Applejack: "Ya did real good, `Great and Powerful Trixie'."

Trixie: *sheepishly* "No...it's just `Trixie'. But, thanks."

If a full-on redemption scene / episode is coming for Trixie in season 4, you know there's gonna be dialogue similar to this...

Ain’t that Equestria / Drop on by / Ain’t that Equestria / Give friendship a try / Ain’t that Equestria / Ponies who fly / Little pink cupcakes for Pinkie Pie

Applejack: "Ya did real good, `Great and Powerful Trixie'."

Trixie: Ah, do you know realize the error of your ways?

Applejack[\b]: Nope, Ah'm just sahrcastically praisin y'all, somethin' y'all can't undahstand.

Trixie[\b]: Insolent fool! Not only do you defy me, but you hypocritically boast about your sarcasm skills. I challenge you to a sarcasm duel!

Applejack[\b]: What? Is that a contest where we just say false things all sarcastic-like?

Trixie[\b]: No, it's a contest where you actually live up to your element of honesty instead of smugly telling half-truths to get rid of problems.

Alright, so...not that it warrants this much time, but I think this required a little more context. ;) I'm a big TGAPT fan, and (fair warning) also in favor of her getting full redemption at some point. I know not everyone's in that camp; I know that, for some people, she may not need redemption. But, for me, that's where I'd like to see her when all is said and done.

The "greatest equine who has ever lived" is a braggart on a ridiculously silly level, yet we know she buys into herself and her third-person-referring persona fairly deeply, and is quite disappointed when her weaknesses are revealed to her. My quote was part of an imagined scenario in which Trixie does something honestly and truly powerful, and thus has an epiphany re: who she really is, and what sincerely makes one great (hint: it's not bragging). This has been done before in television animation, and I'm trying to think of a good example...but the only example which comes to mind at the moment is with a character I've always somewhat loathed: Peggy Hill on King of the Hill; specifically the episode "Peggy's Fan Fair" when she finally comes to terms with the fact that her "special" food dishes - which she names after herself - aren't really all that special. At the end of the episode, after Hank calls her apple brown betty "Apple Brown Peggy" (to acknowledge that she's turned a corner and thus bettered herself), Peggy admits that it's just a regular ol' apple brown betty with a spoonful of orange juice. My Applejack and Trixie lines, above, somewhat mirror this moment.

Also in that quote, Applejack - who's historically been very anti-Trixie - is paying her a genuine compliment, but Trixie is countering with her newly-learned knowledge that she no longer needs her longer moniker, or her bravado, to be proud of herself. It'd be a timely message [where's Twilight's soapbox from "Feeling Pinkie Keen"? Oh - here it is] to the target demographic of the show, given how so many pop-culture references relating to ego and self-worth nowadays have to do with explicitly professing that oneself is unique and special. But, in no way am I suggesting that Trixie really isn't "The Great and Powerful Trixie". As a matter of fact, Applejack calling her that finally makes it official. One can't give oneself a nickname and have it mean anything concrete; a nickname which sticks has to be dealt out by your peers.

Anyhow, all defenses or critiques of Trixie theories, and neigh-sayers of certain headcanon and what not when it comes to her are appreciated by me. She's worth the effort `cause she's badass!

But then there'd be too many alicorns. img-1628732-1-sad.png

I'll fix that...

But then she'll have power.

Excuse me? The reason for Trixie's greatness is exactly the opposite. Even lacking powers of some rivals, she remains to be much more inspirational, as she keeps on trying her best.

You would get rid of that for something as silly as power?

What exactly do you mean?  The coronation of Twilight doesn't affect the nature of the struggle between them; Twilight remains the highly privileged but usually uninspired mage and an unconvincing leader while Trixie is down-on-her-luck but ambitious and is a natural leader despite not (yet) having anything to lead.  Twilight's princesshood only increases the dichotomies.

Yeah, but come now.

If she does come back, they'll need to make her just as powerful as Twilight to keep the rival aspect intact. They've already explored something to give her power. Now, what else to do?

And, more likely, she's redeemed technically. Which, if you ask me, means that she definitely won't return.
