For inspiration to generate ideas for writing about space empires, I watch MLP fanart with something random to accompany it.

For example, watching "Equestria Girls" (especially Twilight Sparkle) to heavy metal makes me think of murderous plant aliens.

And I look at pictures of Gilda the Gryphon with images of Star Wars, Idiocracy, and drunk people for ideas about a corrupt space empire that fights those aforementioned cannibalistic space elves.

Inspiration can come from the least likely and the most deranged places, isn't it?!

EDIT: And for a poor kingdom of horse-riding aliens caught in the crossfire, I look at pictures of Double Diamond (as their royal symbol) while I listen to Indonesian music and browse Majapahit art.
