So, based on this image it looks like the mane seven might be getting visual updates for the youtube series (or at least the Original 5 prior to Sci-twi and sunset might); What's everyone's thoughts on that if so, and what's your thoughts on pinkie's design here? Going to be honest, not really a big fan of the new look here: the skirt's multiple frills just looks like a ballet outfit more than an actual outfit to me.

Is Starlight going to be an alicorn?
Unlikeable Pony replied to Skyethepony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
>image I think we both know that hasbro will keep adding alicorns so long as they think they can keep getting more toys out of it that being said, I think that if they were to add more alicorns in the future it'd be a "hidden" or "lost" alicorn from the past that returns rather than a pre-existing character ascending (a totally new character as an alicorn will probably sell more toys than an old one turning into an alicorn after all)-- probably something like that original plot script for the movie which looked to have alot of alicorns from the past as the central premise. -
Is Starlight going to be an alicorn?
Unlikeable Pony replied to Skyethepony's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
They are all connected to the EOH however; that's a far more valid reason for a person becoming an alicorn than just "has strong magic" (and has more precedent in the show, since the only other 2 beings to use the EOH that we know of were alicorns, and twilight becoming an alicorn had her get nuked by the EOH). Now, that being said, I'm pretty sure the chances for ANY of the other 5 becoming alicorns is sitting at roughly a .000000001% right now, but their connection to the EOH is a hell of a lot better a reason than just how hard can a pony shoot lasers or whatnot out their horns. Starlight having a poor reason to exist in the show doesn't mean she should be made an alicorn As for what Starlight specifically could do with her life, she could simply become the mayor of her town again, or simply become a magical teacher herself (celestia's university is run by normal unicorns after all). As to WHY she was taught by twilight, it acts as a springboard for showing twilight advancing to become a teacher much like celestia herself, and getting into the groove of passing down her lessons to others (much like how celestia has a university for passing down her wisdom) -

Eh, I wouldn't go that far for the siege arc. I enjoyed it overall, but I do find that many of its complaints ARE valid (the legion of doom part being utterly pointless, and the "Becomes a real boy" ending being very sugary)-- I still find it to be an enjoyable arc, but I wouldn't dismiss its detractors that easily.

Isn't putting the Pony of shadows in here a bit premature? I mean, we won't know who he/she IS until the finale (or possibly Issue 7 of the LOM comics) till then XD speaking of comics, I hope Issue seven Gives the sirens something ELSE they did that was evil or even retcons their fiendship as an acid trip of Starswirls, given how utterly HORRIBLE that one was; I mean, they didn't even do anything truly EVIL-- everyone seemed to be having a good time listening to them sing and it WAS a concert. I mean, you kind of fail as a villain when you're defeated in your first appearance by having people say mean things to you till you p*** off. That's weird, most responses to the Sombra Fiendship comic I've seen are almost always positive :/ the Siege plotline people tend to pick apart, but the Fiendship comic alone is generally seen as pretty good I thought.

Spike being absent this season.
Unlikeable Pony replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Spike and starlight often play redundant roles to each other; Starlight usually acts as twilight's magical assistant in situations (Spike would have seamlessly worked in starlight's place yesterday in pretty much every situation), and when she's around it kind of gets rid of the need to have Spike around for twilight to monologue her ideas to. its kind of like why I don't want Sunset in FIM (Sunset and pony twilight would then become redundant with EACH OTHER), you generally want to avoid making characters step on each others toes in group chemistry. -

Original "Fame and Misfortune" Script Speculation
Unlikeable Pony replied to KH7672's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Pretty much the main reason I can see is that the writers were trying to push her in the episode as a friend of the mane six and show fans how she is actually interacting with them as a friend and not just a plot device-- all criticism that has been levied against her in comparison to Sunset's chemistry with the human six. I would rather have had spike, but I can understand the writers seeing this as an opportunity to try and build her as a character with an actual relationship to the six. (I think they FAILED at that since her interactions were basically all offscreen, being a "I'll stay with them" and then cuts away, but I see the effort.) -
Too much slice of life.
Unlikeable Pony replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Agreed about there being a bit too little Adventure for my tastes. I have no issue with Slice of life as many of the best episodes have been slice of life-- but at the same time, variety is the slice of life, and I'm a huge sucker for Magical girl stuff. The Fact that the two episodes of the show promised more magical girl shenanigans is one of the big reasons why I decided to give the show a watch after all. Its also kind of funny how adventure episodes seem to have hit an all time low this season, given how they have the GOH series they're trying to sell with a big focus on action and fighting. One thing though, if they were to want to do adventure episodes, they'd have to actually *get serious* about not reforming everyone-- for adventure scenarios to thrive you need recurring antagonists and need to accept that NOT EVERYONE SHOULD BE BEFRIENDED (Which is actually faust's original idea for alot of the show given how she made Griffon the brush off to show that you can't just befriend everyone and how she described trixie in far more dangerous/antagonistic terms than one would think of for her now). Keep the good antagonists evil or petty, and don't turn everyone into a friend (LOOKING AT YOU CHANGELINGS) -
"Fame & Misfortune" Review/Rant
Unlikeable Pony replied to Ranky64's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Honestly, I just found the episode boring myself. I Do think its a bit meanspirited, but that's not really the big issue for me, as I can laugh at alot of the jokes in it like "Fluttershy learns the same lesson everytime!". Its more that I just found it to drag on without a whole lot to reccomend it except "INSIDE JOKE, INSIDE JOKE, INSIDE JOKE", and not even really good inside jokes (like in stranger than fan fiction). It just felt like a less inspired version of Slice of life. the only part I really found kind of bad was that the end didn't really seem to have much of a moral besides "forget the adult fans, its the little girl fans who get things", which I think is a major cop out, and sends the message of "REAL FANS DON'T COMPLAIN!" which is a S****Y argument that I've never agreed with. Its about a 6/10 for me, the only thing I truly loved in it was Rarity. Good LORD rarity was great in this episode; every single scene with her was perfect, and this episode just makes me want to see more of her-- her trying to measure Fluttershy and fluttershy's angry response was by far the best part of the episode.- 48 replies

Actually not surprising about the emoji movie; Sony pictures was absolutely hellbent on seeing it succeed, so they pulled out all the marketing stops they could think of to make sure it turned a profit; the review embargo for example to make sure people couldn't find out how crappy it was from reviews before going to see it. Combined with their aggressive advertisement of it, its actually doing decently, if not being a smash hit; its sales are exceeding its budget a decent bit, so its at least paying for itself, to say nothing of the merchandise tie ins-- If a studio WANTS to see a kids movie succeed, and can get the higher ups behind it unquestioningly, it usually can make it succeed just by drilling previews into little kids heads.

Kind of wondering here, this twitter here implies that Haber isn't back until S8 since it seems to say he's not in charge for S7. Kind of hoping its true, I'd be way more hyped for the finale if it turned out to be lewis and songco and not haber writing it. Nah to the tirek thing, I remember that being a fan theory, but to my knowledge that was jossed by the staff in a tweet at some point. (I seem to remember a tweet being made about it, I Hope my memories not playing tricks on me there >.<) -

Going to be honest, I figure they're in "Standby mode" right now until they can gauge the reception of the theatrical movie, so I wouldn't expect much. I figure the Youtube shorts will be done "Safely", which is to say simple slice of life style 5 minute things like the summertime shorts and music videos, rather than actually building anything. Basically there as a stop gap measure to phone things inKeep some content flowing to avoid things being forgotten about for the next 6 months or so; if the theatrical movie is a major success, they'll start actually doing more world building and spinning some more stories revolving around magic in their world and the point of their abilities, and if the movie flops they'll re-evaluate how they want to do MLP in general. (as for "but the movie's not EQG!", yes, but FIM and EQG are pretty closely linked as siamese twins-- Enthusiasm for one tends to lead to enthusiasm for the other in toy sales)

Agreed. really don't feel like haber *cares* about FIM either. He jumped to skylanders the second he got that opportunity, and his tweets about "winging it" on lore and pre-established facts in the world or whatnot just give off an air of not really caring (Compare to larson stating that writers have a responsibility to watch all previous episodes and keep 100% up to date on lore for whatever they're writing) -
At the same time, there is a very good REASON for that; the time is a very bad time to be releasing family/kids movies. There's no holidays for kids to be off school and out with families, school's still in session so the mid day matinees are going to be empty, and fall in general isn't a very good time for movies to be released. They don't have much competition, but about the only time where they can expect alot of people going to see it are on Friday nights (school's out and the weekend's starting, so parents will take the kids out as a celebration) and the weekends (kids out of school, duh :p). Mid days in the week are going to be fighting an uphill battle--- the only people going to see the midday showings Mon-Thur will be the adult fans and parents with Pre-kindergarteners, so they better hope they turn out.

Is Tempest Shadow 'not' the antagonist?
Unlikeable Pony replied to Allen's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
Agreed. That being said, its kind of why we have the storm king; that way they can have their cake and eat it too by having a lesser villain get redeemed and a Major villain who stays evil all throughout. that being said, given how much screen presence she has, I'm a bit worried it'll feel hollow if they don't have storm king established enough as THE villain of the movie. Agreed 100%; I wish they'd leave more characters as recurring villains. A Redemption here and there is okay, but when EVERYONE becomes redeemed, it really ruins the impact of characters pulling heel face turns (and cuts into the deck of antagonists you can use). I really hope they don't touch Lightning dust or Tirek with the redemption stick >.<
