What if you discovered a lost civilization underneath your home

It would be pretty awesome. I've always loved history and archaeology. Growing up, Indiana Jones was (and still is) one of my idols. For any archaeologist, historian, or anyone as fascinated with the subject as me, finding an unknown ancient civilization would be a dream come true. It's what people become archaeologists and historians for. Having it conveniently under your own home is just icing on the cake (but you may need to find a new place to live because your home would become a dig site).

If i did, I'd plunder the heck out of it and make off with a huge haul on the black market before the government has a chance to put their grubby paws on it.

My man. I would do the same. First I would try and figure out what civilization it was by researching on it on the internet and talking with various historians. Then I would try and uncover the important stuff and sell them to the highest bidders on the black market. Selling all the cheap unimportant things will not only not make a profit but can still set off alarm bells on people that recognize them and try and ransack my historical civilization. I would be the greatest pawn star.

You and I think alike; I've loved Indiana Jones and Nathan Drake for so long, and it's due to my inherent love for history and archeology. To find such a thing under my home would bring so many tears. <3

It belongs in a museum! I would call in the professionals to deal with it as I wouldn't want to damage any artifacts. I'd probably go to my local historical society first though and see if I can get any information or records about what I've found. Or heck, maybe I'd just bring those guys to the site and they could handle it from there.

I would let them remain a secrecy and then have one stay with me as a friend to hang out with :P

Probably "enlist them as a workforce" and then profit off of it(if they really were lost then I'm assuming they haven't seen guns before and a few hundred guys with some good guns could do the trick) and don't put it down on the books so it's not taxable income. I would save some of the money to keep them a secret and most to pay my mercenaries.

I would investigate a bit on my own before announcing my discovery. But I wouldn't hoard the treasure and sell it all off on the black market. I would just want to preserve everything.

I'd probably be a little frightened at first to say at least. As I wouldn't be sure what else to do either, I could just go investigate a little and then let it be until I've come up with something else.

I would begin by carefully photographing it and documenting it as well as I could with my limited knowledge of archaeology. Then I would seek professional archaeologists to do the real in-depth stuff and dig down deep. I would not notify government officials in any way until or unless everything was already exhumed and cataloged and couldn't be taken away, covered-up and buried in some warehouse someplace. History belongs to everybody so as much as I would appreciate a nice monetary haul, I couldn't plunder it for my own gain.

This does not mean I wouldn't accept a finder's fee or small stipend for sharing it with any for-profit organizations. :orly: Even Indiana Jones took a little fee from Marcus Brody here and there.

You know what's ironic about this post is that I watched Rise of The Planet Of The Apes yesterday with my family (great movie btw)

Depends, if it's ruins then I'd call in the archeology teams and shit because history is my jam, but I'm not an archaeologist, I'm the book reader type of historian that likes to explain why and not what.

If there was an underground civilisation that is still functioning I would call in the historians and anthropologists to study the shit out of them.

Maybe if I get enough money out of some of the artifacts I would hire an archaeologist who has the tools for delicate work on uncovering brittle and fragile objects while retaining their authenticity. He would be required to stay in that civilization, I would give him some form of housing, send food and water down. Part of the payment would give the difficulty of him not leaving the area because I don't want him going out and spreading news about it that would send all sorts of big shots and Feds down at my property.

It's going to depend on what kind of civilization they are. If they are cannibalistic head hunters, then I'm locking that right back up as quick as I can. If the city remains without the civilization, then I have the ultimate doomsday bunker (Bring it on future pres!). If they are a friendly civilization, with want to learn the world they missed out on, then probably still the same as the second scenario, lol. I'd make sure they know there's nothing to learn, except for MLP and call it good.

Honestly, I would leave them be. It's the same thing if I found a should-be-extinct animal. We've done enough damage already so might as well protect this civilization from the deadly clutches of the public.

If that civilization is a ruin, I would take some time to explore and record about it, share its details to the Internet, and let archaeologists to explore and document it.

If that civilization still has people, I would sneak around for some pictures, or talk to someone from that civilization. I would also inform the archaeologists, if not the neighbourhood, but tell them to be careful when approaching the civilization.

I would presume I'm crazy for connecting the dots in such a manner or hallucinating and they aren't even there at all. I would have to invite others, then also ask how the heck did reality not pick up on them being there, there is sewage systems and everything it makes literally no sense, unless there was a massive conspiracy in which case we might be going to get assassinated sometime in the future or bribed to be quiet. Idk. It'd be interesting but somewhat inconveniencing unless it makes me more social which could be good for me. People might buy the land or force it into protection.
