  1. My headcanon is that Derpy got her cutie mark after mixing vinegar and baking soda, and discovered her talent is chemistry. She works as a mailmare to pay her way through university and get her doctorate someday soon.
  2. voted for Vinyl purely because she hung out with Pinkie and let her DJ at the big wedding. don't agree with this whole 'classical vs. dubstep' thing, music is music guys, my headcanon is that Octavia is a talented studio musician who's played for all genres.
  3. No, I think you're on to something here. Assuming there is only one universe, and reality isn't splitting off into an infinite number of different timelines (and I think multiverse theory is a little too deep for a kids' show) then reality has to be self-regulating to avoid paradoxes. And that puts a limit on the flow of information. Disaster-Twilight can't go back to warn herself about the disaster because then Disaster-Twilight wouldn't exist, which would mean no warning was sent, which is a paradox. Whatever message Twilight sends back HAS to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, otherwise the timeline is broken. And if Cerberus getting loose leads directly to Twilight going back in time and creating a paradox, the ONLY way to resolve the paradox is for Twilight to send back a message that prepares her for Cerberus AND leads to her going back in time to deliver the message! It's not just a random timeline we're seeing, it is the ONLY timeline, at least the only stable one!
  4. I liked Just For Sidekicks and Spike At Your Service better than Games Ponies Play, which seems to be an unpopular opinion. (I don't understand the hate on Just For Sidekicks. I mean, the title is literally telling you 'don't take this episode seriously, relax and have a fun time'. Spike is a good slapstick character. The Mane 6 aren't, which is why Games Ponies Play failed to do what Sidekicks did right.) I also like The Crystal Empire way better than A Canterlot Wedding. Check the latter's thread for why I don't like it. Crystal Empire took everything that was wrong with the S2 finale and fixed it. Intense atmosphere building to a suitable climax. A villain that's actually smart and really scary. Heroes that help defeat the villain instead of just hanging around. And great foreshadowing for the finale. Feeling Pinkie Keen and The Cutie Pox are among my most disliked episodes as well. They seem half-baked to me, a few gags are funny, but overall they have nonsensical, forced plotlines and a seemingly random aesop. It's just plain bad writing, like they ran out of time and only delivered part of a script.
  5. I didn't mean she WAS bullying her, but she was being very rough when Fluttershy clearly didn't want to get out of bed. If we didn't know how close those two were, and that that's just how Rainbow shows affection, it could be misinterpreted as nastiness.
  6. Personally, I don't think the show's dependent on having the Mane 6 as the lead characters. It would be nice if the CMC got their cutie marks and the show focused on them, with the Mane 6 having cameos and the occasional episode. Really, at this point they've expanded on their characters so much there's not much left to show us. I say let them move on with their lives. They don't need to be together constantly for the show to be entertaining.
  7. this is the main reason 'One Bad Apple' is my favourite episode from season 3. none of that is explicitly stated, but it showed that violence is a cycle, and you either break it or carry it on
  8. I thought about this when I first watched it, but wasn't Luna on the balcony watching over the night and doing her royal duties and stuff while Twilight saw Chrysalis mess with Shining Armor's mind?
  9. my first thought was 'cool, they're not afraid to make changes and develop the characters'. I think anyone getting upset about this is taking it too seriously anything can happen in the S4 opening ANYTHING if you don't like what they've done so far, fine, but don't try to make predictions on future content based on this, especially since we know very little about alicorns then again I liked Mass Effect 3's ending so maybe I'm just weird
  10. I'm just glad she's finally getting the recognition she deserves for having saved the world countless times. And seeing as how princesses in this world apparently take random foalsitting jobs, I don't think it's going to upset the power dynamics of the show.
  11. Applebuck Season Putting Your Hoof Down Sweet and Elite A Friend In Deed Read It and Weep Boast Busters are the first that come to mind, those episodes showcased each of their personalities without really changing them or making them crazy
  12. How many times have you watched Citizen Kane? I think it's one too many.
  13. this was a pretty good story. Well-written, good concept, could've had more D'AWW moments with Dashie, but all in all a really good fic.
  14. yeah, but for some reason it's the rule 34ers and the in-your-face toleraters that form the public image of bronies. maybe it's just a matter of time, trekkies used to be seen as total weirdos too. Now you're weird if you don't know anything about Star Trek.
  15. Easy Rule: if you have ever said 'anypony' on a non-pony site, then yes you are part of the problem. Also, don't use 'love and tolerate' as passive-aggressive trolling, that just makes you an asshole.
  16. Frist half was fantastic. Second half had some flaws but all in all it was a great season. Two episodes I didn't like (SayS & GPP) but the fantastic opening made up for it.
  17. When watching SSCS6000, I thought it was odd that Rainbow went out of her way to wake up Fluttershy, and bring her to the cider line. Then later I saw Putting Your Hoof Down, particularly how Fluttershy has trouble in line-ups and gets bullied out of her place constantly. Now think about how she'd do in the cider line without her friends. It may just be coincidence, but I found it very sweet that Rainbow would go out of her way and risk something as important to her as an early place in the line just to bring Fluttershy and make sure she gets some cider as well. Particularly so since at first it seems that Rainbow's bullying Fluttershy.
  18. also, yes, Snips and Snails are unbearable. Especially since they were some of the first male characters you see on the show. I'm fine with an all-female main cast, it's great, but do you have to paint the few males as cowardly, weak, morons? These guys suck the life out of any episode they're in. dunno why Derpy's considered offensive but not those two
  19. Gilda. Awful, flat, uninteresting antagonist. No idea why people like her. Scootaloo. She was OK in Sleepless in Ponyville, but she's still dull and underdeveloped compared to the other CMC. She was clearly just created to fill the 'tomboy' role.
  20. Why I didn't like this episode: 1. Since when is Applejack a caterer? I thought Canterlot ponies hated her food. 2. What bride leaves the design of her wedding dress untouched until a couple days before the wedding? 3. Boring musical number that doesn't move the story along about a misunderstanding that gets cleared up immediately afterwards with no lasting effects. Could've been used to establish an actual character for Shining Armor beyond "we used to be really close but now I guess not". 4. How did they get past the force field? Did Shining Armor open it? If so, why wasn't he there to greet them right away? Does he just open the force field for all the trains? Then why didn't the changelings just hide on a train? 5. A public threat is made against Canterlot, and Celestia brings the Mane 6 to Canterlot without giving them the Elements of Harmony, aka the most powerful weapon at their disposal? 6. The captain of the Royal Guard can't dictate a letter? 7. Cadence was Twilight's only non-family friend before coming to Ponyville, and she doesn't know her full name or the fact that she's a princess. 8. A princess foalsat for Twilight before she had her cutie mark, aka before she met Celestia and became important in any way. Later dialogue indicates Cadence did this for other kids. Is this normal for princesses? Just take random jobs until they're old enough to rule? 9. Where are Twilight and Shining Armor's parents in all this? Surely they'd remember Cadence and confirm that something's up? 10. Twilight grows suspicious of Cadence because she hides her true feelings to Applejack, saying everything's fine when it's not. She also grows suspicious of Cadence for being too hard on Rarity, demanding perfection. Make up your mind. Either lying is bad or being critical is bad. There is literally nothing Cadence can do that would please Twilight, which would be fine if the show bothered to distinguish between real reasons to distrust Cadence (not remembering Twilight) against Twilight's insecurities. 11. Pointless Luna cameo is pointless. 12. Twilight focuses on meaningless stuff instead of the one true sign that something's wrong: Cadence didn't recognize her. 13. Other Mane 5 don't even try to understand Twilight. Spike couldn't care less about his emotionally unstable best friend trying to tell him something important to her. 14. Chrysalis knows Twilight's right there, and yet chooses that precise moment to reveal herself and brainwash Shining Armor over something as stupid as his clothing. 15. OK, so what exactly happened to the bridesmaids anyway? Why couldn't they be in the wedding? 16. In the previous episode, Twilight showed herself to be a competent detective capable of gathering evidence and using said evidence to build a logical case. Here, she completely loses it, breaking up the rehearsal, making somepony cry, and acting smug about it. Seriously Twilight, what did you think was going to happen? 17. Nopony remembers Lesson Zero and everyone turns their backs on Twilight. Either she's right or she's lost it and needs a friend more than ever. You'd think the other Mane 5 would at least try to get Twilight to snap out of it. These are the same ponies that risked Celestia's wrath to defend Twilight when she needed it, yet making a mess of a rehearsal is unforgivable. 18. Chrysalis chooses to attack Twilight, thus confirming her suspicions after it's been shown nopony believes her, right as Twilight gives up her crusade. 19. Chrysalis does not kill Twilight. She doesn't even try to restrain her. 20. Cadence could clearly hear Twilight and Chrysalis' loudly shouted dialogue from behind that rock, yet makes no noise until Twilight lucks out and finds her. 21. Cadence is neither dead nor restrained in any way. 22. Another pointless musical number that neither moves the plot along or tells us anything we don't already know. 23. Cadence and Twilight find their way out of the cave without getting lost. 24. Oh here are the bridesmaids. Wait. Are they changelings, or brainwashed? Either way, why are they guarding the cave instead of being in the wedding? Chrysalis must have sent them there after capturing Cadence, but before capturing Twilight. Why? 25. Celestia doesn't not immediately zap Chrysalis, even though Chrysalis gives a huge monologue with her back to Celestia. 26. Why didn't anypony see the massive horde of ugly black hellspawn hanging outside the shield? 27. Chrysalis' plan makes no sense. Presumably she was responsible for the original threat against Canterlot, so that Shining Armor would be stressed and it would be easier to control him. But how could she predict that the Princesses' reaction would be to have Shining Armor make a huge shield bubble around Canterlot? And why not sneak in your changeling army before he makes the shield? It'd be easy. They're changelings. The only excuse Chrysalis has for not having her changeling army on hand is if she didn't know Shining Armor would make the shield. But then who sent the threat? And why was she in Canterlot when the shield came up? 28. Celestia does more talking than fighting. Chrysalis could've killed the entire wedding party before she reacted. 29. Chrysalis allows the Mane 6 to leave for the Elements of Harmony. Doesn't even try to stop them, despite the Elements being capable of defeating Nightmare Moon, another villain stronger than Celestia. "Secure the Elements of Harmony" was the first item on both Nightmare Moon's and Discord's to-do list, and for good reason. Chrysalis doesn't give a crap. 30. Rainbow Dash could've flown to the throne room, retrieved the Elements, done a sonic rainboom for the hell of it, grabbed some beer and pizza, and returned to hand out the Elements in the time it takes for the Mane 6 to get to the throne room. 31. Since when can Rarity hold her own in a fight? 32. A large group of changelings outside is no problem. A relatively small band of changelings standing between the Mane 6 and the Elements is too dangerous to even attempt. 34. Why isn't Twilight doing any interesting spells? She could at least teleport past the changelings to the Elements. You know, like she did in the very first episode against a far more powerful foe than a group of mooks? Why can't she replicate a miniature version of Shining Armor's spell? If Shining Armor is powerful enough to repel the entire army from Canterlot, Twilight should at least be able to keep a room clear. 35. Well, at least Chrysalis bothered to properly secure Celestia. Sadly, this just begs the question of why she didn't do that to Twilight and Cadence in the cave. 36. Wait, why is Spike there? All the guests are gone. Spike's just chilling next to Cadence. Was he in the wedding party? Why? Why is Cadence glued in place, but Spike isn't? He's not even trying to free Cadence or Celestia. He has a tail that works like a jackhammer but he can't smash through Celestia's chrysalis thing? 37. Chrysalis doesn't bother to secure the Mane 6, not even with Cadence's little glue thing. 38. Oh no. Chrysalis sealed the door. If only the Mane 6 had someone able to smash through a window and fly through it. 39. Twilight frees Cadence and doesn't try to free Celestia. Spike and the other Mane 5 presumably are playing chess right now. 40. Cadence's love spell: curing brainwashing with more brainwashing. 41. Chrysalis laughs at Cadence using the same power she used to defeat Celestia. And turns her back without securing either Cadence or Shining Armor. 42. Shining Armor ejects all the changelings from Canterlot with one spell. Only changelings. And they don't get stuck on any buildings. 43. Is anyone else worried that there's a nearly unstoppable army headed by a demi-god loose in Equestria? 44. After being completely useless the entire episode, the rest of the main cast throw a party, make a dress, cook food, and talk to birds. You know, do the same stuff they do every single day of their lives. The magic of friendship, everyone. 45. Why are the Cutie Mark Crusaders in Canterlot, let alone the wedding party? Cadence doesn't know them. Celestia doesn't even know them. 46. Cadence doesn't wear her veil over her head, sadly proving that a 20 year old unmarried male knows more about weddings than this royal bride. 47. Applejack's Discord face thrown in for no reason other than to remind us of a far better two-part major villain episode. 48. How do non-unicorns get married? Do they just not have rings? Why don't we ever see Cadence and Shining Armor with the rings again? 49. Entire population of Canterlot is there for the wedding, and not, you know, repairing the massive damage wrought by an invading army. 50. Luna, go away. You're useless. 51. This isn't even the same room Pinkie was showing all her reception plans off in. 52. Oh hey Spike. You managed to be even more useless than Luna, good job. 53. Why aren't the other Mane 5 there to catch the bouquet? Who are the mares Rarity knocks over? Were they bridesmaids as well? 54. Ha, Spike didn't do the bachelor party when he was supposed to. Wait. Shining Armor didn't have a bachelor party? And none of his friends noticed that was odd? Spike was supposed to be planning this party but he didn't notice anything odd about Shining Armor? I know Spike's lazy, but he doesn't even try to do his job for a royal wedding? Besides, what are bachelor party jokes doing in a kids' show? I'm sure that create any awkward family conversations.
  21. 1. Twilight Sparkle. Mage/Healer, check. 2. Shining Armor. Paladin Jack-of-all-Trades backup, check. 3. Sweetie Belle. CHAR-based diplomat, check. 4. Filthy Rich. Gold income, check. 5. Royal Guard. Tank, check. 6. Little Strongheart. Rogue, check. All set. This party's unstoppable.
  22. C'mon guys. Spike is braver, stronger, a better friend, and is far, far more adorable than Derpy. THAT FACE. HOW CAN YOU SAY NO? SO CUTE.
  23. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but the theory doesn't hold up. Diamond Dogs don't have hooves, they have paws, and they can talk. Admittedly not very well, but you can hold a conversation with them.
  24. Either: a) It's not Fluttershy's colour because she hates the attention on her, it makes her look good but it's not who she is. Rarity wants the attention Fluttershy is getting, but she can't have it, green isn't her colour, it's Fluttershy's. c) Feeling green means feeling jealous, Rarity goes mad with jealousy even though she knows she shouldn't be feeling that way towards a friend. Pretty good title when you think about it, works on a few levels. This is probably one of my top 5 episodes. Just about flawless really, the main plot with Rarity and Fluttershy is good, the sideplot with Twilight and Pinkie is hilarious, and PHOTO FEENISH IS ZE BEST CHARACTEAR TO APPEAR ON ZE SHOW.
  25. Am I the only one who thinks a CMC spin-off would've been a far better choice than this 'Equestria Girls' crap? Eh, maybe not, S3 did a good job of integrating their adventures with other characters (SiP, JfS). Still, I get the feeling they're part of a different show.
