general What's your opinion on Furries?

The stories you hear in mainstream media are always stereotypical and a lot worse than reality, I think. That said, I personally don't like the anthro stuff much and I will admit people in fursuits freak me out. I have nothing against people who wear them, but I'm giving them a wide berth just the same. I'm not even going to get into the people who actually believe they're a wolf or whatever.

If you want to get into the fandom, though, just go for it. You get into a fandom to enjoy yourself, and no matter what others think about it you shouldn't let it get to you. Just be wary not to get too militant about it, as that will inevitably lead to trolling.

I have no real opinion of them one way or the other.  Unfortunately, my lack of any interest or knowledge on the subject means that my perception of them is coloured largely by the loudest section of the fandom, which is of course, the section that gives the whole a bad name.  However, since I am aware that my perception is skewed I am able to separate that minority from the rest.

The only thing that does irk me somewhat is when [a minority of] furries insist that I must be a furry because I like MLP, which is a completely baseless assertion.  Some of these people would have us believe that anyone that likes Watership Down, Robin Hood or any other film with animal characters must be a furry by definition.  I would reinforce though, that this is of course, only the minority and not representative of the fandom a s a whole.

Honestly I think the idea is odd, but I've met some very kind individuals. I don't have anything against them, but the ones who take it to a sexual level well, that's pretty gross.

I have a few friends that are furries and i never had any issue with them, not even that their creative fantasies go to 18+, as long as they stay just fantasies. Furry Art was also partially the reason, how i came up with the idea of Mesme Rize and i am thankful for that. :)

The concept towards people liking anthropomorphic animals is extremely weird in my opinion. But so is people liking a show targeted towards little girls.

A fandom that gets too much hate simply because they have a hobby that many consider weird. Other than that, they're a harmless bunch of fans that put great effort and care to their devotion as fans of Furries.

It's just another form of escapism taken to its limits, with a high focus on sexual expression added as well. It's not like the concept of furries is really new though. People have always identified with animals and sexualized them in some way.

But what do I personally think? It's just another form of 'weird'. One amongst many.

I was taught that in certain situations ( this being one of them) If you can't say anything nice, don't say it. So i won't state my opinion.

Their existence makes my everyoung heart soar with hope, for they stand as a reminder that I am not this world's last and final believer in sexual liberalism, they shout "You are not alone!" Let us salute these brave, risk-taking souls as they strive to keep the fire going, so one day, future generations of young adults can know these experiences, instead of just reading about them in the pages of history books.

You're only young once, so don't just sit at home. Get out and live a little!

They're okay people, so long as they keep their power level down. They do make some of the best cringe material. I'm talking Grade-A, toe-curling cringe. Amazing.

Also, if any of you say the furry fandom isn't all that sexual, you're a fucking liar. I've seen that shit, I know how it is, so don't lie to me.

The fur suits kinda creep me out, but other than that I don't really have any problems. I kinda don't get how the fandom came to be since it's not centered around any piece of media or something like that.

I think that the community is awesome and they are super sweet people, but I honestly find them a little creepy. I mean, I'm all for people who are into drawing them and stuff it it kind of freaks me out when I see a furry in the whole suit.  :o ... then again, I've always been scared of people in costumes!

I am a furry, so I obviously don't care. I like it, it's cool. And yes, I am interested in the r34 aspect. I'm interested in it of both of these fandoms. Aside from that, I haven't really done anything involving the fandom, considering I'm 13 and can't go to conventions or get a fursuit. Also, it's pretty neat that Disney gave us a movie (sort of). Though there is some r34 already.

I'm fairly sure a man by the name of "Walt Disney" started that, and then came a flood of cartoons featuring anthropomorphic animals such as The Looney Tunes, everything in the world of mickey mouse, and MLP.

So to recap, I'm fairly sure furries are the spawn of a cartoonist :P

I'm indifferent to it. I know that there are some bad parts but that comes with any fandom. I really do like those costumes though so much effort, time, and skill must go into making them.

I like how the topic asks your opinion on furries but constantly dismisses every negative opinion as "stereotypes" and "inaccurate" and insists that it's just people hating furries for no reason as if there is no legitimate reason to dislike them and there is 100% no truth to any of the common negative opinions on furries. Why make a topic asking for opinions when you really only clearly wan to hear positive ones?

There are plenty of legitimate issues with the furry fandom and I'll leave it at that before someone says "that's every fandom" like that's some kind of excuse.

I like how you say there are legitimate issues with furries, yet you just say "I'll leave at that" with no explanation as to what the issues with them are.

On second thought, I don't like it all. It's pretty hypocritical, actually.

I was taught that in certain situations ( this being one of them) If you can't say anything nice, don't say it. So i won't state my opinion.

you basically did state your opinion, or atleast implied it.

How is that hypocritical? I merely left it alone for the sake of not starting a huge argument. The person asked for opinions of furries but was dismissing any opinion that wasn't overtly positive, so it defeated the purpose of asking a question.

That being said, there are obviously legitimate issues with furries.

you basically did state your opinion, or atleast implied it.

And this is why I didn't list said legitimate issues because people get offended or defensive for no real reason when said opinions are not even directly stated, so I can only imagine how bent out of shape they get when they are. Look dude, the topic asks "what is your opinion on furries", not "please give positive opinions on furries". It's asking a question and when you ask a question you shouldn't bother asking if you are afraid to receive answers.

So here is goes since you clearly want to know:

There are legitimate issues with the furry community. I don't think I need to even point that out for people to know the furry community has a terrible reputation and has done tons of insane stuff. If I recall they have been caught having fur sex in a public place, they have been banned from places before and there is an insane amount of porn. And any time someone points any of this out, someone screams "VOCAL MINORITY" but the thing is: they are still problems, big or small.

But something you need to understand: acknowledging problems within the furry community does NOT mean I hate all furries. Not even close. I have some great friends who are furries and they do their thing and I don't bother them about it. Know who I DON'T respect though? The self righteous people who act like furries are a universal good and they are the ones making the shit look good and assuming anyone who doesn't like furries or has any criticisms about furries is a bigot or asshole.

Like your thing, and just leave it at that. I don't hate anyone for being a furry, I hate their attitude about it and their inability to admit that furries could ever do something bad. I love Homestuck, but I can admit the Homestuck fandom does a lot of retarded stuff. Just own it.

I don't go around getting upset at anyone who dislikes Homestuck fans, because I understand that there are some of us who are annoying as hell and by getting pissed off at the people who are annoyed by that, I'm actually making their opinion of the fandom WORSE by being a douche about it instead of just being like "well you like your thing, I like mine. I'm sorry sometimes people are douches to you." I've had furries shove their porn in my face when I asked them not to and when I have told other furries they insisted it's because I'm "closed minded" and that I am just a furry hater. Only my friends who happen to be furries have ever stopped and went "I'm sorry that happened to you. I wish crap like that didn't happen, and it annoys me that we have people in our own community without decency." And you know what that did for me? It made me feel better about the community AS A WHOLE. Not getting defensive and dismissing ANY AND ALL bad actions furries may partake in.

That's my biggest issue with furries, they seem to carry a self fulfilling victim complex. When you go around looking for reasons to be offended, you just make people dislike you more. Point and case, this topic. I made this post MONTHS ago. This topic was virtually dead for nearly 3 months now and you felt it necessary to bring it back to tell me that you disliked that I said something even remotely negative about furries, when you could have left it alone. But you didn't, so you went out of your way to find someone to have a bone to pick with. THAT is what bothers me about furries, you can't take someone just not liking your thing and not even ACTIVELY doing anything about it and even willing to say "I'll leave it alone" and leave that be, no you need to poke the fire and more so, you need to get all huffy and throw gasoline on said fire. Then when the fire comes you sit there going "WHY IS THERE THIS FIRE HERE!? I DON'T UNDERSTAND!?"

Hypocritical is asking a question and only wanting specific answers. You're not asking a question, you're asking people to repeat your opinion then. This is not an echo chamber and people have the right to dislike your thing, they have the right to think it's stupid and they have the right to have bad experiences with your thing acknowledged and not just dismissed and brushed under the rug.

So, did you still want more of an explanation or does that suffice?

1.Okay, I suppose I mused the word "hypocrite".

2.I never said people should only give positive views on furries.

3.Okay, I suppose I was generalising your opinion a little too much.

4.As for the "victim complex" thing with Furries: Alright it exists, not denying that, but I wasn't victimising myself.

I'm not saying that no furries did bad things. Furries who do bad things are the wrong, simple. I won't defend them.
