gaming Obviously awesome video game ideas that haven't happened yet

Sometimes, gaming companies come up with awesome ideas. They take those ideas, make them into a product and everyone is happy. Other times, it is the gamers that come up with really awesome ideas that the gaming companies apparently haven't thought of, or if they did, they haven't touched the idea at all for whatever reason, despite the fact that these ideas seem like they would be obvious winners.

Let's discuss those. What are some obviously awesome video game ideas that haven't happened yet for unknown reasons?

I have a good one. a fully 3D Pokemon console game. Nintendo, money, you want money, you get money if you do this. Sure, the handheld games are making more than enough money, but we have not yet seen a fully 3D console Pokemon adventure game.

Another one? A Pokemon console MMO.

A Megas XLR game. Shit writes itself. Unfortunately because of its...current status, it will probably never happen.

Transformers Devastation is probably the closest I'll ever get to this

What I'd really like to see is a game where you play as a fantasy monster, like a hydra, chimera, manticore, dragon, etc. And you do the typical things monsters do like eat livestock, burn down villages, imprison maidens and all that fun stuff. Except you actually have a good reason for it and all the knights that come and try to slay you are corrupt or speciest, wanting to kill you just to enhance their own status.

Technically, they do have two Pokémon console games that replicate the handheld games, but they go in their own direction that ultimately didn't go over very well among fans. I think it's high-time Nintendo made a full-fledged console Pokémon game although it would most likely be a major headache given how many of them there are, and animating all of them in full 3D would take an incredible amount of time and patience.

On a different note, I want to see a Best Of Mario Party, a game where they take boards, mini-games, and gameplay elements from each game in the series and combine them together to form a new game. They can also make improvements to enrich the experience.

Well I was expecting something more like 4th-6th gen pokemon adventure game (other than pokepark of course). Probably More like 4th-6th gen pokemon colosseum and XD: Gale of darkness version to get more additional pokemon and transfer only moves in a different region although it didn't happen at all.

As far as LoZ games go, I'd like to see an LoZ games that involves Linkle being the main character instead of Link

I don't have any ideas right now, since I am currently more into retro gaming. But I did want to drop a nice "YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS" to this, since ever since Gen 1 was a thing I have often wondered why a full console version was never made into a game.

No matter how many lives you enrich, you're going to lose them all anyway. Or perhaps learn that there were secretly others, now all thinking forever with you?

Personally, I would call this game Lasting. ;)

Imma stop you right there. Why do you have to have a "good reason" for it? This is something that annoys me in a lot of video games that have you play as the supposed bad guy. Sometimes evil is just evil. There doesn't have to be some traumatic or just reason for it all.

I'd definitely enjoy a game where you end up on the other side of things where you are the one raiding villages and destroying kingdoms but I don't think it's necessary for it to be a good thing. The bad guys should just win sometimes.

Do cancelled video games count?

Cause there were space combat games set to be released for the 90's sci-fi show Babylon 5 (if you haven't seen it, seriously go watch it. Basically, it's Mass Effect meets Firefly. But better.)

Also a video game for the tabletop RPG: The Apocalypse, where you become a werewolf and battle supernatural corruption in a goth punk version of our world.

As for ideas?

  • I've always wanted to see a free roaming RPG fighter, where you wonder around a city/arena w/ your original character and their  customized moveset, and take on opponents in versus battles or beat 'em up action, instead of the usual turn based combat.

  • A fighting game that uses custom anthro characters.  Like Bloody roar meets WWF No Mercy,  only w/ customized characters and more geared towards furries.

I've got a few ideas for a game. First is less an "awesome" idea and more a simple one that would nevertheless require a great amount of effort and would fundamentally change the way the game is played. A fighting game with a fully 3-D RPG map. The player would explore the world, talk with characters, and such when not fighting and when combat begins it would become your standard Street Fighter/Soul Calibur affair, perhaps with beat 'em up/hack and slasher mechanics for fighting minions and less threatening enemies.

Now an "awesome" idea I had for a game was a WWII game that wasn't a shooter. Specifically a beat 'em up/hack and slasher. Figure either it could take place in Hong Kong or the Philippines. For the former it would be with a young student fighting back against the Japanese occupation. Something the Japanese did was try to censor or otherwise put down Kung Fu schools and training, thinking there martial arts were better. So there would be historical precedent for it. Likewise for the latter scenario. Not many know this but the native Filipinos actually fought against the Japanese occupiers and many of them were schooled in escrima/arnis. Now I've fought the Axis powers in many ways in video games, shooting them in FPS, shot them down in dogfights in flight games, but something I have not done is pounded them to pulp in protracted brawls.

The first idea is a thing that has needed to happen for awhile. Fighting games are wasted with having only one-on-one fights and whatnot. An action game could really benefit from having a fighting game's level of complexity.

The second sounds boring to me personally since I find most of history, particularly World War 2, extremely boring but to each their own. :P

Well, that kinda was the whole point I was after with my idea, monsters that aren't evil, even though from human point of view they do 'evil' things. I understand that some people wouldn't care for that concept, but that's the kinda game I'd want to play.

Jetpack shooter. There did exists previous games on it and some where you can hover with jetpacks, But there haven't a game where you can fly in the entire game and shoot. I think it would be fun to try a game with that function.

Actually, they had a game that was similar to this. You played as one of the soldiers in Custer's last stand and just before you are killed, you are rescued by these soldiers from a portal from the future. Basically, you are taken in because in history you were listed as MIA, so you are kind of recruited to help fix time, so you get to go to all these crazy events throughout history to help defend people that were never supposed to die and to stop a terrorist group from destroying time itself.

I love the initial idea, like A LOT, but not the specific interpretation. Lasting is the kind of RPG that allows the player to take this complex issue and make their own interpretation of it and "mourning" and "numb" seem to be the "neutral" and "negative" options to a missing positive one. Specifically "gratitude." Being thankful that you knew your loved ones so intimately for as much time as they had and rest assured you will love again. Lasting needs this option: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LivingForeverIsAwesome

I do say "option" though. I know my interpretation on the prospect of immortality is the non-family friendly and (sarcastic gasp) actually positive one but that's the freedom of video games and RPGs specifically, the player can express their views within the piece.

This would also be a great place to possibly put in different gameplay segments. Like if your character was ever a soldier, then combat could either be hack and slash or third/first person shooter depending on when, if, and how long you decided to fight. Or it could be an adventure game, trying to use your knowledge of times past to discover archaeological evidence of your own history or the history of events your were alive during but weren't around to witness. This could involve picking up items that won't become relevant to progress until thousands of years later. You want to take over the world or otherwise assume a level of authority? Then you could throw in strategy game elements for playing politics and diplomacy. Driving, puzzle solving, exploration, space travel, the possibilities are endless. Yeah it's stretching the game engine but this is for brainstorming possibilities and I think Lasting has a load of them if one allows the view of immortal life as human life with all the excitement and banality we experience.

Actually, they had a game that was similar to this. Well except Darkest of Days was about time travel, a very different can of worms then biological immortality. A good game, or at least one who's premise made up for a lot of its failings in my opinion. It holds one of my favorite gaming moments when I got a futuristic machine gun rifle at the battle of Antietam and said aloud;

"Hey! Johnny Reb! Say helloooo to my little friend!"  :sneer:

I'd kinda like a game that explores motherhood, or at least a game where you're in charge of a family in medieval something or other and you must get them to safety.  It'd be like a big escort quest, except you won't want to strangle your kids for needing a leash or walking into a mob of soldiers or what-have-you, as you may have some who will be quite helpful to you.
