DQ: What would you consider a true friend to be?

Tranquil Claw

Recommended Posts

DQ stands for "Daily Question".

Before MLP I always considered a true friend to be someone who you could tell anything to without worrying about how they reacted. Now I think of a true friend as someone who shows loyalty, truthfulness, kindness, generosity, and a happiness that can never be dampened when you're around. What do you think a friend needs to be a true friend?

A true friend is a person I feel connected with. Someone I can live with, in harmony :) . It's like, bounding souls :P .

I wouldn't pay attention about the way they act, if they are generous, loyal, etc.. I don't have expectations, as long as they are good persons. ;)

A person that i feel a special bond with. A person that i can go to and express my feelings. A person that is always by my side no matter what, through my ups and downs. A person that doesn't care what you do or what you like. A person that is loyal, honest, kind, generous, they make me laugh and are fun to have around. A person which i have a "magical" bond with. These are traits that make a true friend.

A true friend is someone who has seen you at your absolute worst and stays by you regardless. Even if you haven't spoken to one another for long periods of time, you can always pick up right where you left off. It's like you have your own secret language, and you can communicate volumes to each other with a simple look. You're their go-to confidant, and they know they're yours.

I'll have to think on the desired traits a bit more.

A true friend is someone who understands you and stays by your side even when you're at your worst.  They're a person who won't leave you when you've been unkind to them, but instead will forgive you, and for whom you are willing to do the same.  A true friend is someone you would do anything for, and who would do anything for you.  A true friend will accept you for who you are, no matter what happens, through thick and thin, and someone who you will accept for who they are in the same way.

A true friend respects you and listens and tries to see things from your perspective even when it isn't so easy for them to do so.  A true friend knows that sometimes you are going to be very broken and confused and lost, and they are willing to be there to help you find your way.  A true friend wants you to be happy and will do what they can to help you achieve that goal.  They will be there for you even when things aren't at their best for them because they know you'd do the same for them.  A true friend is a shoulder you can always cry on, even after big fights and misunderstandings.

I have a few of these; I have never been able to meet them in person, but that doesn't reduce the quality of our friendship and doesn't make them any less important to me or vice versa.   :grin2:

To me a true friend is someone who loves you as you truly are & you love them as they truly are in return.  In society we wear so many masks everyday it's easy to forget ourselves in the process.  A friend sees through the masks we wear and understands us on a deeper level.

A true friend is someone who doesn't want to constantly one up you, outmatch you, or out rank you...they realize your strengths and weaknesses and mesh well with you using them.

Friends can laugh and pick on each other, but there comes a point where the jokes become more mean spirited and disrespectful; a friend realizes this, and stops picking BEFORE they think you've had enough. Friendship comes from a nice balance of respect for one another; if one has more respect, then they become frienemies.

I am not sure if this quality is valuable, but it seems to me that a true friend never makes you feel guilty. It happens sometimes that the blame is put on you even though there is no fault of yours, but it is done to hear you apologizing and asking for excuse. That is really disappointing...

A true friend is someone who I share a strong bond with. We share our talents, thoughts, and happiness through this bond. We pick each other up during the hard times, and we seek a brighter future, together. The strengths of either, the weaknesses of neither.

For better or worse, I wouldn't have been the man I am today if it wasn't for my dear old friends.

True friends are very rare to find, but they are indeed treasures. A true friend is someone who sticks by you through thick and thin. They're there to offer support and advice, and they would stick up for you at the drop of a hat. True friends empower you to stay strong. They celebrate your talents, just as you do theirs. They share in your triumphs and are there to console you through your trials. Friends will have their arguments, but true friendships will strengthen when they are tested. A true friend is someone you can also just hangout and have fun with!

Somebody who:

I can trust, I enjoy being with, Won't leave me whatever happens. Listens when I say something. Trusts me. Tells honest opinion about everything. I can tell when I'm down.

A true friend is one who positively spends time with you. Talking and/or having fun. They accept you for you. I told him I'm a brony, and he's cool with it. He closes his eyes in ''ew'' if he sees ponies and thinks MLP is for little girls, yet he accepts my interests and is still my best friend.

In my opinion  a true friend is someone that cares about you and also never hesitates to tell you if you are in the wrong. They are also honest, kind, playful, and many other things.

Tough question.. although my expectations are basic. Friends who are loyal, likes to joke, honest, share almost the same interests, ones who can accept mistakes and try to improve (because hey, I do it)and not a toxic person. Most of all, those who appreciate your company and your fellowship.
