i guess they could since really a cutie mark is their talent or a major characteristic for that oc.

Sure. Applejack as a apple cutiemark, but she picks apples AND makes food with it. So there can be more than one.

Yes, they can. Some examples include Twilight and Rainbow's interest for reading, Pinkie's interest for baking and Applejack's interest for being with her family. Any pony can have an interest outside of their cutie mark, really. :P

Aye, Rarity has already canonically proven this is the case in several episodes. Cutie mark is not dress making, or tapestry repairing, or social interaction, or spa chilling ... it's gem location.

Of course they could, just because something is their special talent doesn't mean they have to do only that thing, or even that thing at all.

Going on that route, Twilight's cutie supposedly deals more with magic than it does with her hobby of reading books and micro-managing.

you got it backwards. AJ's cutie mark IS her family .The three apples on her butt represent her with her family, and that her destiny is to be with them (as seen in the episode where she got her cutie mark, looking back at her farm the rainbow led to, from manehattan.)

Her hobby, on the other hand, is farmwork and picking apples.

I do know ponies can have talents outside the so

called Cutie Mark,  the mark might just the strongest

talent they have but they made have others.

As said,  Fluttershy has a mad talent for knowing

all things sewing and types of sticks one can use!

Rainbow Dash reads, which is almost the antithesis of her cutie mark.

Fluttershy has a fetish for knitting.

Twilight runs Twilight Time outside her normal duties as a librarian.

Rarity and Flutters both go to the spa occasionally

Pinkie Pie babysits(babysat?)

And  they pretty much all save the world together. So yeah, i'd say so.

oh course they can, Rarity sings in a quartet. Pinkie Pie plays a dozen instruments, ice skates and bakes....sort of.

Apple Jack bakes and makes stuff from apples, probably other stuff too.

I say yes.

To me, a cm represents their special talent/destiny, though I'm sure almost everypony has a little hobby to do on their side time. :D

I would say yes.

Twilight's special talent is magic, but she is an avid scholar and loves reading as well as being a librarian (formerly).

Rainbow Dash discovered a love for reading the Darin Do books as a hobby that doesn't involve athletic activity.

Fluttershy has shown to have skill with knitting as mentioned in the first Rarity episode with Hoity Toity (the episode title eludes me at the moment).

Both Applejack and Pinkie Pie have been shown to have great culinary skills outside of their respective talents.

Now, they may not necessarily be as adept at those hobbies as they are with the talent their Cutie Mark represents, but it seems like they can, and do have them.

Doesn't Fluttershy do knitting or something?

And Rainbow Dash reads Daring Do books.

Yeah, I quite like Fluttershy's Micro Issue, because it reveals a different side to her. Rainbowdash reading books is the most obvious example of a side hobby. I've always figured cutie marks were indicative of a pony's vocation, and in real life, even if people find a calling and land a career in that field, they usually have other interests on the side. I don't think ponies are that different in that regard. Besides, in the non-neoliberal world of Equestria, ponies seem to have more spare time than a typical human, so it makes sense that they would develop side hobbies.

Definitely. Many ponies in the show have shown more than one talent. I even have one OC who's the same way. Crimson Katana's talent is swordsmanship. But he is also really good at cooking.

Applejack and Pinkie Pie both enjoy baking. Fluttershy has a knowledge of sewing that rivals Rarity. Twilight and Rainbow Dash read and collect Daring Do novels. Yes, they can have as diverse interests as anyone, but one talent that stands out is what they get a cutie mark for.

This is a silly question. Of course they can. Anyone recall this?

Of course not every example, or most more likely, will be that conflicting with the character. Remember a cutie mark is just 1 of many aspects of a character.

A pony defines his/her cutie mark, not the opposite.

Charity Sweetmint (Rarity's apprentice from G.M.Berrow's chapter book) has a cutie mark of three heart-shaped gems; she likes diving and bucking apples (and unlike Rarity, she isn't very good at locating gems).
