science What are your views on alien life forms?
Jordan D replied to Luna's Admirer's topic in General Discussion
I've been an alien enthusiast since a young age. I love to watch Alien documentaries on TV, though given how cash-crabby, attention hogging and unreliable the greater Alien/UFO community has gotten recently, I've been retreating from it. Still, I'm a huuuuge Alien nerd, especially for Gray/Zeta-Reticulan aliens. I love reading about older incidents, from the 20s-70s, they're typically far more fascinating than modern incidents I know most of it is bunkus, but I love the urban legends and paranormal nature surrounding the lore, you know? As for the question in the OP, I do think aliens have religion. I believe religion, or spiritualism is simply a natural thing for most intelligent species to begin to practice, aliens included.I always found the idea of alien religion to be utterly fascinating, by the way, even if most media depictions of it tend to boil down to generic elder-god stuff.- 91 replies

Iused to think my Teddy Bear would generate a forcefield around me that would keep me from being abducted by Satan or Demons (yeah...), that escalators were portals to hell and I used to by into all the hype and, for lack of a better term, mythical aspects in Pro-Wrestling, like that Kane actually was from Hell and that the Undertaker was a zombie.

Have you ever had to heed nature's call in the woods?
Jordan D replied to FeatherDataReborn's topic in General Discussion
Growing up in the mountains, using the bathroom in the woods was just apart of my life back then. Granted, I never did number 2. -
Oldest Video Game that you own / have owned.
Jordan D replied to Cash In's topic in Media Discussion
Mario Land on GameBoy (1989). It was a gift from my Grandma a few years back. Not sure if it counts, but I have a Pac-Man plug'n'play system which runs the original Pac-Man somewhere. -
They addressed that in the comics. Fiendship is Magic #1 and Siege of the Crystal Empire dealt with that plot point. As for the OP. Recently they shifted focus with the CMC and a lot of current CMC material seems to be based around urban-style adventures with mystery solving stuff, I guess because the "Ponyville Mysteries" books were popular. They did sort of readdress Sweetie's naturally whimsical personality in "Surf And/Or Turf", but Apple Bloom's potion making character arc seems to be forgotten for good.

Where is Abyssinia Located
Jordan D replied to TheZorotlThing's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
A few comics and a gamebook, yes. My sources were: The Movie Prequel #1-3: Storm King, Captain Celaeno and the Pirates and Capper of Klugetown. Most relevant information comes here. The map in the OP comes from issue 1 and has been retconned hard, but some information still holds true. Friendship is Magic #61-62: Convocations of the Creatures. The fact that Abyssinia survived the invasion comes here. Tails of Equestria: The Official Movie Sourcebook, information regarding Capper's "official" species comes here and some lore regarding other people of Cappers species is explored somewhat. Brief mentions of Abyssinia and Panthera but not much else. Friendship is Magic #43: Ponies of Dark Water - Part I, Applejack mentions that they were arrested in Abyssinia once before as they came back from another adventure in the land. Unfortunately, AFAIK, Klugetown has only appeared in those sources, at least by name, so it's all we have to go by. The place might appear in the "Beyond Equestria" series of books which are prequels and sequels to the movie but I haven't read any of them. -
gaming Favorite 'hubs' in video games
Jordan D replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Media Discussion
I really liked Sonic Adventure's HUB world too, felt like an actual adventure navigating it on my first playthrough. It was the small things that made me like it, like the train you got on to Mystic Ruins to the shops you could enter. -
gaming Cheapest/Worst Boss Fights!
Jordan D replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Media Discussion
The Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth series has some fantastic bosses...but it also has some downright awful bosses. Here's just a few: Cyber Sleuth bosses: First JimiKENS fight: For better or worse, JimiKENS was the wake up call to most players that said "hey, this game is pretty cheap sometimes". After a 30 minute long cutscene, Jmmy assaults you with 3 powerful Digimon. There's no build up, no indication that a fight is coming up, nothing. Just bam! Super hard boss out of nowhere that most people didn't see coming that wiped them out. Humanoid Eater: He doesn't have anything horrible per say, but his defense and HP are ludicrously higher than anything before and after. It's such a long fight that comes out of nowhere that many quit when they first fought him. BanchoLeomon: His gimmick is he demands a 1v1 fight. How is this communicated to the player? By an attack that one-shots any Digimon until you only have one left. After that, he's actually not to bad but the unexpected nature of it has made him a bit of a meme in the Digimon fanbase. Eater Adam/An Eater Called Arata: Unlike other bosses, this one was at least justified and built up to. Even in a weaker form, Arata was capable of one-shotting Gallantmon, so of course his full powered form should be nothing to sneeze at, and it was built up as one of the greatest bosses in the game, but still. Overkill. Mother Eater: Okay, I get it. The Mother Eater is this abomination beyond human comprehension that exists beyond God's Great Plan in a realm outside of space, time and earthly laws that merged itself with Yggdrasil; the God of Digimon. It SHOULD be a tough fight, but they went overboard. Its capable of one-shotting lv.99 Digimonand three-shotting defensive tanks with ease, and can buff itself to high heaven. It does make you feel like a badass though, with spells that destroy entire universes and skyscraper sized hands flying at you. Hackers Memory bosses: Hackers Memory paces its bosses way better, you know when a big boss is coming up, but sometimes you don't know just how bad a boss is gonna be. Lobomon & Agunimon: Holy crap I hated this boss. It ain't even really hard, just cheap. They constantly buff their own speed, evasion, attack and heal each other. They do like no damage, but avoid every hit and heal each other all the time. -
Where is Abyssinia Located
Jordan D replied to TheZorotlThing's topic in My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)
I know this is kind of old, but Abyssinia is supposed to be located somewhere in "The Mysterious South", which is supposed to be everything under the Bone Dry Desert. I think it's supposed to be close to Klugetown since the "Cat lords" (the species Capper, Chummer and the Abyssinian royal family belong to) are said to hail from Panthera, its capital city in The Official Movie Sourcebook. Otherwise, lore on Abyssinia is pretty vague. We know it survived its sacking by the Storm King since the king and queen appeared in Convocation of the Creatures, and Applejack mentions the Mane Six were arrested there once in Ponies of Dark Water (which predates the movie by 2 or so years). -
Has MLP:FiM experienced Seasonal Rot?
Jordan D replied to MangoFoalix's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I don't think so, no. The show has always been mixing up the status quo since season 3. Even though I prefer the older episodes, the new episodes are still fresh and fun. I love the new characters, the new settings, the new storylines. Even though I think they fail to capture the same sense of wonder season 1 had, they replace it with lots of new concepts that add their own charm. That said, I do think some parts of the show aren't as good as they used to be. Discord isn't as fun (even though I never really found him very fun to begin with, outside of the comics), and a few character dynamics don't really pack the same punch as they used too. I also preferred how world-building was handled in the first few seasons, when everyone just knew about basic concepts that were explained naturally through actions and events, rather than spoon-fed but otherwise I think the show is still fun. -
Hey there! The FiM fanbase is huge, so it's very versatile. There are people who practically embody the bad aspects of it but on the whole the community is very nice and friendly, especially these forums. I hope you enjoy your venture into the community. As for your question, here's a basic guide: The first season of FiM is where it all starts, so start there. Chronologically the first storyline is probably Legends of Magic but a lot of it wont make sense without watching at least the first two seasons. The manga series starts out during the events of Season 1 and ends on the night of the events of the finale of Season 2. The first two arcs of the comics take place after Season 2 but before Season 3. The other arcs are harder to gauge but arc 5 ("The Salty Sea Mare"/"My Little Pirate") takes place after Season 3. From then on, outside of a few arcs, most arcs are self-contained and can be read without viewing later seasons. The first Equestria Girls film takes place after Season 3, before Season 4. The first series of novels takes place roughly around this time too. The second can be watched right after it since the only baggage it carries is from the first film. As far as I ca tell, the other Equestria Girls films, specials, comics and series tends to be self-contained within its own universe with occasional nods to the FiM universe. The 2017 film takes place after Season 7 but before Season 8. It's referenced in the Convocations of the Creatures arc of the comics, lightly mentioned in the cartoon and the previous and next comic arcs heavily delve into it. It also got a prequel series that lasted 4 issues but it got retconned hard when the movie came out. Hope this helps answer your question. As for "filler", what would count as filler would vary from person to person. The show is primarily episodic but introduced long-term storytelling in Season 4 onward while the comics are arc-based affairs. A lot of episodes don't really "matter" in the long run but are still fun in there own ways.

We as a fandom need to stop freaking out. Fandom is NOT ending

Season 1 is highly underrated and I ind it to be incredibly enjoyable to this day. I prefer it over 2 and 4, but I understand why people like 2 and 4 more. I prefer the show when it's self-contained slice-of-life stories rather than the episode-to-episode storylines. Outside of a few like A Canterlot Wedding, I find most of them kind of dull. Season 3 wasn't really that bad, it just didn't have as solid of a good-to-bad episode track record as 2 but I think that was because of the limited amount of episodes rather than a dip in quality. I think Dragon Quest is actually pretty good and that a lot of the criticism comes from people looking to deep into the episode to find messages that aren't there. I don't think Garble's gang is supposed to represent "all guys" ad the ponies are "all girls", I just think Garble's gang represented a bunch of punks. No more, no less. I feel similarly about the film. I thought the film was fun and really don't get why people tried so hard to deconstruct it to find some "political agenda" in it. I wish people would read the "Extended Universe" material more often. Sure, most of it is pretty bad, but some of it is pretty radical. Guardians of Harmony, The Return of Queen Chrysalis, The Many Tales of Queen Chrysalis, Reflections, A Pinkie Pie Story That Pinkie Kinda Sorta Remembers, The Salty Sea Mare and the Bookworm arc are some of my favorite EU stories. Who doesn't want to see adult Spike thrashing the Changeling army or a Blueblood redemption story or Pinkie Pie becoming a ninja to thwart Queen Rainbow Dash? They can be tons of fun. Legends of Magic is possibly some of the best MLP material out there with a fun, long-form storyline and great characters. Not to spoil it, but the conclusion is just as epic as its introduction. I honestly found the first Equestria Girls film to be more enjoyable than the second and third. The second one had better music but I thought the story was weak and it felt more like a toy commercial at times. I know the whole series is about selling toys but I thought it was so, so much more blatant in Rainbow Rocks. I do on the whole enjoy EQG more than FIM though.

Does/did anyone you know serve in the military?
Jordan D replied to CandyCorn's topic in General Discussion
My dad was in the army in I think the late 70s to early 80s. His service was apparently mostly peaceful, he mostly just talks about all the food he ate and alcohol he drank in Germany. Two of my cousins (brothers on my dads side) served. The older one was a Navy chef but I think he retired after he had a son. Not sure what the first did. I'm also directly related to Banastre Tarleton on my mothers side but of course he's been dead for nearly 200 years -
movies/tv Have You Ever Seen Your City Destroyed In A Movie?
Jordan D replied to Denim&Venöm's topic in Media Discussion
Closest thing I think of is The Hunger Games being filmed near where my hometown is. North Carolina doesn't lend itself to exciting action movies sadly but we have a decent amount of low budget horror movies. -
The Many Tales of Queen Chrysalis more or less says the only reason why she uses "Queen" is because she thought it sounded nice after King Orion(?) called her a queen after she conquered his kingdom, or something like that. Equestria just has its own naming convention for royalty, other kingdoms have their own takes. Abyssinia, Thicket and Aquastria have Kings and Queens, Diamond Dogs have "Masters", Dragons have Lords and Equestria has Princesses. That's how I always interrupted it at least.

In real life, my sisters and dad call me "Bud". On the internet, a lot of my older friends call me D.A. or Anine, while most people just call me "Dark". My best friend tried calling me "Buggersome Boy" since I use all bug types in Pokemon meta but it never really took off.

There were some older episodes where they showed Equestrian writing, or at least older Equestrian to use a different alphabet, but that seems to be more or less retconned. Can't remember the last time they showed Equestrian literature but it appears to be mostly scribbles or Latin alphabet. Otherwise, I think they probably speak English with a handful of word swaps here and there. Convocation of the Creatures mentions a dead language called "Olde Equestrianne" that used to be spoken in Canterlot, for what that's worth.

What is the stupidest thing you have heard someone say?
Jordan D replied to Reecejackox's topic in General Discussion
Not something I've seen someone personally say, but I once came across an article called "John Lennon spotted in Hell" on a paranormal site and that is, to this day, the dumbest thing I think I ever saw. There's also my friend once asking me if Martian Manhunter was a Martian or not. I mean, come on... -

gaming Games you would like to see get a port on modern game systems
Jordan D replied to ElectronicGamerBrony's topic in Media Discussion
I would like to see Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne on PS4. Outside of Apocalypse it's the only mainline game I haven't played yet. It looks like a ton of fun too. I would also love to see modern remakes of Phantasy Star III: Generation of Doom and Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium since the first two games got PS2 remakes. I'm not the biggest fan of the third game, but it was still a really cool and impressive game in its own right, while IV is just amazing. Of course, given the brand is so strongly associated with the MMOs, I doubt we'll get remakes any time soon.- 30 replies

What room do you spend the most time in at home?
Jordan D replied to CandyCorn's topic in General Discussion
My room. My sister watches TV in the living room every day from 5 -11 PM (sometimes to 2 AM and yet complains that she has no spare time...) and gets really antsy when I leave my room or even use the bathroom so I pretty much stopped bothering leaving it after dinner. I mean I have enough stuff to keep me occupied and the most comfortable bed in the world but it is a bit irritating that getting a snack at 9 PM has to be a struggle, but I'll live. -
mega thread Why did you choose your avatar/profile pic?
Jordan D replied to ~Rule 63~ Lyeco's topic in General Discussion
I started playing Digimon Story: Hackers Memory again and remembered how much I loved the main character, Keisuke Amazawa so I used him as my avatar. My friends say "it really fits me", why a seemingly blank faced and emotionless guy fits me is beyond me but I like it anyway (Keisuke is actually a really good-natured, jovial and lighthearted guy, despite all promotional material and artwork making him look like a stoic anti-hero). -
general What things freak you out the most?
Jordan D replied to Sondash Studios's topic in General Discussion
I generally like all living things...except Wasps. Screw Wasps. Stairs and escalators always freak me out. Elevators too, but not as badly as escalators. Very few things made to be intentionally scary creep me out, it's almost always overly saccharine, children's stuff that get reactions out of me. Teletubbies for example used to creep me out but I got over it in the last few years. While they don't creep me per say out, Halloween is Grinch Night made me realize how effective Dr. Seuss's monster designs can be used for horror. I really want to see a horror movie done in his style.
