Gilda the Griffon: Your Opinion on her Past and Future in MLP

No I do not want her to return. I see no reason why she should since she got pissed at Rainbow Dash and only was with her because she was cool. Also, I didn't like Gilda.

I can't see the point, in all honesty. I can come up with all sorts of theoretical plots for her, but I feel like each of them would fall flat. If it was pulled off very well, then I'm fine with it, but I'm not actively hoping for her to return.

So I'll just put 'unsure' and be on my way. :>

i honestly didnt like anything about Gilda's character, but i welcome more Trixie episodes. she was pretty cool, and i wouldnt mind seeing her in future plot lines.

It could be interesting to see what they would do with that, but I have a feeling that she won't be as mean as she was if she comes back. I can easily see an episode in which she realizes how mean she was and tries to change her attitude towards others, etc... And I'm not sure I would like that. I prefer to see her as a mean one-episode antagonist.

I was wondering everyone's opinion on Gilda Griffon. For me, I pretty much hated her since she made Fluttershy cry, and Pinkie's opinion of her was spot on. But...then I saw this comic...

 

 

Your thoughts on Gilda? Is her reputation deserved, or does she need a redemption episode in S.4?

My opinion is probably out of the norm, but I really do like Gilda a lot... but maybe not because I just want her to be redeemed or because she was Rainbow Dash's friend.

 

Now, do I think she should be redeemed? Well... maybe.

 

But the thing is, I really love antagonists, and I really thought Gilda bullying Pinkie and the other ponies in Ponyville was really funny and enjoyable to watch. Now, don't get me wrong, I like it when characters get along, but it's always nice to have a character that mixes things up and causes conflict, which Gilda most certainly did. I don't hate her at all for what she did to Pinkie Pie, Granny Smite, or Fluttershy, but I think she got her just deserts when Dash told her off.

 

So I dunno. Like I said, I really like Gilda, but I actually like her more as an antagonist or perhaps a rival for Pinkie or Dash more than just a character that can show and get redeemed.

I feel bad for her, even though she was unnecessarily harsh towards Pinkie and Fluttershy. I don't know if she needs a redemption episode, as those seem fairly overdone at this point and I would rather save any that we have left for more interesting characters (such as Lightning Dust). It's never a good feeling to lose a friend. If only she were able to accept that Dash had other friends, and that it was unfair of her to want to monopolize her time. Still, if she came back we might get some insight into Dash's childhood, which might be nice. Overall, not a particularly big fan but I do have sympathy for her.

While Gilda is not exactly perfect and was indeed out of line with lashing out against Fluttershy I don't think she is this horrific irredeemable hell spawn that fans make her out to be. Pinkie Pie acted like a jealous stalker so Gilda had every right to be angry at her, is it so much to ask for a little personal space? I like Pinkie Pie don't get me wrong but she seems to have problems respecting that a lot of times and her actions in Griffon the Brush Off are a very good example of that. Gilda hadn't seen her friend Rainbow Dash in years and wanted to catch up and for all we know could have had some personal, private stuff she may have wanted to confide in her about, I mean you never know.

 

I really want Gilda to return because I am not at all satisfied with the ending of Griffon The Brush Off, why is Gilda demonized when Pinkie Pie was also out of line? And sure there is such a thing as false friends but just because Gilda is pissed off at Pinkie Pie dosen't make her a false friend.

as a fellow griffin, i understand the anger she feel when someone is annoying (irl as well) so i do feel for her but griffin or no griffin, nopony has the right to make fluttershy upset.

 

oh and i do think they should have more episodes with her in because although she was mean to fluttershy, she is still a pretty awesome character and i can sort of relate to her

I actually think she was one of the better one-time antagonists, because loads of us know someone exactly like her. Someone's old friend reappearing out of nowhere, and wanting that reunion time. She's harsh as anything, but she's believable.

You know, reading DashForever and EarthBending's responses, kind of makes me think: why do we have to sympathize with Gilda or rationalize the way she acted to like her?
 

Like I said, I liked her for being antagonistic and because I found her to be an interesting character; I think Flipturn is right in saying that we all know somepony (or somegriffon, in this case) just like Gilda, because I do. Now, I don't like those type of people in real life, but I enjoy Gilda as a character and think she has some interesting characteristics and back story, especially since she used to be Dash's friend.

 

I think I'd actually like to see both her and Lightning Dust come back, and maybe get redeemed but not really. Cause I think redeeming every single antagonist is a bit ridiculous.

, I'd forgotten about Pinkie's reactions in that episode. It could be argued that Pinkie was just finally happy to have made RD her friend, since it appeared in the beginning of the episode that they didn't like each other very much.

 

I personally think she needs a redemption episode, or at least an episode where she comes back to Ponyville to assist the Mane Six in some way. Hey, that could be an episode! A moral about misjudging people the first time and the need to give them a second chance!

I am not excusing her actions, Gilda was indeed wrong but I legitimately feel that Pinkie Pie was also wrong for not respecting Gilda's personal space. Twilight Sparkle was wrong for denouncing Gilda as a "false friend" even though she didn't know her and only knew Pinkie Pie's side of the story and Rainbow Dash was wrong for basically telling Gilda to go to hell even though she saw how Pinkie Pie acted. I just feel it was unfair for them to all get off scott free while Gilda took all the blame, yes I will admit that I do like Gilda though but no I do not believe you have to even sympathize with Gilda to like her as a character. I like the Flim Flam brothers but I didn't really sympathize all that much with them.

Oh no, I wasn't saying that what you were saying was wrong at all, but I was just saying that I know some people seem to have to defend Gilda's actions in order to like her in any form. I like her because she goes against the grain and is a bit rude.

 

However, I do see where you're coming from when it comes to Pinkie. I think this is a situation where there was a lot of confusion and actually a lot of ponies were at fault here. At the same time, it's clear from the beginning that Gilda does not like Pinkie. I understand that perhaps Pinkie was sticking too close to Gilda and Rainbow, but Pinkie just met Gilda and wanted to hang out with her and Gilda, and Gilda basically almost killed her by ruining her pedal copter and everything.

 

I feel that it's one of those things where Gilda was in the wrong, but so were some other characters.

Top 5 reasons why CITRUS KING likes Gilda.

 

1. Griffons are cool.

 

2. She is cute.

 

3. Maryke Hendrikse is awesome.

 

4. I find her interesting and worthy of getting a more complex and nuanced look at her personality. I mean, I know she's a bitch, but I still felt sorry for her at the end.

I know it's cliched and a lot of shows do it, but I really would love to see an episode where some antagonists team up to take on the Mane Six, or maybe just all show up in the same episode. I think I've mentioned this several times before, but I really, really could see  Gilda and Lightning Dust becoming friends and perhaps trying to get payback at Rainbow Dash for some perceived slights that they endured, or maybe Iron Will becoming the new spokestaur for Flim and Flam's cider or something.

 

So in short, we need some antagonist team ups!

 

But that's all off-topic...

 

So yeah, I think Gilda could come back, perhaps with Lightning Dust in tow. Heck, if they were going to do a redemption episode, they could do a two for one with them!

No, but seriously, I get what you're saying, but Fluttershy did make up for those crimes against her friends, Gilda has not. Like Crispy said, though, Gilda was a toxic person and the episode was supposed to show that sometimes people who you keep around as friends aren't exactly healthy for you in the end.

 

And once again, I'm inclined to agree that we need to take a break from redemption stories.  Yes, what we really need is for Gilda to become a hit-griffon and try to take out Pinkie with several elaborate schemes that all fail.

Sometimes there are people in your life that are toxic and just need to go.  I think this episode is a good representation of that.

Maybe Gilda is, maybe Gilda is not we don't really know that for sure because by that same logic Pinkie Pie, Twilight and Rainbow Dash are also toxic and need to go. In stories where there is a bully character the heroes while they may make mistakes they either don't behave as badly as the bully does or if they do they realize they did and stop stooping to their level but that simply did not happen in Griffon The Brush Off. If Gilda returns she could be redeemed but I would also be satisfied if she was not redeemed so long as Pinkie Pie, Twilight and Rainbow Dash realize that they weren't entirely blameless either.

I would love to see a Gilda episode where she tries to prank Pinkie Pie back, but they all backfire because of her Pinkie Sense, and the fact she can defy the laws of physics. xD

 

Even if she's not redeemed, I'd like to see more Gilda.
