this weeks ago, and had this happened with season 4, we most likely would have.

I've followed a lot of shows that have had mid-season hiatuses, and they have never made any announcement weeks in advance that there wouldn't be any new episodes for a while. They usually only say something right before or after the show has gone on hiatus. The only sign I would usually get of an upcoming hiatus is looking up future episodes myself and seeing nothing's coming in the following weeks.

Wouldn't all the episodes have been completed some time prior to the airing of the premiere?

This season has indeed been planned out very poorly.

No they aren't. Work on a season's episodes can still be going on until the middle of the season, like I remember season 4's finale was still being worked on at the start of 2014.
