I type pretty quickly but with one hand only, I don't know if that counts as chicken peck or not. I only use the second hand for dat shift key.

The only time I ever look at the keyboard is to turn up/down my brightness according to the time of day :3 No formal learning, I've just spent so much time on the internet. Don't know if I should be proud...

I don't "chicken peck" at all; I like to use all my fingers for typing, since it feels more comfortable to me that way (except when I'm on my iPod, then I use my right index finger and left thumb all the time.) However, I don't have the layout of my keyboard memorized very well, so I prefer to look at my hands and the keys as I type. If I don't look at them, then I tend to make a lot of typos, and it gets annoying to have to go back and fix them all.

Anyway, I feel that people should just use whichever style of typing that's most efficient for them, whether it's considered to be proper or not. :)

I've been able to touch-type for many years now, even before I could type entirely without looking at the keyboard I rarely looked at it, I'm primary school we had a typing class so I have been able to type properly on a keyboard since around the age of 5.

I can chicken peck, not in the way I assume you mean (typing with one or two fingers, looking at the keyboard) I can actually type rather well with my nose.

I've definitely used a lot of my fingers for typing, so you can safely say I'm a hybrid of chicken pecking and using all of my fingers to type. However, I most frequently used my right index finger while I use most of my fingers from my left hand.

I learned to type when I was five. I'm known as 'the fastest typer' in my school. Of course, typing quickly means I usually make simple spelling errors, but those can easily be fixed. I don't need to look at the keyboard while I type, and I can type even in the darkness. I can type out a five paragraph essay in about 20 minutes (more if I get distracted, which I usually do.)

I don't chicken peck, though I don't use the correct way of typing.

Hello there!

Technology has become such a big part of our everyday life these days, A lot of us do not even know how to type though!

(If you don't, that is totally fine! :) )

The question is: Do you know how to type, Or do you just look down on "Chicken Peck" the keyboard?

Leave your answer below!

Took typing class in Highschool.  I average about 60wpm nothing special   but I know the keys as long as I am not thinking about them.

I also tend to glance at my keyboard, I guess to realign my hands or something.

I know how and I hate how it works. I can type much faster by just letting my hands float as needed across the board. But if I try the "proper" method, I can't do it without watching the keyboard.

I used the typical efficient typing method, the method involving you hunching all your fingers over the keyboard and vibrating them like tuning forks, which then reach a certain frequency to the point when you could see 2 fan shaped figures darting around on the keyboard, and after your're done, go back to what you just typed to frown over the sea of spelling and grammatical errors.

I touch-type correctly. I type with the speed and ferocity of a Browning unloading its entire clip into a platoon of Nazi's.I recently started a job in Content Writing, and the main reason I got the job is because I can type like a man possessed. I've memorized the entire Qwerty layout, which has served me well for everything from writing blog posts to shooting people in the skulls. 152 WPM is my best. And that's generally without typo's, too.

I can't chicken peck. I don't particularly like it. But typing comes naturally to me since i've been around computers for as long as I know. It's not really something that comes easily to a lot of people, so I can bear it.

Unless I need to work alongside them and then they chicken peck, in which case I snatch the keyboard, twat them with it, and type myself.

I'm in the middle xD I tend to glance down when I'm typing to check I'm still in the right place... But I am by no means a touch typist... Then again I don't poke around the keyboard like some kid poking a dead animal with a stick...

I guess I have my own way of typing... It's not the fastest but I'm not in work that needs super fast typing to get ahead so... Yeah

I don't chicken peck.. well, not fully. I sort of type fast by typing one finger at a time, not that stupid other way schools teach us. I don't need to look at the keyboard, though. :3

I look if i make a mistake. I look at the blurry picture my un-focused eyes make when i focus on the text i am writting. But in general i know the patterns of my keyboard well enough to actually type without looking. My parents seem impressed but honestly i am just used to it due to typing a lot. It also has a lot to do with whether i am thinking the things i am writting or actually reading them and writting them on the PC, or listening to them for that matter. It also depends on how fast my thoughts come to mind. I might be looking when i am writting my fanfic but usually i am not.

It also has become less of a problem since my English has drastically improved the more i type, think, and work in that language. In truth i am from Greece thus English is not my native language and i can't say the classes i did made me learn good english. They however have enabled me to interact in an easier way with you people and talking to my cousin from Belgium in said language has also helped. There is also a member amongst the forums who's vocabulary has helped me improve my own. ((Thank you Dawn Stripes))

I really don't get how people can use hunt and peck.  What I mean by that is that I couldn't really do it anymore.  I just think it's way too inefficient to actually use.  Having said that, I'm one of those people that took a class in high school to hone my typing skills and learn the "home row" method.  I'm not the fastest typer, but it's a skill I've had many years to perfect.  I honestly can't imagine using a keyboard any other way.

The only thing I really use my index fingers for on the keyboard, besides the standard 8 16 keys you access during normal typing are the function keys, the arrow keys, and the block for moving inserting, deleting, and rapidly moving up and down a page.  Oh, and the escape key, I guess.

Edit:  I'm sure glad I've never had to use a DVORAK keyboard before.  I've heard they're supposed to have key arrangements that are "superior" to QWERTY boards, but honestly I think that my memory muscle would win out.  It would take a lot of learning to get those stupid things right.
