gaming Most disappointing game you have ever played?

Just to contribute to the echo, World of Warcraft can be an extremely disappointing experience if you don't have any friends playing the game and you have no interest in joining guilds.

Other than that, the most disappointing game I ever played was Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Playing that game after replaying the fire emblem gained that have been released for the Nintendo Wii was a huge disappointment. The plot sucked, the characters were insanely boring, and the Wi-Fi gaming was fairly disappointing.

I can't remember the most disappointing game, but 2 games I was disappointed with were Homefront and Medal of Honor. Also, I could never get into Morrowind, but LOVED Oblivion and Skyrim. Does that count?

EDIT: Just remembered a big one: Metro 2033. Loved STALKER, thought it would be like that, but ended up being a huge letdown.

Syndicate.

I can't exactly call it a disappointment because I had no expectations, and only rented it, but it seemed like the most generic, boring game in the universe.

  • 4 years later...

Most of the Star Fox series. Adventures at least did kind of its own thing, but it got lazy later on. Assault was really short and at times seemed unfinished. Command had some good parts, like multiple playable characters, but was kind of monotonous. And Zero had a horrible control scheme that almost made me quit the game after one level.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The campaign was way too easy for me (I literally beat it in 6 hours. MW2 took me like 12 or 13...), and it lacked any significant value of any kind. Also, the balancing was far worse than in MW2 in my opinion. Though this may be me seeing that Call of Duty as a series is complete trash, I don't know.
  • Grand Theft Auto 4. To be honest, I have no idea why this game was rated so highly by basically every critic it came across. The game, in general, was boring to me. I couldn't play it for more than 45 minutes without getting completely and utterly bored with it. Others in the series probably aren't much better.
  • Fable 3. The game was far too easy. I played Fable 2 before it which was fine (aside from the "Final Boss Fight" that was a complete joke)...
  • Halo 2. It's what happens when you borrow a game from a friend that overhyped it, basically. Plus, I felt like the plot was incoherent.
  • Tomb Raider: Legend. The control scheme was somewhat awkward (I was playing on a PC port, but it's not because I "wasn't used to it"), the plot made no sense whatsoever, the port had issues with bugs, and on top of all of that, there's one part that's literally impossible (I even followed walkthroughs for it, step by step)... Sad, really.
  • Brink. I shouldn't have expected nearly as much as I did... I think it wasn't actually bad, but just okay at best.

Mario Galaxy 2. That was the last straw with the underwhelming WII games. I know from the technical point of view, it's great, but it lacked soul. Mario Galaxy had flaws too, but I feel that game was made with TLC, but it's sequel had all that missing. I was so disappointed that I  outright hate it and made me quit WII altogether  . I felt scammed

Starfox Zero. I waited 10 years since Command for a new game an all I got was another goddamn remake of Starfox 64(we just got SF643D), and it was one of the worst examples of forced motion controls in a game that made it more of a chore to play. A colossal waste of both Nintendo EAD and Platinum's talent

I'd gladly take another Adventures, Assault or Command over another SF64 remake or whatever the hell Zero was

State of Decay: Lifeline.

For those who are fans of the 2013 zombie survival game State of Decay, being offered a new map, new story, new characters and new weapons in Lifeline was huge. And is it a good game? Yes it is! It's just lacking in some aspects, but it is by no means a bad game.

My biggest problem was the map itself. Yes, they did make a new map for us, but of the entire map (which was a reasonably large city), you could only actually explore around 40% of it. Technically more, but 60% of the map is covered by this thing called the "Danger zone" (insert Kenny Loggins reference here). What happens there is, the zombie spawns increase dramatically, so you're dealing with endless spawns, and you are also much more likely to encounter multiple freak zombies, which have been known to rip the most talented player to shreds if you're caught with your pants down. There is no loot in the danger zones, no interiors to buildings, and no reason to spend more than two minutes in them. They are thinly disguised invisible walls constructed likely because the developers couldn't afford to make a full map. For something that promised a new map, this is especially troubling and a huge let down.

And that’s the bottom line, ‘cause Stone Cold said so!

Probably Destiny. The game was fun for a few hours, then it got really stale and repetitive fighting the same enemies over and over, same missions, bullet sponge bosses, etc.

Oh, and Metroid Other M. That was a really really disappointing game, as a huge fan of the series, was a slap in the face after the amazing Prime trilogy. And then Federation Force came out and I was like "what the fuck?" Which I refuse to play.

I have a few different ones:

Pokemon Coliseum: This game is the apogee of lost potential. Since this was before the days of me of having internet and I knew little about the game, I thought this was going to be the first ever 3D Pokemon adventure game. So like the handheld games but in 3D! The ads made it look like that and it had everything it needed to be just that. Instead, it was a very linear, boring 'adventure' that had barely any real feel of the original games and a very limited amount of Pokemon to use. It was just dumb. Which is a shame because I loved the idea around the plot, actually playing as a bad guy.

Megaman X2: This is a game that simply pales in comparison to the near perfection of the original. I found the boss weapons to be incredibly dull, the difficulty spikes to be unfair and I couldn't get into it at all.

Thrillville: A theme park creating game made by the original team that made Rollercoaster Tycoon and it was on consoles! This should have been fantastic! Instead they went in a very strange route, focusing more on minigames and not on building the park itself. In comparison to RCT, it was basically worthless and since it came from that exact team, it hurt even more.

The Sims 2 (Console Version): Seriously, what the hell happened here? Now, we all know that in those times, the console versions of the Sims games would not be able to stand up to the PC releases, but they could have at least TRIED. This game was a cookie cutter, completely torn down version of what the original game was. No multi-level houses, restricted customization and NO KIDS WHATSOEVER. This game was absolutely abysmal and it is one of the reasons why I LOVE the console version of The Sims 3. That game isn't perfect, but it is a masterpiece compared to The Sims 2.

Battlefield Bad Company 2: Don't get me wrong, this game IS better than the first one on basically every single aspect, except for one: The story. I felt that the story and the characters here were completely ruined. The game went into this super serious route and had the characters randomly say 'fuck' just to get an M rating, all just to capitalize on the popularity of Modern Warfare 2, which released months earlier. The first game was so light-hearted in tone and fun and it was such a great shakeup for the genre, then the second game killed that vibe entirely.

Dragonball Z Taiketsu: I for some reason really looked for to this game. A GBA DBZ fighting game? Awesome! That should work, right? Well, eventually it did, but not here. This game was just bad. The graphics were ugly, the sound was horrendous and there was no real strategy and it never felt like a DBZ game. I am honestly shocked how well Supersonic Warriors later turned out, that game was damn good.

I played Off the Rails' DS port and, yeah, it was absolute garbage.

Taiketsu has that really bad "fake 3D" aesthetic that was so horrifyingly ugly and was almost a surefire way to know if a game on the GBA was shit(I say almost because Golden Sun also had a similar aesthetic and those games were fantastic)

The fact that the game was made by the same developer who made Legacy of Goku 2(which was surprisingly great) is even more shocking

So far one of the most disappointing video games I have played would have to be Adventure Time Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know.

I already liked Adventure Time Ice King Why Did You Steal Our Garbage, so when I heard there was going to be another game I was looking forward to it.

Then I played it, and was let down by the really monotonous gameplay and gave up after a while.

Probably The Sims 4.

I'm a huge fan of The Sims, but The Sims 4 is for me the worst of all. I loved The Sims 1, 2 (probably my favourite) and 3. I have The Sims 2 with all expansions, and The Sims 3 too, with all expansions, but I think The Sims 4 have less content than the past The Sims games. That's why The Sims 4 is probably the most dissapointed game I've ever played.

Fallout 3

I was dissapointed by the theme park experience bethesda provided me with. As if the originals wouldn't take themselves lightly already, this game supposed a parody of a parody. Setting, story, factions, some of which were present on previous games. Oversimplified and incongruent. Not to mention the gunplay.

Obsidian addressed the issue with a worthy successor. At least in my view.

Probably The Sims 3: Pets on PS3. It simply sucked, I played it for 5 hours total before stopping forever.

I'm big fan of Sims 2 so it was really disappointing.

I would agree, it's up there with Animal Crossing City Folk. Both games suffer from the same problems actually: They're a watered down version of previous titles in really bad ways with nothing much new of value added.

The Sims 4 is more unforgivable, though. Seeing as I've played The Sims since 2003/2004, and have bought all of the EPs for the previous The Sims titles, a game like The Sims 4 just doesn't work. So much money has been spent on this franchise. The Sims 4 offers no reason for me to move to it. It does very little of value in comparison to The Sims 3.

I see it as a good thing, though for a variety of reasons:

-I don't have much money to spend for now.

-EA's tactics with delaying features like Seasons which are as natural as the cycle of day to night for years is incredibly frustrating. Plus, I don't want to have to pay for Pets, Vacation, etc., again. These features should be implemented in the base game by now. The fact that The Sims 4 doesn't matter to me, also means I'm free from these frustrations.

-PCs to run these games properly are too expensive. I hate gaming on PCs. I'm so happy I don't have to think about that for a while.
