What Games do you Never Intend on Playing?

Nit Pick

Recommended Posts

There shouldn't be a thread like this already. I checked on Google.

This is pretty much a spin off of my previous post but with games. It pretty much says it in the title. What over hyped games do you never plan on/never had an interest in playing? (if Undertale is one of 'em, that's fine. We all have our favorites. :D)

For me, it's whatever future games by "That Pachinko Company" will dish out after Kojima's departure.

Now that all of their top guys are gone from the company and they've pretty much decided to say "screw it" and shit the bed, I don't plan on picking up any future games from Konami, of course unless they have another Platinum developed "Metal Gear Rising 2" though that's more out of loyalty towards Platinum

Also while I've heard the sequels are improvements, I don't think I'll be trying the rest of the FFXIII series any time soon

I never intend on playing Destiny ever again. I got the game on sale last year, played it for a decent while, realized that the game is garbage and I have not touched it since. Never again Activision and Bungie. Of course if I did want to play it again, I would have to pay $40 more anyways or else I will have like a quarter of a game. Awesome.

I also never plan on buying Music Games.

Call of Duty, Halo, Gears of War (it's already crashed and burned anyway), probably anything on 8th gen consoles (other than maybe Wii U because of Smash 4 primarily, but others too), Final Fantasy games after 12, and Grand Theft Auto.

Hmm, any military shooter. I've given CoD a shot and it's just garbage.

Though if I may suggest a good shooter, and you have a PS2, Black is a really good military shooter, it doesn't have the arcadey gameplay of CoD and actually requires skill. Controls might take a bit to get used to, though, there's no option to change the sensitivity.

Battlefield is no better. Anything obvious like Superman or whatnot. I have had the displeasure of playing Sonic 06 all the way through.

Also, any sports games made by EA.

@@Kyoshi, I know how you feel, I got that game day one and it was fun for a few hours, then I realized I was doing the same crap over and over with each mission. The new expansion isn't be enough to convince me though.

But I guess that's to be expected when you work with Activision. *Cough*Blizzard*Cough*

Here are a few that a lot of people considered horrible, that I don't plan on playing anytime soon:

  • Sonic Boom
  • Sonic 06
  • Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark
  • The G3 MLP Nintendo DS game
  • Spiderman 2

Pretty much anything centered around graphic violence. Most certainly anything centered around zombies/zombie-like beings.

I feel that saying you will "never" consider a game or a genre/style of game is being incredibly close minded and comes from a place of fear that you may actually like it. Thus I never say I will "never" play a game, however there are definitely games that after playing I will not play again due to poor quality. In this world we have a lot of people that will close themselves off to certain ideas because they don't even want to humor them a lot of the time for misguided reasoning. When I was a kid, I used to have a friend who insisted all First Person Shooters were identical, but when I pointed out how Pokemon is the same game every year, he got furious and defensive.

A lot of the concepts people will downtalk they do not even realize they are already engaged in but are not wise to it. I have seen people criticize something that other games do, but when their games that they like do it, they will defend it for ludicrous reasoning. Even some of the worst games out there have some novel moments to admire. Duke Nukem Forever was utter trash, but it still gave you at least 30 seconds of a chuckle at some parts, despite the poor controls, terrible graphics and awful storyline.

This mentality seems exceptionally prominent (and excuse me for pointing the finger at them yet again, and this is not directed at any specific person here) Nintendo fans. I was a Nintendo fan for a long time, but I grew to where I could appreciate all platforms. Nintendo fans seem adamant on the idea that Nintendo innovates and their success with the DS and the Wii "prove" that people don't want mature titles, and that everyone else is just "pumping out the same stuff" and that Nintendo is the "only one that cares about fun". However all of these arguments are bogus and can easily be debunked by pointing out a few facts:

  • The Wii's success had to do with the casual market which moved onto smartphones. The fact the Wii U is not selling is sort of evidence to that.
  • Nintendo's Pokemon franchise is literally the same game rehashed every other year. So much so that they remake a game every 2-3 years. Not even Call of Duty remakes Call of Duty every 2-3 years. Modern Warfare which was considered one of the best in the series has still not been remade or remastered. Not to mention Pokemon even recycles the same general storyline.
  • Nintendo's concepts are not always original. Smash Bros. has been done before, long before Nintendo did it too, it's just that Nintendo was the first to make it "successful". Other companies have done cross over fighting games before.
  • The DS's success has to do with the alternative targeted a different audience for handhelds. The PSP and the PSVita target an audience that wasn't there for very long. Handheld gaming is generally a very casual market in general.
  • Mario gets dozens of sequels to every spin off game he is in. How many more Mario Karts can we get before people realize it's the same game with new stuff thrown in? Just like... Say... Call of Duty?
  • Nintendo not wanting the hardcore audience is also untrue. The Wii U's original intent was to bring the hardcore audience back, that's why it opened with Mass Effect 3, Arkham City, Bayonetta 2, Call of Duty, and Watch_Dogs. Nintendo wanted to get the hardcore audience back and failed miserably. The fact remains that the hardcore audience are who buys consoles. The success of the PS4 and the Xbox One are evidence of that. Hell before the Wii, the PS2 was the best selling console of all time. The PS1 was the best selling console of all time before that, completely destroying the N64 numbers. People need to realize the Wii was a fluke at best, and not indicative to what truly moves consoles.

The fact is that die hard Nintendo fans are often in denial of what the market wants, and I think that saying they will never do or play anything that the competitors offer is just another way of staying in denial that the market has always been this way and that people want more mature titles. I mean hell the average age of a gamer today is 30-35. Don't believe me? Look it up. The truth is that hardcore gamers make up the market for consoles and PC. That's just something that people will need to accept.

I say never close yourself off to a type of game or concept! Give something a try if you get the chance. You may be surprised, and there is no shame in any of it. Games are games. They're not real and have no bearing on you as a person, so enjoy all the games!

That can work in some genres, but not all. It is most certainly possible to close ones self off of playing a game. I can tell you this, would you ever find interest in studying for a game, reading a 200 page plus manual, using mathematics, and then spending hundreds of hours mastering complex simulation? There are most certainly people who do enjoy such, but someone can close themselves off to a genre easily if it is so far removed from the average game.

I never said it wasn't possible, just that it's closed minded. I personally would at least try and get through the manual and such. If I couldn't, then I can at least say I tried. :P

I just wouldn't get to it before playing other games that I am more likely to enjoy is all, but I definitely wouldn't go "No I'll never give this a try, ever."

Fair enough, I can understand that. I usually try most games myself, but I have little interest in statistics or sports(Which I have tried to get into, though soccer is maybe the only exception). I was just meaning that interest level can be close to nil if not nil in certain genres.

Don't assume that everyone else who doesn't want to play these styles of games has any such reason as "they're all identical". I don't play the types of games I mentioned in my post above ("Pretty much anything centered around graphic violence. Most certainly anything centered around zombies/zombie-like beings."). I don't play those types of games because they make me physically uncomfortable. I've never watched my friends play these games and came home without feeling sick.

"I've never"

Then how are you so certain you'll hate them all? XD

Most likely horror games, YouTuber baits/"wacky meme" games (like Goat Simulator), MMOs, most racing games, most sim games, most sports games, and so on. Now I might give one of these games a shot someday, but I highly doubt I'll get into 'em, just not my type of thing. :P

I'm not too keen on getting into the Legend of Zelda series, is old and is something I got to as a young kid like a lot of people so I don't have a crazy for it.

Speaking of that, probably most nintendo games, and Playstation exclusives. I won't name Xbox because I want to get an Xbox One.
