Summer Sunset Celebration. - Best and Worst Sunset Shimmer Moments.

Ganondorf8

Recommended Posts

We had something like this last year via a poll though it didn't quite work out on account of me making a mistake with it. This time around, there is no poll and instead we'll be getting straight to the point.

Sunset Shimmer has been through a lot over the past six years... wow... has it really been that long? I feel old now. Anyway, during those years, she has seen both positive and negative moments which have become synonymous with her character. So this is where I turn things over to you.

What were your best and/or worst moments for Sunset?

Yes, I know that bad moments can be, well, bad, but they are necessary as who likes a character that lacks any flaws?

Movies, specials, shorts, and yes, even the comics, can be used to go with your thoughts.

Since this is a sub-event, the usual rules will be applied here.

Best:

My Past Is Not Today

One of my favorite moments is Sunset's Talk with Twilight in Rainbow Rock in the kitchen where both hint at their troubles and both worry about letting everyone down. It reminds me a lot of animated Aladdin and Jasmine talking about they both feel trapped.

Friendship Games: Her realizing that sometimes they shouldn't have to rely on Pony Twilight all the time. It's the reason why as great as the duet version of What More is Out There could have been. It makes more sense and higher stakes for Sunset not being able to contact Twilight at the moment and come to a solution on her own

Legend of Everfree: Showing not all Equestria Magic is evil. It's how you use it.

Forgotten Friendship: Everyone obviously wants me to pick Sunset reconciliation with Celestia, but for something different from the crowd, I pick her sacrificing her memories to save her friends'

Also, seeing how she would react to reliving the Starswirl Festival over and over is a favorite of mine due to my love of the Groundhog Day Loop trope.

Worst:

In my mind, Sunset was only at her low point when she was being the villain in the first film. Once she befriend the rest of the Equestria Girls (Humane 5), her life was good.

The whole of "My Past is Not Today."

Her reunion with Princess Celestia

Her sacrificing herself to save her friends in "Forgotten Friendship", even after everything that had happened.

Best moment:

  • Reunion with Princess Celestria
  • Turning into Daylight shimmer and befriended with Sci-Twi
  • Her evil self in 1st movie ( I actually like that sassy side of her better)
  • When she is willing to sacrifice her memory
  • When she first got her power
  • WHEN SHE MET STARLIGHT GLIMMER!

Worst: hm, I can't think of a worst moment, she's a solid character.

I honestly liked her as a villain a bit. She wasn’t a very original villain but I thought her design and motives were neat.

As for something I don’t like, I don’t remember enough of the shorts to say for sure, but it’s probably something in there.

Best:

Her entire run as a villain, she was an outstanding villain.

When she stood up and sang along with the Rainbooms to defeat the Dazzlings and Ponied-Up for the first time

My Past is not Today

When she became Daydream Shimmer and helped Sci-Twi escape Midnight Sparkle

Her entire role in Legend of Everfree, she was the best part of that movie

Her reunion with Princess Celestia and the pony scenes immediately after that

When she made the display for Rarity

When she directed the play

When Sunset was helping Sci-Twi decode the text Timber Spruce sent Sci-Twi

Literally any time she uses sarcasm, she is hilarious

Whenever she's adorable

When she threw the ring behind her and it landed on the cup

When she went out to go look for Rainbow Dash with Sci-Twi

Let it Rain

Game Stream

When she ditched Pinkie to go see the Post-Crush concert by herself

When she was interacting with the Dazzlings

When she was saying the thing Sci-Twi was saying at the same time as her

The fight/chase scene with the Time Looper artifact and when Sunset smashed it under her foot

Cheer You On

And the absolute best moment is. . .

Sunset jumping in front of the beam from the Memory Stone to save her friends' memories.

Worst:

When Sunset was obsessed with winning the rigged booth game, and that's about it for worst moments

II didn't read this thread, I just went in here to comment that I still haven't seen Sunset's backstage. That means I don't have all the data to answer yet. I might come back one day, I love Sunset Shimmer!

Huh... Quite the interesting answers so far. I might as well add mine.

If I had a favourite moment, it would be when Sunset finally reconciled with Celestia. We had to wait four years for that to happen and for a time, it looked as though it was never going to happen and would remain an unresolved part of her past. Good thing Forgotten Friendship addressed the issue. Could it have had more oomph? Sure, but at least we actually got it instead of not getting it at all.

A least favourite moment? That would be when Sunset really chewed Sci-Twi out during Friendship Games. Sci-Twi did kind of have it coming what with her actions, yet Sunset went too far and allowed her anger to completely take control of the situation. She's had other instances of losing her temper but this was the worst one.

Why do people keep forgetting the fact that Sunset wrote a message to Celestia telling her to get Twilight's help to deal with the Dazzlings?

Even though only Twilight read the message via the book, for all we knew back then, Twilight might have seen an unspoken message from Sunset to Celestia saying she's doing okay in EQG with Humane 5 and she hopes to accept Celestia's apology even if they never met again face to face. Twilight could have easily told Celestia any apology Sunset might have written done that we as the audience don't directly see. Which is still better than nothing at all.

After all, at the end Celestia asked if Sunset's okay and Twilight respond she left her in good hands.

In short, even if Sunset and Celestia never met again face to face, it's obvious Celestia forgave her a long time ago and Sunset attempting to write to Celestia in Rainbow Rocks already shows Sunset's Reformation

Sunset doesn't know that though, and there's no reason for Celestia to feel like she has to pressure Sunset into returning. Suffice is to say Celestia still cared about her, but it's like a parent being disowned by a child. Just because the kid is doing well, is no guarantee they have any interest in meeting with the parent again. Not sure why it matters though or you think it makes their reunion less impactful, since it was obvious that they both regretted the fallout.

Besides though, I love that Celestia is a bit trollsy when they first meet again. It was one of EqG's best tear-jerker moments I don't think that scene could have been handled any better than it was.

My absolute best Sunset Shimmer moments are when she became good as well everything she did in Rainbow Rocks.

My absolute worst Sunset Shimmer moments are when she was evil.

My favourite Sunset moment would've been when she finally ponyed up towards the end of Rainbow Rocks and saved the Rainbooms from the wrath of The Dazzlings. There were a lot of moments which I enjoyed, but this one stands out as my favourite.

Least favourite would've been the entirety of her role in the first Equestria Girls. She wasn't really a compelling villain and felt awfully generic.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Favourites:

Hard to pick just one from "Rainbow Rocks," though I guess both the kitchen scene and the part where she sings stand out.

Her increasing anger at Flim and Flam in "Rollercoaster of Friendship."

The "My Past is Not Today" song.

Least favourites:

Constantly being the voice of reason in "Legend of Everfree" - you're right that nobody likes a character without flaws.

Ditching Pinkie in "Sunset's Backstage Pass," like what the heck.

That limp excuse for a reunion with Celestia.

I loved her role in Legend of Everfree, Sci-Twi's constant moping and refusing to get help that she needed was understandable for her character, but was the one of the reasons why she was one of my least favorite characters in MLP for a long time(the other was her role in Forgotten Friendship), until Spring Breakdown came and made me start feeling neutral towards her.  Her role in Legend of Everfree was my favorite thing in that whole movie honestly.

I’m not a fan of that movie in general, honestly; both Sunset and Twilight bored me in it.

Her Worst Moment

of course her worst moment would be when she was a villain(obviously), but mostly when she said those things about pinkie pie in better together, I understand that pinkie kept messing things up, but I do think what she said was rude still. They should’ve just gotten the churros earlier and it wouldn’t be much of a problem, since sunset knows how much pinkie wants them :okiedokieloki:

Her Best Moment

Her best moment(once again in better together) is her is just relaxing and deciding to just enjoy her time with Pinkie instead of rushing! Since it was beneficial for the both of them, and they ended up figuring more things out that way, and they both still had fun!

overall I love sunset shimmer! And unless she goes back to being a villain, or her writing goes poor I’ll never! Ever! Stop adoring her!
