How can Earth Ponies stand not having wings/magic?

Before all you high-ranked veterans of MLPforums scream that you have seen this post fifty billion times, just hear me out.

 

I really don't get how earth ponies can be totally fine with not having any powers or special abilities while there are unicorns and pegasi all around them who can fly and perform magic. It doesn't seem like they would manage it very long. Somepony would have probably stood up and said that it wasn't fair by now how other races can do amazing things like fly and cast spells while earth ponies can... run.

 

Yes, they can do some pretty awesome things, like... throw hay bales... and buck apples off of trees, but it would still get some ponies pretty annoyed I'm sure.

Exactly what I think. Perhaps the Earth ponies knew that without them, the other two races would starve and die, so they feel more important. However, I didn't see any Earth pony with a particular close connection to nature, because while AJ is a farmer, she doesn't even have any "nature" powers. Plus, Flutters is closer to animals than AJ.

 

They should probably make an episode explaining fully why the Earth ponies are inferior to unicorns and Pegasi and why don't they care that they don't have magic or wings.

Really, I've always thought that Earth Pony allele will die out and Unicorns and Pegasi will eventually become two separate species.

Just so you know Earth ponies have thier own special power that without them the pegasi and unicorn would'nt exist. I think the Earth pinies know and take pride in that fact.

 

Earth ponies are able to grow food (bake awesome treats) and are also usually the most strongest physically compared to the other two types.

There are plenty of people on our own Earth who make it (happily or otherwise) without the gift of intelligence/talent/whatever. And we're not even close to an Equestrian harmony on this planet. Remember, the cutie mark magic gives everypony a talent. So everyone has a place, obviously. I think the individual cutie mark is way more important than the species in consideration of talent, just look at Fluttershy (her pegasus status is largely useless in doing what she loves to do). Earth Ponies can't fly or use magic, but they sure as hell don't have a disadvantage.

Nick here has accepted that he's not having arms and legs and won't ever be able to do certain things that we take for granted. I think that it's the same way for earth ponies, at first they're maybe a little jealous at the pegasus and unicorns. But they learn to accept that they are who they are.

well i think that earth ponies have a strong sense of pride because they can accomplish things with out the need for wings or magic and are more enduring and probably stronger then Pegasus and Unicorns. however i think they would get annoyed when other ponies bring this point up.

This is a great post and I totally agree about individual talents being more important for the ponies than which kind of pony they happen to be. To add something more to that, I've noticed that Rainbow seems to be a much better and more skilled flier than Fluttershy, and Twilight's magic powers seem much stronger than Rarity's. So basically, just because you're born (or foaled, whatever) with a certain ability, it does not follow that you will excel at that ability.

My opinion of fluttershy is that she potentially could have been a great flyer when it comes to the amount of actual magic she has. Her magic is merely NOT focused around her wings -- it is focused around her eyes. "The Stare" comes with a price -- and that is that she simply isnt as fast as the other pegasi due to her magic being set up "wrong" for a pegasus.

This, basically. The Earth Ponies are able to grow crops far better than Pegasi or Unicorns, because unlike the later two, they have a connection to the earth. That's their power. It's not flashy like being able to do magic or fly, but it's one of the most important powers ever. So important that Earth Ponies were the cornerstone species in the Hearth's Warming Eve play, showing that both Pegasi and Unicorns went to the Earth Ponies for their food, and that all three tribes fell into strife when the Earth Ponies could no longer grow their crops.

 

So yeah, that's how they stand it.

Real life would be much worse if it weren't for the fact that different sorts of people tend to be geographically divided. Imagine growing up as a kid in a war-torn third-world country where all your life, you're trying to stay safe, keeping in large groups of other children. Wouldn't it be a little unfair that you don't get to be that middle-class kid with a smartphone?

Apparently being unable to fly or to zap things means life ain't worth a bit and we as a human should kill ourselves because we don't have any extra appendages

 

While the argument that Earthsies are the only one who can grow corpses can also be used to ascertain their status as a slave/worker caste, not having any fancy appendages doesn't mean you will live on the bottom tier.

If you pay more attention to the show, you will see Earth ponies can use their tail better than the other races, and they tends to have much more stamina.

 

Living as a pegasi, you will be expected to do all the flight-based tasks, and to help any weather related duties. As an unicorn you will have to prove yourself as a smartass, lest you will turns out as Snips and Snails and unable to do fancy magics.

Hmm... I don't think that earth ponies are completely unfazed by the fact that they have no wings or magic. In fact I am almost positive that a tinge of jealousy has been displayed by both Pinkie Pie and Applejack. Pinkie Pie durring the Gilda episode and Applejack durring the episode with the contest between Rainbow Dash and Applejack. I think it is something that they constantly think about, like how some humans look up at the sky and see a bird and feel jealousy of the bird's wings. I feel jealousy towards my cousin who can play any instrument flawlessly verbatim. I know that I can never do that because it is a talent that I was not born with, but I envy the crap out of it. Sure I still have pride in what I got, but I will always be jealous of my cousin just a bit.

Frankly, as a human without wings or magic, or really any kind of physical advantage besides our brains, I think that Earth ponies' lives aren't so bad. Even if they can't use unicorn magic or fly around, they can still benefit from the effects of those who can. I think that's part of the whole living in harmony thing. We humans have electricity and flight physics figured out, so we're covered, but otherwise we're just like Earth ponies. No powers or super-anything, just a connection with the planet.

I don't believe such a thing like earth ponies are the only ones that can cook, bake or grow food, I mean, the only thing they need it's hooves, and all 3 types of ponies have hooves, right? everypony can grow food, no matter what type of pony!

earth ponies have a huge disadvantage here and that's why I love them , however I see them as the most physically capable of the 3 types. Applejack is the obvious answer to that. She's athletic(see applebuck season episode), strong (see mare do well episode) and she has a lot of stamina (play Fighting is magic XD)...

 

so in conclusion, earth ponies have their own talents, we just can't see them because Pinkie Pie is always breaking the 4th wall and Applejack doesn't get enough episodes

.. I suck at poetry, but I think that they all might be a bit jealous of each other. You only want what you can't have. That Pegasus that dreams of the forest? He is put on the weather team. The earth pony that wants to be one of the Canterlot elite? He gets put in the kitchen making food. They might want something desperately, but of they have no talent in that area, then why ignore the talent they have in another? I am so envious of my friend's piano playing skill, but she wishes she could draw animals. It works both ways.
