I think Rarity would make for a nice pet, as she seems unlikely to require much maintenance. On the other hand she would be the type to require a lot of pampering, but I can't say no to that face.

Honestly, as stated before by Arrow, how can you keep a creature with intellect even close to yours as a pet? But as a roommate/friend/other I would choose Twilight Sparkle. She's helpful, smart, caring, thoughtful, and always the last one to give up. Everything that you'd ever look for in a friend.

For a pet...... Fluttershy!! She is just so cute. I see her more as a (for lack of a better term) "Pet Type"

 

Calm, Quiet (when she wants to be lol), cute, and cuddly.

 

For a friend: Twilight or Rainbow Dash. I feel like I could get along well with Twilight's personality type, and My best friend right now acts almost exactly like Rainbow Dash anyway.
