Pegasus Ponies and Wearing Clothes

Pegasus ponies have wings, obviously. Usually, having wings would be considered quite an obstacle when it comes to wearing clothes. Yet, we see pegasi wearing clothes all the time. This, of course, is due to some articles of clothing having little slots to slip the wings through. This allows them to fly while wearing clothes, and wear clothes more comfortable.

The part I'm curious about is how this actually affects pegasi. Is it easy or hard to put clothes on? Can it be hard for pegasi to find clothes with wings slots? Are there any special articles of clothing or accessories meant to be worn on the wings? Just anything pertaining to pegasi wearing clothes. I'm curious to see what all of you think.

It's amazing that ponies get clothes on at all without magic.

Pegasi are one of the major body types in Equestria so I'm sure they can find clothes made for them easily. Probably more easily in pegasus cities like Cloudsdale. And of course pegasus clothes have to be made so they don't interfere with flying. They should probably not be baggy, etc.

I have no doubt that Rarity has whole lines of fashionable wear for pegasi of style and taste. She would be sure to make each garment comfortable, and easy to don. Perhaps there is a spell she can infuse each garment with, that makes it easy for the wearer to get in and out of.

I assume that most pegasi fashion is thin, flexible, and/or skin tight with anything flowy being limited or the farthest away from the wings as possible to prevent accidents while flying and make the pegasus fairly comfortable. :darling: Pegasi who have strong wings or prefer to fly swiftly may wear more skin tight clothing, such as the Wonderbolts. :sneer:  Any accessories suited for pegasi are similar. Jewelry mustn't be too dangly and shiny, while hats must include a (transparent) strap that loops over the ears and chin. Accessories for wings include gems on the shoulder/scapula of the wing or simply glitter on the feathers. :mlp_pinkie: As for how a pegasus puts on their clothes, it's rather easy. Depending on how flexible the fabric is or how wide the hole for the wings is, pegasi just fold their wings in, shimmy them through the hole then pop their wings out. To take it off, depending on the flexibility again, pull the hole over the folded wing then take it off like a shirt or a onesie (ta-da). :orly:

I was just thinking about this recently thanks to Rarity's Cloudsdale Boutique idea and Dash saying how it would be impractical, remember that conversation in The End in Friend.

It would have to be shaped in a different way. Open backs maybe, or slots for the wings.

Oh yes, that would make sense. And I never thought of the concept of spells cast on clothes. Very interesting.

This sure does make pegasus clothing seem limited. Although, it does make a lot of sense. The ability to fly probably overshadows their more limited wardrobe.

That scene was a big reason I was curious about this. The idea that most pegasi don't like big dresses makes sense. Although, it makes you wonder if some do. There might be pegasi into that kind of thing. Kerfuffle and Inky Rose show that pegasi can be fashion designers, but their fashion is much lighter and more casual than rarity's.

As long as those don't have metals in them ... I mean, come on, do you want to die? Now I want to see one in a gambeson. It's better for impact damage than the "Men in Tights" thing they have going on right now, especially when you add the icing problem into the equation. The pegasi did not solve the icing problem.

As far as the availability goes, I have a leash for a parrot. Can't see the reason why wings would be an impediment for clothing.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just re-watched Inspiration Manifestation, and I saw the scene where Rainbow Dash is kicking clouds, when all of a sudden Rarity materializes this fancy dress for her.

And she has trouble flying in it!

Though it might be that she was trying to get it off.

I think it would have to depend on the fabric being used.  A pegasi who flys around a lot might not like something that's too heavy or bulky.  Like wool or something?  While a pegasi might enjoy something like Rayon or tulle, something that flows nicely.  Maybe a knit with a lot of stretch to it to make it a bit more comfortable along the back especially if they fly a lot.  I'd like to think that most pegasi who like to wear some sort of clothing prefer something light instead of a denser fabric like denim or, again, wool.  I'm sure it's rather exhilarating to fly and feel the air brush through the fur...  Or whatever type of hair/ fur ponies may have in world...  So they'd want some that flows nicely and is breathable.  They could also prefer a linen suit over a silk for more breath-ability, or have a linen suit to wear as an everyday thing while the silk is only for specific events?

As for putting clothing on, could be a possibility that they have devices that you can latch onto a piece of clothing to hold onto it while you put it on, like one of those things that helps you put on a bracelet with one hand?  They can twist their head around a far ways from what I've seen of ponies reaching back to take something out of a pack or whatever so I wouldn't doubt that they can hold something in their mouths as they tried putting their wings through a jacket hole.  There could be different cuts of clothing that'll be easier to put on with wings on your back, almost like princess seams but they curve along your back to fit better with wings?????????  Idk, interesting thing to think about though!!

Oh, I forgot about that scene. Although I do think most of her reaction is just because she's Rainbow Dash (who has expressed her disliking of dresses), I could see that kind of clothing being unpractical while on weather duty. It would definitely get in the way, like you said. That being said, the pre-equestrian pegasi wore dresses. Maybe their dresses were made from lighter material.

Wow, those are some great points you made. I bet material does play a big factor in pegasus clothing. Something light enough which allows them to fly to their fullest potential. I've always thought of them using their hooves and mouth to put clothes on, but a little device is a good idea too. Some way to fit those fluffy wings into that little wing slot.

This is not even a problem at all. Ponies have tails, pointy ears, and horns (some of them) as well as the wings in the case of the Pegasi. I doubt they even give it a thought on those occasions where they actually feel the need to dress. Fabric can have slots, be stretchable, have buttons, zippers or Velcro to close garments around the extremities of interest, and even magic can play a role when all else fails. Of course it's helpful to avoid wearing anything that would be too bulky and inhibit flight. Finding clothes that fit is something every living creature must deal with but the ponies have it easy because they have magic and even better still, they have Rarity! Don’t worry, she’ll fix you up.
