Why Are Bronies Disliked?

Ok now, here's my two cents. There are three basic forms of Bronies; Form A is the "In the closet" secret bronies. Form B is the Basic brony, loves the show and essentially lives like any other normal person. But then, there is the dreaded Form C or as I like to call them the Hipster Group or HGroup. Now HGroup are the people who give bronies a bad name, always talking about ponies trying to shove them down non-bronies throats. If you join a TF2 game no doubt there will be pony sprays, now, I enjoy them but  HGroup takes pride in the fact that they're different and they take that pride to a stupid level. Sadly the HGroup is the few but the loudest, they are the face of the fandom, as sad as it may be.

Say I wasn't a brony. I stumble across these children cartoon pictures in a game.

>dontpayitnonevermind.jpg

>suddenly loud guy noticed me glancing at the picture.

>timetohunt.png

>swoops in and with no prior information assumes I'm having a go at the picture.

>"Blah blah blah ponies blah blah blah"

>Is THIS a brony? Man screw bronies!

Death of a good first impression.

XD i've heard of mlp and then i've become a Brony thanks to Team fortress 2 ohmy.png

I think it's the standards that are set in our society where if you like something that no one else likes or if you're labeled as different, they will try to shun you completely. That could be why, if you ask me.

Because majority of people are naturally fearful of what they don't understand

They don't understand how a show such as MLP appeals to boys. Therefore they feebly attempt to understand and rationalize it by thinking those boys are socially abnormal or pedophiles or etc.

Well, I would think that the main reason would be that, people just want a reason to hate it, so they stick firmly to it's a girls show.

But of course, there are other reasons, like some parts of the fandom that do the most idiotic things towards other people, then they think that's what the rest of the fandom is like.

But there is a majority of the fandom that they haven't seen, which could have changed their views entirely.

I'll sum it up like this; society's favorite food nowadays is hatred towards each other. People can't accept others for what they like and dislike. Among these are bronies. People can't see others our age liking something based off of a little girl's toyline.

Freak

Spazz

Pedophile

We've been called them all.

But, like Scootalove said up there, people just can't accept the fact... that everyone's different. We're all a big community that may not like all of the same things, but we all enjoy one specific thing; MLP FIM. If we would all just accept each other for what we like and don't like, we wouldn't get so much hate. Until then, they'll shun us and call us these things I said above and more.

But, you know what? We'll get through it. We've gotten through it for 3-4 years. Maybe we can do it for another 3-4.

As said earlier, there are a lot of annoying fans of various fandoms. Ours is no exception. Many people shove ponies in everybody else's face. But a thing to add, it's also society's love to hate. Complexly, society likes to hate for pointless reasons. Like in our fandom:

Pedophilia (really?)

Homosexuality (really, guys?)

Mental Defectiveness (yet again, REALLY?)

I find it stupid its fine if they dont like the show but it doesn't give them the right to bully or insult us and ive learned that the hard way cause even my own family insults me and rejects me and that really annoys just becaus ethey dont like the show doesn't mean they can insult bronies.

I think it is kinda needless to look for reasons. Because if there is one thing that internet has taught me, it is that people hate or dislike everything. There are always some people like that.

Well generally any fandom receives hate simply for existing, however if your question is why does the brony fandom receive so much of it, I can give a few reasons handed to me from outsiders. First of all, I'm not a brony. I just like MLP. There is a distinct difference. Here are the reasons I have been told as to why people hate bronies and I think you will agree these are problems:

1. The obnoxious amount of porn. I know almost every brony combats this with "every fandom has porn", this is true, however not every fandom is for a show intended for little girls. It's more likely for little girls to stumble across MLP porn than say... Star Trek porn. The other issue is (and you'd be crazy to deny this) porn is glorified. I know not everyone is a "clopper" (which the fact that we need a specific name for people who look at the porn is a bad sign) but there are enough of them to where MLP is one of the most searched things on Rule 34. If you type in Rule 34 on Google, the first search result it suggests in MLP. If I recall, Rainbow Dash is the third most searched thing on all of Rule 34. On FiMFiction, every single day there are at least 2-3 sex fanfictions in the featured box. The staff had to modify the site so that other stories could stand a chance at getting into the featured box. When anyone comments on the excessive amount of porn that is even being pushed to go to more places, they are attacked. I worked for another MLP site for over a year and one constant problem is people wanted to push more and more to turn our site into a NSFW site.

The short version is: bronies seem to lack this inability to keep their sexual fetishes to themselves and there is a huge chunk of the fandom that is into that. At this point I am not even convinced they are the minority. On top of this, even if they are, they sure are pumping out a lot of content, and since bronies have this "love and tolerate" motto, they do nothing to stop it or control it. The problem is having a completely tolerant community does not go hand and hand with having a respected community. If you tolerate everything and never call people on their bullshit, you end up with this.

2. Bronies are too in your face about ponies. They ponify everything and try to convert people to the "herd". It's annoying, and I would be annoyed too. They feel the need to try and get every person they possibly can to join the fandom, and get upset when they don't.

3. They have a victim complex. Bronies constantly take people's disapproval of things they like as discrimination. It's insulting on so many levels. They do not know what discrimination is in the slightest. They pull up a few isolated cases of people being beaten up for liking MLP, but in reality, when's the last time bronies have been denied to vote? When were they treated like property? When's the last time they took a few bronies and hung them so the world could see? Never. They are no more "discriminated" than kids who like Star Trek talking to kids who don't like Star Trek. Not to mention a lot of their "hate" comes from their own actions. Many people I know are okay with the show and even people liking it, it's when they behave like bronies where the problem occurs.

4. They take liking a show too far. Having forums, fansites and art is all fine and good, but bronies for whatever reason do not feel that is enough. They feel that being a brony is a lifestyle when it's not. This is the same reason why furries get so much hatred, they can not keep themselves from making sure every person they interact with knows they are a furry. It should not come as often as it does. Liking MLP is just like liking Spongebob. I don't bring up how much I love Spongebob to every person I meet, only when it's relevant and even then I do not try to steer the conversation back to Spongebob. Bronies make it difficult for people who are not bronies to talk to them a lot of the time.

5. They flip the fuck out and lose their shit over everything. Most people troll them because they know bronies will react. Look at the recent Ask Molestia blog take down. Bronies are losing their shit over it, and people have sent death threats, petitions, and lots of whiny letters to the point where ED even has a page up on the incident. They all try and justify it with "oh we're fighting against censorship" or "oh we're fighting against abuse of copyright laws" but most of them don't even fully understand what those are and they are using those as cover ups to try and poorly hide the fact that they are ridiculously upset over the blog's take down just because they liked the blog.

Those are a few reasons, now I know not every brony is like this, but like it or not, these are the people who are speaking for you whether you want them to or not. If you don't like this supposed "minority" creating this image then drop your "love and tolerate" motto and do something about it. Do not tolerate stupid behavior. Do not respect people creating a bad image for the community.

Tell people to be respectful to people who don't watch the show and don't try to force them.

Tell people to keep their porn to the appropriate sites.

Call people out when they are acting ridiculous.

A good community comes with moderation.

Well, we're (mostly) late teenagers or adult men and women who are watching a show "meant" for little girls. I used to dismiss bronies as stupid neckbeards who are all cloppers (I specifically remember watching a Howard Stern segment which painted this picture exactly) until I decided to watch an episode out of bordem while browsing YouTube at 3 AM. I saw an MLP episode in the "related videos" section of a video I was watching. I thought it was decent at first but started to like it more as Season 2 progressed.

Anyways, point being that its easy to dislike MLP and its fans with the way its portrayed in the media and on the internet. Looking back at it, it was ignorant of me to assume so much about bronies when I hadn't even watched a single episode.

Who cares? You wanna clop, then clop. Lots of people clop, so you're going to see more clop. It's easier for a kid to stumble upon MLP porn than other kinds? That's not the bronie's problem, that's Google's/the site's problem. I don't see clop on sites where it isn't meant to be (except maybe on one or two rare occasions). Don't want to see it? Don't look at it. "Problem" solved.

That's only for certain people, and again its not really a big deal. Some people are passionate about what they like.

Many people I know are okay with the show and even people liking it, it's when they behave like bronies where the problem occurs.

In some places saying you like MLP will make people automatically assume you're a pedophile, gay, a loser, etc. It isn't fun to have something like that attached to you unfairly.

.4. They take liking a show too far. Having forums, fansites and art is all fine and good, but bronies for whatever reason do not feel that is enough. Bronies make it difficult for people who are not bronies to talk to them a lot of the time.

It can be a "lifestyle" if you want it to be. It varies from person to person. If I want to talk about MLP, I can talk about MLP. If I want to talk about Spongebob, I can talk about Spongebob. Don't tell people how to live their lives and how much they can enjoy a form of media like MLP.

If something is taken down unfairly, they're going to get called out for it, especially if it was something big like APM.

Who cares? You wanna clop, then clop. Lots of people clop, so you're going to see more clop.

I don't care what your whip your dick to, so long as it's not being pushed into my face all the time.

It's easier for a kid to stumble upon MLP porn than other kinds? That's not the bronie's problem, that's Google's/the site's problem.

Passing the blame from the people MAKING the porn to Google? That's typical brony fashion: blame someone else for a problem they created.

I don't see clop on sites where it isn't meant to be (except maybe on one or two rare occasions).

I have run a few sites, trust me bronies try to push for it to be allowed in more and more places.

Don't want to see it? Don't look at it. "Problem" solved.

Not quite. In theory it would work, but people are not tagging it appropriately, and a lot of places people force it on you. I have worked for a site designed for ages 13 and younger, and people post clop regardless of what the rules say. When we try to take it down they throw a hissy fit and use the "WE ARE THE TRUE FANBASE WHICH IS 18+" whether or not these people are the minority is irrelevant, these people are creating the negative image that bronies have because people are not standing up to them and telling them they need to behave.

That's only for certain people,

It's a lot more  than you'd think, and if you don't wish to do anything to discourage it, then don't complain when people don't like you for sharing the same label as those people.

In some places saying you like MLP will make people automatically assume you're a pedophile, gay, a loser, etc. It isn't fun to have something like that attached to you unfairly.

But you don't HAVE to be a brony. You can just like MLP. Also, what are bronies doing to discourage this image? Nothing. They just try to justify the stuff that people use to make these claims and write them off as "the minority" when they aren't even sure that's true. They also do not try to discourage people from the actions that make people think bronies are ass retarded. Playing the victim is not going to win any battles and it's certainly not going to change that image.

It can be a "lifestyle" if you want it to be.

True, but don't get upset when people criticize you for basing a lifestyle off of a TV show.

If I want to talk about MLP, I can talk about MLP. If I want to talk about Spongebob, I can talk about Spongebob.

Talking about =/= Lifestyle.

Don't tell people how to live their lives and how much they can enjoy a form of media like MLP.

I don't think you understand that when you associate yourself with something by choice, that it is fair game to criticize. I can not like you for things you do or things you choose to do because you chose to do them. Freedom of persecution, not criticism. That's what freedom of speech is. Bronies seem to love freedom of speech until it's turned against them. Then they suddenly don't want it anymore.

If something is taken down unfairly, they're going to get called out for it, especially if it was something big like APM.

Yet bronies have no clue if APM was taken down unfairly because none of them saw the C&D and JJ himself does not appear to believe the decision was unfair either. No one seems to be listening to the fact that JJ himself, one of the creators has no ill will towards this decision. They are jumping up in arms and acting like it's a huge travesty, when they don't even know.

Not to mention as I have stated in other topics: bronies don't seem to understand what the rules of fair use are, and seem to think if they slap "non-profit", "fan-work", and "parody" onto something that suddenly makes it okay. There are still rules that need to be followed. With the evidence at hand, by law Hasbro has a case. Good luck getting any jury to sympathize with JJ and uphold that a character named MOLESTia which is heavily based on Hasbro's universe and uses trademarked content within it's comic to be upheld as a fair parody that does not damage Hasbro in any way shape or form.

I went to school for graphic design and one thing we had to learn there was copyright and fair use. From my education on the laws, Molestia is not protected by them.

Ahahah... I dont know about you guys, but I enjoy it. Really.

When grown men on the forums threaten me, whine and write some retarded *yay* about it.. It's glorious, what can I say.

They're funny in the same way kitten stuck in a roll of paper towels is funny.

Nothing says more about your superiority than a straight face and elusive puns on those imbeciles.

Oh yeah, and I was reading Molly and some hater wannabe's (apparently now tracking pony stuff) were trying to troll me with it on my local forum.

I guess some people are too silly to understand that nothing is permanent and.. everything will perish sooner or later.

You're a brony yet are saying "typical brony fashion"? Oh wait, I see, you're one of those "I'm not a brony! I'm just a fan of the show" guys...Brony = someone who likes MLP. Just because you might not like the word or certain people associated with the word doesn't mean you aren't one. And why should content creators stop making content just because Google and other websites can't moderate properly?

But you don't HAVE to be a brony. You can just like MLP.

You're a brony, as I mentioned above. Liking MLP = being a brony. You don't have to particularly care about the fan stuff to be a brony.

Also, what are bronies doing to discourage this image? Nothing. They just try to justify the stuff that people use to make these claims and write them off as "the minority" when they aren't even sure that's true. This forum for example is working to discourage this image. Whether people want to accept what its really about , in the end, is up to them.

You're a brony

No I'm not. I specifically said this.

Brony = someone who likes MLP.

No. This is exactly that attitude I am talking about. Brony is a self-given label. This kind of "if you like the show you're a brony" mentality is precisely what pisses people off. It's forced conformity and it's forcing people into the "herd" when they just want to like a show for liking a show. They don't want the label, don't force it upon them.

Just because you might not like the word or certain people associated with the word doesn't mean you aren't one.

That would apply if it wasn't a choice. Like I can not "choose" to be black or not (well figuratively speaking, not counting surgeries but that's a whole other argument), but I can damn well choose if I want to be a brony or not. That's attaching obligations to liking a TV show and it's annoying and pathetic. "If you like this, then you have no choice but to join us." That's like saying because I like cooking a little that I must be a chef or I must watch food network now. Like in order to like it, I need to join a club. This kind of mentality is basically saying no one can casually or passingly enjoy something unless they want a label and all it entails.

And why should content creators stop making content just because Google and other websites can't moderate properly?

Did I say they need to stop? No. They need to moderate their content and stop blaming Google for it. Google's job is to provide information, unbiased in its raw form. Don't blame them because a majority of the information coming from anything brony is porn. That's not their fault. Google is only displaying the truth. You're acting like Google is purposely putting the porn in the limelight when it's not them. They are putting what is the most searched in the lime light. Google displays pretty much a majority of the entire internet, how do you realistically expect them to filter every last thing without failure? It's impossible.

Bronies need to be more aggressive in pushing the NSFW content to NSFW sites and tell people to keep what they fap to to themselves. So many sites that don't allow NSFW content still have people openly admitting what they are fapping to even if they are not posting it. That is not normal. I don't casually discuss on sites rated PG13 that I watch X type of porn and I think X is hottest actor, etc. It's a matter of bronies tolerate indecency and then complain when people point it out. Tell people to keep their fapping habits to themselves.

This forum for example is working to discourage this image.

Yet here you are promoting the image by doing many of the things that created it in the first place:

Forcing people into bronyhood.

Justifying the porn.

Defending the porn.

Passing the blame onto others.

Playing the victim.

Downplaying the problem.

You can if you want to. If you want to be a super fan, be a super fan.

Then prepare for criticism.

You have the right to get upset if you don't like the way you're being judged.

Absolutely, but you can't force people to stop judging you. They are within their rights.

All I've seen you do thus far is put none of the blame on bronies and all the blame on others. You're not willing to accept that maybe perhaps your precious brony group might be partially (if not entirely) to blame for their predicament. How can you possibly hope to solve the problem if you are not willing to accept an ounce of the blame?

For why my school mates hate bronies, I would get banned for what I think.

For why society in general hates bronies, I guess its cause society is used to normal things, and of course teens an adults watching a show for little girls isn't classified as normal is it. I guess there's other stuff as well.

In short: The sooner bronies stop passing the blame for their hate on other sources, the sooner they can do something about it.

Or they can simply stop giving a shit what other people think and move on. Granted it is easier said than done for a lot of bronies who yes do in fact get bullied by not only their peers but in many cases even their own friends and family over it but that dosen't mean that there aren't any who get a bit too defensive about it or your occasionally pushy brony. What I think does the most damage to our reputation though are the ones who for whatever reason seem to want to put the fandom on some kind of pedestal by expecting everyone to abide by their own set of arbitrary standards on what a brony should be and how they should behave and get butthurt when anyone deviates even slightly from that.

They seem to go out of their to try to seek out everything that is bad or bad in their opinion about the fandom and endless bitch about it while failing to see the good from it. So there are few pushy and annoying bronies, have any of these people or the "sane bronies" considered ignoring them? Yes there is a lot of rule 34 but there is a lot of rule 34 of a lot of other kids shows as well so it seems stupid and pointless to single out MLP for it especially when what people jerk off to is nobody's damn business anyway. Google is really not the best place to look for images if you don't want to find porn because the search filters are a bit flawed on it but deviantart is a good place to good with decent filters and same with fimfiction, now if only certain people would remember to turn those filters ON.

All of this scapegoating about certain groups within the fandom "making us look bad" is doing is drawing attention to the more unsavory elements of the fandom or in some cases the elemets percieved as unsavory like cloppers for example instead of just simply accepting the fact that you have crazies and jackasses in everything and that there will always be some idiots who will never ever ever understand that no matter how much people try to go out their way to bend over backwards to apologize for them. I accept the fact that there are bad apples in the bunch but apologize to nobody for nothing unless I personally am responsible for it and what I have done was actually wrong and not just something that is "wrong" because people think it is wrong.

But you are a brony if you like the show. You don't have to go around spouting it everywhere you go, but if asked and you denied it wouldn't make sense by definition. You can just like the show and still be a brony. I myself never read fanfics and don't really care about any of the fan work as of now but I still call myself a brony. I have more to say on this topic and I think I'm going to cover it in a blog post later, so read that later if you give a rats ass about my opinion on the subject.

Well that would work too. It's the more sensible solution, but we all know bronies won't accept that solution. They want both pieces of the cake. They want to not have to not give a damn, but also not face criticism. You can't have both pieces of the cake though.

bend over backwards to apologize for them.

Bronies shouldn't apologize for them. They should say their acts are deplorable and stick to it instead of this "every fandom has bad seeds" as an excuse to "tolerate" their behavior. Sorry, but the world isn't all sunshine and roses, If you fap to cartoon horses, people are going to look down on you for it. There's no way around it, and when you try to either justify/defend/ignore it, you will be judged as well. If you are prepared to be judged, then by all means continue to do so, but if you do not want to be lumped with them, you have to stand against them. It's not an issue that really you can be "in the middle" about.

Brony is a made up word. Technically speaking it only has the definition that bronies give it. So by definition I am not doing anything wrong by denying the label. There is no "set in stone" definition of the word. Once again, you are trying to make people conform.

I myself never read fanfics and don't really care about any of the fan work as of now but I still call myself a brony.

To give my honest opinion here, while I do believe that there are bronies which do try to '' shove '' the fandom where it does not belong, I in no way believe it to be to the extent that many of the Anti-bronies make it out to be. I frequent a lot of videos on Youtube and other popular sites from time to time and while I will often find someone with a pony avatar, I rarely find someone discussing the show outside of brony related videos. I feel a lot of their hate is misguided in that they have experienced bronies that do shove the fandom onto others and then base their entire view of bronies off of these individuals. I am not trying to defend the ones that act obnoxious but I am not seeing pony comments becoming, as ''smothering'' as others make them out to be. I don't know, maybe I am just fortunate to not run into bronies like that.
