Should Rainbow Power still be a thing in season 5?

Well, Rainbow Power is canon.  We all know the problems.  Those designs are stupid, they gave up one Dues ex Magica for another, and there seem to be no rules with this stuff.

 

The question is, should they keep the Rainbow Power?  Or should it be written out of the show?  Let's assume either would be done in the most graceful fashion.

This would be too easy, they can beat anyone with it.

And just look at Fluttershy or Rarity, they're awful like that.

I feel like Season 5 really needs a more down to earth villain that is a problem in non-action-y ways or more of an existential force; otherwise, it'll just be trying to one-up itself and it'll get comical.

 

Also, the designs are bad.

I don't see why not. They're essentially the same as the EoH in terms of power, and would probably be used just as much as the EoH were in the first 2 seasons and the gap between season 2 and season 4

 

Thing I like about Rainbow Power is less expectations. People grew to think that they mane 6 had to live up to their elements 24/7, and, if they didn't, they were tossed to the wolves. Keep in mind, though, that if they did, they'd pretty much be Mary-Sues and that'd make the show uninteresting.

If they could somehow use the Rainbow Power without the Super Saiyan transformations... maybe.

 

Because let's face it, those designs aren't the best. The only one I even kind of like is Twilight's.

 

If they're to be used like the Elements of Harmony were, yeah, I think I'd be for it... again, if the whole transformation thing is a one-time trip. I mean, please.

I think I'd prefer that rainbow powers stay gone. Maybe they can have the ponies beat a villain without some kind of transformation next time.

I do not see a true issue with the transformations at all; they are the same ponies underneath the skin. In regards to the actual power involved, it seems to be similar if not only slightly more than the Elements of Harmony, bearing in mind:

• The Elements encased and imprisoned Discord twice, simultaneously reversing his magic both times. The Elements freed him once as well.
• The Elements were used to grant a portal to a void in S3 finale, which is also the key point in which Twilight ascends to Alicornhood.
• The Elements freed Luna from her Nightmare form, shattering otherwise impenetrable armor. In addition, Celestia used them to imprison Nightmare Moon in the moon for one thousand years.

Rainbow Power did pretty much the same thing as the Elements did with Discord, defeating Tirek and imprisoning him in Tartarus once more while reversing most of what damage he had done to the world (Golden Oaks Library is still a burned stump).

 

I just see this as the new Elements, plus an added visual effect. Besides, the designs are not that bad; they show who each of them truly is in the inside.

I'm pretty sure the writers will elaborate on the whole power in Season 5.

I remember that Cadance wasn't even called a ruler of the Crystal Empire untill Equestria Girls.

The whole "Behold! The Crystal Princess" was kinda vague since they never reference that line again. And then you also see Shining and Cadance go to the train station with M6. So what gives? Were they staying or not?

Seems like all MLP villains are going to be defeated in a deus ex magica kind of way. Only so much you can do with a TV-Y. That's the way I see it. As we've seen from the S2 premier, S2 finale, S3 premier, S4 premier and finale, it all comes down to how they get to that point. S1 premier's build-up was pretty darned corny

 

All said, Rainbow Power could return as long as its role is well-placed and well-executed. But in the end... Not going to matter to me. Like in all the other cases, it's the execution that mattered. Likewise, it's the execution that's going to matter. Whether or not Rainbow Power is involved doesn't.

They can stay, but only if they fix those designs. I liked the promotional images way more than the actual designs in the show. Rarity and Fluttershy look awful, and Rarity originally looked best in her rainbow power design.

I don't mind the design choice for the Rainbow Powers, nor do I really care if they keep them or not. As long as they don't constantly use them.

 

I'll be honest, It got a little annoying in Season three when they constantly had the elements for every problem. I guess the episode where they reform Discord might be clouding my memory since they need them to turn him into stone. I don't remember

Well, I don't really like the rainbow power designs all that much, but I don't mind the concept. As long as the mane 6 aren't going rainbow mode every episode, i'm cool with it.

Then how about we use some colors that actually go with the character's natural color scheme.

• Rainbow Dash is fine.
• Applejack is okay, but would look better with ultramarine or liberty instead of pink.
• Rarity should have resolution blue and goldenrod.
• Pinkie would look much better with avocado, melon, and cyber yellow.
• Fluttershy is a little tough; but vivid violet, lavender, and Islamic green should do.
• Twilight could use munshell instead of white.
