I've just started reading pony fanfics.

And some short comics.

Though most of them are darkfics.

Some of them are thought provoking.

Others are just plain sad.

Though I'll pretty much read anything as long as its interesting.

Don't remember the first one I read.

But I liked this one I read recently called "NIGEB" by Aquaman I think.

Still would like find some more good ones, people come up with some interesting things. XD

Not sure if this has been posted already, but...I WOULD recommend "A Stranger in Ponyville (OR a Genre Shift in Three Acts)", but it seems to have disappeared. I'm not sure if there's some site rule it violated. There's an audiobook series on YouTube, but it only goes to chapter 4 out of I think 28. I'd also recommend "The Code of Harmony". As far as I know, it's still available on Fimfiction.net

My favorite fan fiction I've read so far is Anthropology (yes, the one about Lyra). I think it is fascinating how one little pony sets her life's goal to find out more about the mysterious "Humans" and how they have affected Equestrian society; saddles, hand tools, etc. I haven't even read all of it yet, but from what I've read, I highly recommend it.

"Under Snow" is a REALLY good one

 

Spoilered, because clopfic.

It's a Rarijack clopfic, but breaks every single stereotype of a clopfic!

 

It's not just smut, there's a REALLY good story along with it You've got character development, storylines, actual, in-depth dialogue, and the characterization is EXCELLENT!

 

Now, my lone criticism is that, when the time came, they dove into the...erm, activities, a bit too quickly; other than that, it was so good, it made me want to write fanfics again... I might actually try it again, too  

 

Naturally, I can't link it due to the explicit nature of it, but I think that it's one you can enjoy even if you're not a clopper

 

Hell, it's so unlike every other clopfic, due to it having such a great story and being written so well, that it could easily pass as a shipfic

Could anyone here recommend a good fanfic for me?

 

I have only been a brony for a few weeks now, and I'm not even done with watching the episodes (I'm only in early season 2).  However, I think I'd like to read a good brony fanfiction.  I thoroughly enjoy Tolkien's works, and I have also read and loved the Eragon/Inheritance series and the Hunger Games books.  If you are familiar with Lois Lowry and her Giver series, I liked those too.  With that in mind, I guess fantasy and science fiction are my favorite genres for real books.  However, I guess you could say that I like stories with adventure.  The only brony fanfiction that I fave read was MLDashie (it was just alright, kind of sad for my tastes).  I don't want ponified versions of existing stories, stories that are very long (I am actually reading other books), or clopfics.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

My personal favorites are :

1)My little Dashie- because it's a nice story that I can relate to in several ways.

2) Pony Physiology- it's a story that delves into all the Mane 6's lives in a believe-able way and has a heartwarming conclusion.

3) Rainbow Factory- I usually don't like grim-dark fics. But this has a story that delves into Cloudsdales social structure and and shows how far they will go to have a 'flawless' image.

White Zinfandel: Warning, the first act of the story does contain a variety of clop, it's not exactly the best written (I would actually suggest the writer find himself an editor to iron out the misspellings, grammar issues, and small inconsistencies), and there's a considerable amount of [good] headcanon that comes into play. The storyline, however, is phenomenal! The story centers around Shining Armor's life growing up and the trials, heart ache, and stresses that strengthen the stallion from his teenage years into the heroic Royal Guard Captain that the show portrays him as. Starting from when Shining is a teenager, the young stallion's entire life is turned upside down when he is assigned to be the personal escort of Rarity and her mother during Rarity's father's pro hoofball games. And things only get crazier from there. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll scream with anger! From schoolfilly crushes to hoofwritten letters spilling deep secrets, this story is highly recommended to anypony who doesn't mind wading through the smut to find a truly winning plot beyond.

There's a pretty popular and really cool fanfiction called A Brony Life. It currently has about 90 chapters and is still being made. It's about a non-brony that gets transported to Equestria, there's a lot of other fanfictions like this but this one stands out.
