general What technology would you bring to the ancient world?

If you could bring an item or specific knowledge that would have been completely foreign to the ancient world to it, what would it be? Would it make people treat you like a wizard? You also have the means to maintain and fabricate more (e.g. rubber tyres).

I would bring a mountain bike.

How far back is ancient?

Cause I would've told the Kaiser Wilhelm "Don't invade Belgium. Don't telegraph Mexico. Trust your Generals. You do those three things and you'll not only win this great war, but prevent a second and save tens of millions of lives."

I would bring my cellphone/smartphone to the ancient world and take a picture of what the lives of the ancient people look like, also HORSES, I will surely take a picture of them!!!

Crossing though Belgium is a better move than tackling the Maginot line.

It's generic, but I'm going with a steam engine to industrialize the Romans.

I'm going to say that I wouldn't bring anything back to any ancient civilization. It's potentially very dangerous to introduce advanced technology to early civilizations for multiple reasons, not the least of which being they might kill you.

Not at the cost of adding the British empire, and by extension the U.S, to the list of enemies. Even if the U.K. still gets involved, Russia would most likely still collapse and Germany would still have plenty of resources to focus on the western front and make it through the Maginot line. Those 2 million American troops made a hell of a difference.

So in hindsight, add not going for unrestricted submarine warfare to the list of things I'd pass on to the kaiser. Cause that also urged the Americans to intervene.

I’d bring air conditioning, electric light and of course a portable means of generating the necessary electricity to make them work. I guess I’d have to bring back plenty of fuel if I use a portable generator. Otherwise I’d have to bring some sort of manually generating power source that doesn’t rely on fuel.

That's a good point--I should have included more history. It would be interesting to pre-empt Edison with some patents.

I wonder how feasible it would be to carefully explain how something works without being accused of witchcraft. Or maybe even the leaders of the time would see a threat to their power in your technology and whisk you away in the night.

I would bring a simple, but modern steam engine to ancient Greece. Hopefully this would either help kick off the industrial revolution early or create a steampunk future.

I'd bring germ theory, and advance medicine early. Just imagine where we'd be now.

Although I probably wouldn't be believed, and tossed in the stocks.

I like modern times, and our creature comforts.

I don't think the Maginot line would be any problem considering it didn't exist at the time. There did exists fortifications along the French-German border, but it wasn't anything like the Maginot line.

The Uk would have joined the war sooner or later anyway. The invasion of Belgium was just a convenient excuse. So even if they didn't invade Belgium they would still have had to fight UK.

Anyway I would bring some antibiotics to around 1450.

My mistake, I thought it was still called that during the first world war. Adding brush up on history to my summer todo list.

Hmm..

No idea. I'd bring a Cola, and then drink it because of thirst?

Don't really need to bring any sort of technology, but germ theory and pasteurization would vastly improve the quality of life of ancient civilizations and significantly extend their citizens' life expectancy.

Either medical technology/knowledge to help people, or some advanced method of communication/recording/preserving everything. Oooh the music history nerd in me would just wonder what it would be like if music from all past civilizations was able to be audibly recorded. It's already such a wonder that we have recordings of say Stravinsky conduct a performance of one of his compositions. Imagine Beethoven, Mozart, J.S. Bach, Machaut, and their music as it was actually played in their time, with the actual instruments of their time.

Showing advanced technology for someone back in times, let's say thousand years, would cause really mixed consequences. Probably some would call you heretic and banish you, or some would accailm you as heavensent. Either way, as some have posted before, i wouldn't bring anything from modern world. It would only mess up things and maybe set myself in troubles. :yeahno:

Vaccines. All the vaccines. Smallpox, polio, cholera, scarlet fever. All the vaccines.

Just imagine how many people would be saved.
