DigiBrony wanting to die out of the Fandom

No, there's noting wrong with "wanting" the show to be that way and I agree that it should.... but its the proverbial "want" in one hand...

Its not that way, has never been that way and isn't going to be that way any time soon.

But that doesn't make it bad because its not. I felt that Digi was going too far into what it should be and was forgetting how it is and his depression was showing in his videos. And that's what was getting me irritated.

Theres nothing wrong with taking a new direction but it was becoming more like a brat tantrum, not so much in the verbal sense, but attitude and demeanor.

Okay, that's fair enough. I guess I'm not exactly qualified to give an informed opinion on the subject. Like I said, I've never been a fan of Digibrony and have only watched a couple of his videos. I was mainly drawn to discussions such as this because of someone who said they were annoyed at how Digibrony had been really negative recently (something that I found hard to take seriously since I always thought of Digi as not being harsh enough with his reviews) and then I stumble across this thread and find out that many other people feel the same way about him.

I don't know, maybe I'm just going off the wrong information. Digi had always been a revered member of the fandom and to me it sounded like people were just kicking up a fuss because a well known reviewer didn't like season 4 and the fans couldn't handle their sacred show being criticised.

I'm still really surprised that all this is even happening. Digibrony? Losing interest in the show? Leaving the fandom? Being called out for being too negative? He's the last person I expected this from. His most popular video (the Twilicorn one) instilled bronies with hope about the future of the show, prompting people to trust the writers. And yet he himself has lost faith in the writers and lost interest in the show. I'm not sure what lesson to take away from that.

Yeah it's a bummer to hear. I do think his rabid fanbase that took his opinions as gospel were a bit of the problem. To him at least. I know Cats Millionaire getting very offended with him on his opinions on the DWM movemement and APM were a low point for him as well as she really shouted at him in a real nasty way. Shame he seems to be going through a low point publically. Guess this is what happens when you get burned out on the same thing.

Honestly i just don't understand why episode analysis is such a thing anyway. Who really needs episodes explained to them anyway? Can't people pick out the themes and symbolism themselves?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've never cared for the guy or for in-depth analysis of the show. I find it much more enjoyable to just watch it and form my own thoughts on it/why I like it in the first place. I think it's a bit silly to put Digi so high up on a pedestal as though he's the ultimate authority on nitpicking. I don't think the fandom has lost anything by him calling it quits; IMO he takes the show far too seriously and it's destroyed his ability to enjoy it.

The only reason I found digibrony was when in the 'early days' of watching MLP (March 2013 for me), I would look for it on the YouTube app on my TV. A lot of episodes would be either taken down, or you'd play say Season 1 episode 5, and it would then autoplay digibrony's Season 1 episode 6 analysis after, and I couldn't find episode 6.

Frankly he only got anywhere due to his search engine rankings and I think he knows it, especially if you look at how low the views are for anything non-pony related he uploads.

I used to think he was alright due to how candid he was in his digi cribs vlogs and what not, his analysis is really not good. By his own admission in video form multiple times he says he 'dumbs it down'. I think that says everything anyone needs to know about him and his intents.

I haven't watched any DigiBrony videos in a long time. But this is what I think of DigiBrony and people who overanalyze the show in general:

YOU'RE TAKING IT TO FAR!

At its core, this is still a dadgum kids show. Kids shows aren't exactly known for their depth or their complexity but MLP has sort of broken that mold. However, just watch the dang show and form your own opinions instead of going to others to tell you what to think. Also, you people who analyze things to death kill things like this for me. I'm not saying don't hold them to a higher standard. That's what keeps quality high. But at the same time, don't nitpick every single little detail until it becomes a chore to watch your favorite show. Just watch it and enjoy it and have fun.

I never really understood the appeal of a episode review anyway. I mean, I can understand watching a review of EqG just for some nostliga critic level laughs as they pick a movie apart, but I never really got the whole episodic weekly review thing. It seems a lot of the older giant talking heads of this fan group seems to be leaving.

He started odd very strong, but as of late its clear he suffers from depression. Digi seems to faaling down the same hole as tommy oliver, and to be honest the both have made something pure and innocent into a form of ego driven, job like "duty". I am happy for him leaving the fandom, his work has become tainted, and his youth isn't helping the emotion stress that being a leader in a community requires. Hopefully he exits with grace,to return someday when his heart can once again be open to the shows message.

No hate, not trolling, best of luck to the young man. Mlp will always be here for him.

Could not give 2 bucks about that, his decsision and i really dont care.. I dont watch rewievers anyway, I make my own thoughts on the episode and ill be the judge if its good or bad. Alot of people just seem to go there to see if a ''proffesional analyst'' liked it or not. and base their opinion on the episode from someone elses opinion instead of making their own.

and probably end up in the same place because the anime fandom is no better than us, maybe even worse
Yeah the anime fandom is.... well, there's a reason I would rather talk about anime on this forum (  ) than an actual anime forum ( my blood pressure rises just thinking about it ).

But I watched digi's vid on "Maud Pie" and his new style is... I had a "is this the same guy?!" for a moment. The review itself was allright but man... Digi just needs to take a brake from reviewing, the fandom, and take a trip to get some good juju in his system. Like take six months travel, just somewhere, backpack across Europe, backpack across the US on a Greyhound bus, or take a pottery class from a community college during the Summer or something. I really worry about the guy now. :(

Pretty much, I love the hell out of anime but the fandom is caught between a side that just disgusts me(lolicon and shotacon) and another that just pisses me off with it's elitism.

I knew a guy obsessed with lolicon once.  He wasn't that good of a person.

(He kept bragging about his 3.17 GBs of it  :( )

I'm a pretty open minded person when it comes to sexuality(I'm a borderline furry for God's sake) but I think that would be my limit and the point I'd say "either we never mention this again and pretend this conversation never happened or go our separate ways"

I mean dear lord, just having that fetish is bad enough but hoarding 3GB of porn of it is just something else all together. That could be like 2000 images(or even far more depending on the file sizes)

I dislike the overanalysis that people like Digibrony do anyways, so I don't mind in the slightest that he's leaving. And if anyone tries to say he's "depriving us of a great analytic", then you need to get your head examined. Its a fandom, and it was a hobby of his. Interests change, and nobody can force him to do something he doesn't want to anymore. Let him do what he wants to.

Although I never did like how lots of people in this fandom let people like Digibrony decide whether they liked the episode or not for them.

I was acquainted with some of his work but didn't know too much about him to form a proper opinion.

Personally I tend to over analyze things myself and some of the things in the show drive me crazy.

Recently however, I have learned to just watch the show at face value and am just openly getting involved in the fandom.

Though it is sad to see him leave, he is entitled to his own opinions and choice making.

By know, I mean he's a friend of a friend (Somehow).  I met him when a bunch of people got invited to a sleepover and he spent like half the time sitting in a corner browsing his "collection" and showed it to anyone who did not believe him.

I respect the guy's choice, if he wants to quit the fandom, fine it's his own choice. Maybe it's something personal, the fandom is really messing with his real life, maybe he's even having trouble with finding a job or something. (or does he live of youtube? I don't know much about it)

The way he's doing it, is perculiar, but maybe he wants to stop fans to send him so many messages.

To put it simply, he's a great analist, and it may be dissapointing or even painful for many. But I personally don't give a shit.

One down, 100x fun killers to go!

Let the show be a show, and let your heart be the review. Stop filling my youtube with YOUR thoughts and then tell me they reflect MINE!

If he does leave, can I take his subscribers?

(just kidding.  But seriously, I have a review channel with less than 50 subs.)

While I'm not anywhere near his league in popularity, I can understand why he needs to do this.  At some point, this kind of thing may start to feel less like a hobby and more like an obligation.  If he feels the need to tune out, than all the power to him.
