Do you have a gun in your house?

like what kind of weapons? you said you are an engineer so i have high hopes for the kind of contraptions you would build

and overpopulation of game is a big problem, that is why the government regulates how many deer for example a hunter in a certain area can kill, areas with a ton of deer get thinned out and areas with not enough deer don't because to many of one kind tends to cause them to get unhealthy and starve, hunters also kill sick deer and injured ones allowing the healthy ones to reproduce, sure there are some hunters that do bad things but the DNR is usually hiding behind a tree trying to catch them, hunters and rangers don't like poachers or people who kill just for a set of antlers anymore than you do. i know people that hunt because they can't afford to buy meat in the store

I'd rather not talking too much about those weapons, what I did and capable of doing might not be fully legal, and I wish to keep a clean record. Those controls I referred was predator control, not deer hunting, which I believe in some place misguided.

No way, not only do I live in Australia where we have very strong gun laws (and no mass shootings since 1996) but I have no need for a gun, and I certainly don't want one. I also wish that the US would follow our laws so there wouldn't be a mass shooting every bloody week.

I live in UK so, no. Why do some of you guys own them? I just don't see the appeal. I live in a quiet village in Wales so don't need one for self-defence in my house at all. Do houses get broken into a lot where you live?

The 2nd Amendment was more of an attempt from keeping the United States stable at the time. After the war ended, there were a crapton of guns left around the countryside, most of which was bought and owned by colonists themselves, not the army, so forcing them to simply throw away those guns was basically asking for an overthrow.

It's still active today because realistically, with a long history of armed civilians, no one is going to part, especially with organized crime and gangs all around the country. You would definitely want to defend yourself.

And to answer the question...my family has two pistols. In California (and several other states), there's a ten-bullet magazine restriction on all firearms, and rifles require a bullet button to slow down reloading time. It's good enough for civil defense.

Yes, houses have knives, pans, hammers, all sorts of improvised weapons, but there will hardly be just one armed guy storming into your house. You need to have the capability to fight back with equal force, especially since it would take several minutes for the police to arrive and help you.

No way, not only do I live in Australia where we have very strong gun laws (and no mass shootings since 1996) but I have no need for a gun, and I certainly don't want one. I also wish that the US would follow our laws so there wouldn't be a mass shooting every bloody week.

Several states do place heavy gun control laws, especially the liberal-dominated states, but that unfortunately doesn't stop people from doing mass shootings anyway. It's not very hard to smuggle weapons from one state to another. The San Ysidro Massacre, for example, was done by a mentally unstable man from Ohio that brought his entire gun arsenal to Tijuana, Mexico, then to San Ysidro...and he has a semi-auto Uzi.

Terrorists, either from outside or "home-brewed", do not care about guns laws and how restrictive they are. They will always find a way, and as shown through the San Bernardino shooting, they had removed the button mechanism and attempted to use extended magazines.

The reason why Australia doesn't suffer that much shootings or attacks is associated with their history and location. Australia was almost never a target for terrorism, was never majorly involved in foreign conflict in recent decades, and most of all, Australia's population is less mixed than the United States, especially when compared to the US's Southwest or South. Unfortunate at it sounds, race is a factor in conflict (different cultures, different ideas, different philosophies) and sometimes even fuel fierce behavior that leads to public civilian attacks. Save for a few cities and aborigines, Australia has an almost completely white population.

In conclusion, even if the whole country went with restrictive guns laws like Australia, that won't really decrease the number of mass shootings it gets. The United States is not Australia and can't be "like" Australia.

Nope. I live in Australia, a country where most of us say "fuck you" to lethal weapons.

I do wish Airsoft was legal though, It would be a fun exercise for me.

you sure about that? I can count at least 4 shootings after 1996 on this list, 2 of which happened last year in 2014

I don't own a gun and I'm pretty sure no one in my family does. The only gun I've ever shot was a BB gun and the last time I held one was in the Boy Scouts. I'd be a terrible shot if I had to defend myself with a gun.

Airsoft "weapons" are hardly lethal, that is, when you're using it to shoot. Kind of unnecessary if your country is banning those as well. Not to mention that Airsoft is nigh impossible to modify into a real gun...

Unless you count in plenty of nail guns then no, not yet at least. Though I'm planning on buying this beauty.

It's the Marlin 1895 sbl it is beautiful. Reason I don't have one at home is simply because I can't afford buying that one as I'm in school and well it is my priority. So yeah, once I'll free up some currency for this rifle I'll definitely buy it. Though I've shot some guns before but haven't had the opportunity yet to buy one as I have pretty high standards when it comes to firearms so I wouldn't just buy any gun.  :ooh:

Yes, I've got a respectable collection. I hunt as well but that has nothing to do with exercising your 2nd amendment rights.

Guns are just a fact of life around here, everyone has them and they don't get a second thought. They are tools for protecting the homestead from varmints and predators, they are sporting equipment for hunting and the shooting sports, they are toys for having fun at the range or plinking in the back yard and they are emplements for exercising our constutional rights to self defense and liberty.

Unfortunatly, I think most people that are against guns get all of their information about them from unreliable sources like Hollywood and the mainstream media. I bet most have never even held one and people tend to fear what they don't understand.

If anti-gunners took the time to better understand them and why people enjoy them, I think many minds could be changed.

If you still think guns are pure evil, think about this nerdy analogy. In Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith, when Anakin murdered all of the children at the Jedi school, did you blame the light saber or the Sith himself?

@@Gearbox10mmI've always found it to be interesting how people always seem to overlook every use you have for a gun. Like around here I mean sure everyone has gun, it doesn't mean they need one but hey people want to be able to go out hunting and same for many farmers who need to kill vermins. Yet I've always felt the whole debate is so one sided it's just ridiculous. I feel like everyone should at least go once to a shooting range and just see what they're really afraid of instead of shunning them and those who like them.

Really like those two as well, although admittedly I've thought more about the Mossberg I've always liked the whole appeal of pump action shotguns.  :twi: Though personally I've always wanted the Remington 870 express, I suppose it varies between people some prefer Remington others Mossberg. The Ruger does look beautiful though, I've always liked bolt action rifles they just look very nice.  :grin2:

I just want the Mossberg 500 because it's widely known to be very reliable and it's under 300 bucks.

totally, people can't seem to understand that guns don't HAVE to be used kill people! they can't see the fun in shooting a pop can or putting a hole in paper from 500 yards away, a gun is a tool, I use a gun more for keeping the predators off my goats than anything,

people in the country use them for killing predators that kill the little baby goats, sheep, and cows, for killing rabid animals, for killing an animal that is injured like a deer that has had it's legs broke by a car. ECT, guns are used for simple tasks like that, and they are an essential tool for people in the country, acting like the single purpose of a gun is to murder someone is just flat out wrong, many people own them for the simple fun of shooting a jug of water or a paper target and that is all they ever shoot, they are an object, being scared of a gun is like being scared of a car or a spoon

I don't have guns in the house. Not here in Australia, which is a country of peace and freedom. Although, I think guns are frickin epic. Guns are the reason why Action is my favourite movie genre.  B)

Nope. Never have, never will.

I'm not a gun nut. Nor my parents, thank God. I do not think guns are cool or fun. I do not like hunting. I do not want to spend my money on getting licensed and professionally trained, and then actually getting a gun.

I do not need a gun, I do not want a gun, and therefore, I do not own a gun.
