technology Are we moving too fast technology-wise?

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen a tv made in the last 2 years that isn't a HD flat screen. I haven't seen a preview for a movie lately that doesn't say it's in 3D. I haven't seen any new phones that aren't smart...

I could go on, but I think you get what I'm saying. Is it good, or are we moving too fast?

Look at the WiiU, nothing new or impressive about it what so ever.

We are moving to slow.

I can't think of anything that has been upgraded in the last few years. Bigger screens, thats the future.

Until we can create our own realities by inserting electrons directly into our brain to simulate a real experience, I will not be impressed by our technology.

Technology can never move too fast. Change is good, new and better technology is always a good thing. It's the users of said technology who move too slow...

I must disapprove with the title because the human has become more unintelligent and unaware of its sorundings if we compare to the egyptians they would be at flying cars in our age if they had the basic concept of programming, engineering and most important industry. So basically the factors point that we are moving slower than our past did.

I think there is an app for that on the Iphone market.

Or just ask some of the Hollywood guys if you can use that chair thingy on "Total Recall"

Nah, I think we're moving just about right. Not too fast, or slow.

Apple aside, even video game companies like Nintendo aren't really advancing too much. They're stepping it up little by little.  Hope it stays that way. Plus, it's not like Ipad, then a time-travel machine. It's moving just about right. Just think, if there wasn't any internet...we bronies wouldn't know each other! Pretty cool how it works, huh?

Actully a macs more complicated than the internet... You know the internet is just a server connecting with your computer through a network it aint really that hard to freaking do a server (your computer comes with one but only the big ones) while network is harder to do the last is the connection... This is using wireless communication across places but it also use ethernet connection that is faster but need you to have a cable in your computer but works the same.

I like how Humanity is moving faster with technology. Just because its something we cannot truly understand 100% doesn't mean its going to have a bad outcome. I hope soon we are able to move to space solve many problems and we'd have even better tech. Sure there are some negatives things that can happen Terminators, Geth, and so on. But the one thing that I realized in my 20 years of living and being exposed to all the sources of information if humans cannot control Tech. lets say Geth and tech. wipes humanity out of existence then its for the better of the universe. We as humans should be able to overcome anything we create and if we cannot then we should be passed by a more superior race.

\This part Halo talk relating to my thoughts above/ Skip this if you'd like

I guess my thoughts are similar to the Halo Lore.  Precursors who came before Forerunners were wiped out by a lesser race Forerunners. The precursors left the Forerunners with one final thing to overcome which was the Flood. Humanity was right there with the Forerunners both two races were at the top of the chain but only one can be the Dominant race, but humanity wiped out from fighting a two front war against the flood and Forerunners. The flood was the final step for either race to become the dominant race in the Universe. If they could not overcome the  threat then they should not be the dominant race.

@@Betez,

I partially succeeded in starting a movement here to resist 3d movies in cinemas so there's nothing to prevent you guys from doing the same.I personally despise 3d because it doesn't really add anything while I just dislike how the movie looks with the glasses on.

Cinemas are going to provide option for both 3d and normal if there's significant resistance to 3d only. The whole 3d nonsense is probably pushed by some lobbyist anyway.

Yeah, technology is moving really quickly these days.

In 10 years, a number of Barnes and Noble stores will be closed down due to books being available digitally. A number of Gamestop stores will be closed down due to gaming on mobile.

Tech is evolving, and is effecting a number of things these days.

Anypony heard of Moore's law?

It states roughly that technology (specifically computing power) Doubles every 18 months. And continues on until the limits of a ccertain material are reached and another material like Carbon needs to be used in place of Silicon.

And from what I've seen lately thats spot on. Every time you turn around there's some new phone with a Faster processor than some competitor.

Heres a graph that illustrates the point.

667px-Transistor_Count_and_Moore%27s_Law

Along with one that described Hard drive capacity.

700px-Hard_drive_capacity_over_time.svg.

Described in Gigga-bytes

And one that pertains to computer screens.

Hendys_Law.jpg

They ALL follow the same exact graphing line.

Any ways getting back to the point.

I dont think technology is moving to fast as it is a natural progression.

Humans just have a drive for progress and there seems to be no slowing it down.

Might as well get used to it.

Mostly the problem I have is that we have all this unnecessary stuff. Not everything needs to be HD, 3D, or have "UNLIMITED DATA". The other day, I was at a grocery store; I saw these 2 kids in a stroller both watching movies on there IPhone 5's. Is it really necessary that everyone in your family needs the latest smartphone? It seems like that's what the media wants us to think.

Hello!

Well, if it means having to buy a new Ipad or a new Iphone every two months, then yes

Apart from the jokes, No. Advancment in technology is a natural process. Evolving into different times is what adventure and life really is. Sure, Technology has taken over people's lives far to much, but, because of that, advancement is crutial to keep many people satisfied.

Biggest issue is that technology isn't making things cheaper. I pay more for my cable, internet, phone then ever before and my cell phone bill hasn't really gone down for basic service. A hot new dvd vcomes bundled with a blue ray dvd (combo pack) even if i dont WANT a blue ray disc for $15-20.

The other things there can be seen as frivolous, but not the bolded statement. Cathode ray tube monitors have been obsolete for years because they are really inefficient and harmful to the environment. And High Definition is not an advanced technology on TV anymore, especially 1280x720 pixels, which I can settle for.*

The only reason  you should have a CRT TV or computer monitor in your home is if it's one you've owned for years, or got it cheap at a garage sale, or if you are living in a hotel and that is the TV it came with.

The flat screen makes it more efficient, which we desperately need.

*I also really dislike TV monitors over 27 or 32 inches (especially ones upward of high 40s, 50-inches); they seem to be designed for people who have personal space issues and are unable to  be physically close to other humans when multiple people watch a movie or TV show. Unless you have like a dozen people over at your house.

I will say about the 3-D movie thing, that isn't because it's revolutionary. It's because film producers realized "Hey, if we put this in 3-D we can charge twice as much!" Making a movie 3-D just requires a slightly more expensive camera. (Coming from someone who is heavily biased against 3-D because my left eye sucks.)

I still have a CRT actually. Only because I've had it since the 90's, and have had no reason or money to get a new one.

Other than that, my laptop is the only advanced technology I have. I hate cell-phones, I only carry mine when I'm going to be gone for an extended period. I don't text, never have. My phone doesn't have internet, either. I don't own an i-anything. My Wii is the only video game console I have that's "New," I still play my N64 and SNES(Before it sadly broke.)

But in other less civilian technologies. I think we're in an exciting time, and the future will be more interesting than ever before. (Coming from a history nerd.)

Change is the law of life, and we're breaking it. Technology wise, we're fine. But what has change problems is US. We're getting too attached to the ideals of technology (quick answers, black and white solutions, LAZINESS) to handle it. And to be honest, technology is practically hindering our ability to use technology correctly. Our computers and phones and laptops and shit are getting more powerful, influential, and smart, while what made it is getting stupid.

And as proof, I can barely focus right now to correctly word what I'm saying, so if I post anymore this reply will become a clusterbuck of nonsense mixed with genious ideas. Yup.

OT: I don't know if it's possible to move too fast technologically speaking... I think it's cool, personally.

The games that are out for it now are mostly bad. I can't think of any really good ones. The technology and hardware is bad as well.

I think we are moving at a pretty consistent rate with technology actually. What we available today is crazy and it is a good thing that technology continues to upgrade. Look at medical technology for example that is one of the many positive things that technology has helped us with and will continue to do so.

Well, technology has become a part of life. Technology is appearing everywhere now. Even at our jobs.

The new technology may be overwhelming, but it's a part of life, now. I'm not saying we should completely shun the outside world. I still like to jump around in the snow and I love the forest. But, technology is a part of life. If you shun technology, you're gonna have a bad time.
