What fanfictions or headcanons really annoy you?

 

I personally really dislike any stories shipping members of the Mane Six. Why would they have a romantic relationship anyway?

 

I am also really annoyed by crossover fics involving the narrator becoming X and getting sent to Equestria, especially when the annoyingly generic "A merchant sold me X and now I'm X in Equestria" story is used. If you're gonna transform into a Pokemon, be in the Pokemon universe.

Can't think of any headcanons off the top of my head that really irk me. I don't mind shipping, as long as it makes some sort of sense (i.e. not Snails and Princess Celestia).

 

I have a list a half-mile long of fanfiction genres and story ideas that get my goat. One of the big ones is, like you said, crossover stories for the sake of throwing some random character into the MLPverse unless it is done humorously, like Liberty Prime Invades- I Mean, Saves Equestria.

Well regarding fanfiction, I simply dislike contrivance. Suppose two unlikely characters are to become a couple. This is fine by me, as long as I'm convinced that conclusion was reached naturally without betraying their proper characterization.

 

 

And regarding headcannon, I've always been reluctant to accept Dinky Doo as Derpy Hooves's daughter. Sisters perhaps... but a mother daughter relationship? How old is Derpy Hooves supposed to be? Would that also make her the mother of Amethyst Star, who participated in the Sisterhooves Social with Dinky Doo, presumably as her sister? It's an uncomfortable stretch to me.

The theory that Derpy is the mother of Dinky and Amethyst Star. Dinky and Amethyst Star participated in the sister hooves social with eachother, so it's safe to say they're sisters. But the only reason people think Derpy is the mother is because her and Dinky have similar looking colours. That's it.

 

And people who believe the theory are so arrogant and especially when they think its canon.

Lyra's obsession with humans. I don't hate it that much, but I'd rather it be some other pony.

 

Equestria used to be Earth. Humans died... and somehow pastel ponies took their place.

As I've said on another thread, the headcanon that Pinkie is a psychopathic murderer/cannibal always annoyed me. The fanfictions I've seen of it are very rarely well-written and usually made just for the sake of torture porn (i.e. Cupcakes). Concerning fanfictions, I have a deep loathing for human visits Equestria or pony visits human world stories. The only one I've ever read that was decent is Anthropology. Another is fanfictions like Cupcakes or Sweet Apple Massacre. I understand some people may enjoy them, but I think they're way too graphic and downright disgusting.

I'm not much in clopping at all or a human in the show or a human turns pony.  Also some ships don't ring well with me but pairing a human with a pony,  humans finding the pony world or throwing a lone pony into the human world and etc follows.    Some cross overs are not my thing also.

Right, there's a long list, but i'll just keep to the big ones (The majority of which involve Changelings);

Clop. Cartoon Horses should have never been put to pornography.

Shipfics (Unless the Couple is cannon, but then I guess it isn't a ship) because they tend to be underwritten and badly written (at least from what I've seen)

The idea that changelings have a hive mind (A weird one, but my OC is half changeling [i'm still working the kinks on that one, btw, writing it into Tap is really damn hard.] if you didn't know) because it ruins Civilized Changelings and Changelings altogether in my opinion.

The question of Changeling intelligence (Workers are idiots, Queens aren't.) Because it's obvious they understand ponies' speech (See: Pinkie's "Oh, do me, do me!" scene in A Canterlot Wedding pt 2) and they have to speak to blend in, so it doesn't work when you think about it.

There isnt a whole lot that I have an issue with. Some Human point of view when they get shoved in Equestria for some reason or another then yeah it bugs me a bit. OC's being shipped with the mane 6 bug me a bit too. 

But I have always find some that handle the idea really well. So its all kind of Meh for me since its all depends on how its written (then again I listen to fanfics rather then read them. so it might make a bit of a difference too)

I think almost anything can be written well if the author knows what they're doing, I mean I've seen pretty much everything on this thread done well. Human in Equestria stories, Shipfics, even Clopfics. In the end though, it's all subjective. For that reason I generally refrain from criticizing entire genres. In my eyes, until you've seen everything from a group, you can't wholly judge the group.

 

Besides that, in my personal opinion, I only have two "real" annoyances in fanfics that I've seen often. One is when characters that make no sense being shipped together are shipped together. The other is really just any unnecessarily gorey fanfics. Again, even the latter I've seen done well.

Now, I'm not a fan of horror, but I prefer to remain open to different things. So, I have read several horror fics, and even then I have no complaints (besides, of course, it's horror and I can't stomach it).

Name a ship and it will annoy me, especially when the shipper is so adamant on shipping that they get pissy when that ship is challenged. Also worse when they are background ponies with forced personalities then arbitrarily shipped because of reasons. Ie Doctor x Derpy

Headcanons: Tyrantlestia and Woobie Woona, Orphanloo, Psychopathic Murderer Pinkie Pie, Lesbian Dash

 

Fanfics: My Little Dashie, Grimdark in general, any fanfic that only exist to bash other characters, human in Equestria(especially when most are just self inserts so they can get hitched with their waifus), Pony on Earth(especially when most revolve around some loser, who finds their waifu naked and touches their breasts. No that totally isn't creepy, not at all)

Not that it is a dedicated clopfic per say, but have you read the hidden chapter in University Days? It is pure, unadulterated love with only a touch or two of physicality. It actually adds another small layer to the story with their passion, rather than just capitalizing on an opportunity to throw in some erotica. It is well done in that the sex retains an innocence about itself, as well. I have not read any other material designated as "clopfic", but that is honestly how it should be done throughout the genre. Props to DawnFade; I almost forgot that I was reading about ponies.

Clopfics, grimdark, Pinkie being a murderous psychopath, Dinky being Derpy's illegitimate child.

 

 

I would also like to mention the "emo" factor to the story My Little Dashie.

I mean I like MLD for it's imagination and the story. I know it is supposed to be a sad story at the end, which is well done. But why does always have to be over emotional every step of the way, like in "emotional readings" for instance, when the story stands on it own?
