First off, @ the title.

 

However, this pun has a very serious tone in it. "Thanks for the memories" implies a permanent "goodbye." In other words, this episode could imply that Dash worries that if Tank hibernates, he'll never wake up.

 

TftM could lead to some heartwarming tales. Many of us have animals and are very close to them. Sometimes we don't consider them pets, but actual children. (I sure do.) Losing an animal is like a parent losing a child; humans will do whatever they can to keep them safe.

 

But it could feel contrived. One reason is its timing. HWE took place AFTER MtBPW!, and the last two seasons are chronological. In other words, it would make sense to acknowledge past winters and possibly give Dash a solid alibi to why she would feel so apprehensive to stopping winter from coming. If there's either no (good) reason or it's "just because," then Dash's worries will feel artificial. Conversely, give Dash a very strong alibi (i.e., in their last hibernation, Tank woke up feeling sick), and her worries will have conviction.

Okay, while it might turn out pretty well in execution, I can already say that this will most likely be very predictable.

 

I mean, come one, what will happen? Dash tries to prevent winter from coming and then realizes that affecting that many people and things for a rather "selfish" goal is a no-go. Hopefully it will be told well, even if the plot turns out to be kinda predictable in the end.

Anyway, it may sound a bit.. odd for Rainbow Dash, but I can see where they're coming from. Plus, I'm not going to judge this episode, as when Family Appreciation Day was about to air, I thought the plot sounded stupid, but I ended up thinking that was gr8 m8 r8/8, so.. maybe. This will work.. maybe.

So we are going to see Tank again soon eh?  Well it's nice to know that he isn't dead and tied down by cinderblocks in the depths of the ocean with Diamond Tiara's potential to be a good character.  Either that or it's nice to know that he still exists as we rarely get to actually see the pets actually do anything ever outside of brief cameos and JFSK if at all.

Hopefully Rainbow Dash doesn't release Tank like a pokemon but if she does then the episode could be emotionally engaging and be a way way better send off then what poor Pewee got.  Either that or it could be a really nice bonding episode between the two and actually give an insight to their relationship.  (Even though Angel is the only pet with an actual personality and Tank and the others don't it would still be nice to see something out of the pets besides minor cameos.)

So far this episode sounds weird and the synopsis is far from the best but hey I've enjoyed episodes with worse set ups.

Even if it's about the journey, the journey won't matter if:

• The journey itself sucks. In other words, the plot makes no sense, out-of-characterization or flanderization, logic lapses (just because it's a fantasy land of talking horses doesn't mean they shouldn't be gripped to any level of reality), poor pacing, etc. If you have to sacrifice Writing 101 for it to work, then the episode's quality suffers.
• There's nothing new or creative. Your audience expects the journey to veer into another direction to recreate, if not better, the flavor. When you follow the cliché down to the letter or follow the standard trope, then the script becomes a virtual checklist and not a story. Following the cliché right down to the letter is insulting to the audience, especially kids.

I read this synopsis and I just don't know what to think, honestly. Should I be excited? Should I be anticipating something bad? Should I just get up, get myself a nice can of Pepsi, and go back to what I was doing beforehand?

I don't know what to expect, and I mean that in the most neutral way possible. This sounds like it could be something really good or kinda meh or just plain stupid, and usually a synopsis gives me a pretty good idea of what to be expecting.

So I'm actually interested to see where this goes, for better or for worse.

OMG this episode that we are about to see, reminds me of that movie "Stand by Me DORAEMON" especially the ending when Doraemon is allowed to stay with Nobita in the end.

Not a bad feeling as much as a bit dubious, but yeah.

But MLP:FIM  does that journey very well (most of the time)

 

I am going on record on predicting THIS is the episode with the RD solo.

It feels like it's the only way to get the emotions out quickly enough to have enough time to deal with everything else in the episode [2-3 failed attempts to stop winter and probably 1 that would work but gets stopped by her friends].

 

My worry center just stated that it's her loyalty song.
