health How do you feel emotionally during the hoildays?

I know some people do generally feel very bad around the hoildays, and I am not talking about feeling like you're at the edge, but, do you try to stay very happy around the hoildays, or is it hard for you, such as holiday sadness being a seasonal thing in the winter?

I'm really trying to stay happy in general, but I do have seasonal depression it seems, so it's not always good for me. About 80% of the time though, I'm happy because the holidays are coming up.

I'm not a very social person, and luckily (is it lucky?) for me my family is pretty small so not many people come up on Thanksgiving or Christmas.  Though I think I do feel the winter blues as well because of how early it gets dark.  I generally try to stay happy and appreciate how thankful I am for everything.

I also get depression at Seasons, where its mostly dark.

Most of my Holidays are very boring, since apart from Family, i have no one to celebrate with.

Also, on pretty much every Christmas in my Childhood, i had to trow up.

Every Christmas.

Funny thing is, at one Christmas, i prayed to god that the pain should stop and since then i was never sick again at Christmas.

Thats a Prove that he exists! Write in the History Books, ITS PROVED!

Na okay, maybe it was just a coincidence.

But i still have depression, specially now, since i get stressed out at Home

Also, most of the time i just sit at home...so...im not really experiencing any Christmas Stuff.

I tend to get depressed sound this time because my grandparents passed away around this time. I just really miss them and wished to have known my grandfather more who passed on when I was 6.

I know its kinda dumb to be upset for that but its hard not to.

Holidays were something that once made me incredibly happy. Christmas was my favorite time of year and the excitement I felt for it was immense. Didn't matter if something else was bothering, my excitement for that holiday would always bring me back up.

Nowadays, it isn't the same. Now holidays honestly give me a sense of sadness, because I feel like the good days of those holidays are gone for me. Christmas will never be the same for me, nor will any other holiday. So I try to be as happy as I can be around these times but they are mostly a source of sad thoughts.

as i said in another post im an Orphan with two living family members so to me its any other day last time i got an Xmass present  or a card was probably when i was 10 which was 14 years ago

past three years i was away doing Army stuff so i guess i didn't think about it because they're my Family now but this year i'll be home at the moment i don't feel "Xmassy" nor do i feel sad but as everyone begins to rub "family family family" in my face that may change

I feel like whatever

For me, holidays is like any other days, the difference is that i get to stay at home

Maybe i could spend more time with my family, but tbh i prefer staying on the internet

Pretty happy, but anyone outside my direct family doesn't celebrate some of the holidays that come around this time because they're Asian. While Christmas and New Years are sometimes celebrated, Thanksgiving is usually not. Chinese New Year is celebrated, though, and the next one is around Feburary 2017 (it's based off the Lunar Calendar, not the regular calendars we use).

The cold winter does trigger my asthma, though. Thankfully I live in CA, so it isn't too bad.

The colder weather and the earlier darkness honestly makes me feel better. Maybe I'm a bit of a weirdo, but cold, dark, and quiet is what I adore, much more than the bright, horribly hot days we usually get here. Plus, I get some free money to buy stuff with on holidays from family, so that's nice.

Other than that though...My mood doesn't really go up a whole lot, it just stays where it usually does, which is fairly down.

I feel pretty cheerful during the holidays. Beforehand, it can be stressful preparing for them, but holiday festivities and decorations put me in a good mood (so long as the same five Christmas songs aren't on repeat!). :)

last year was terrible, but i was in a bad place really. I do get seasonal depression, as my sister tells me, but its not bad enough to actually get at me, except for last year when I was living with my now ex. I get horrendous homesickness and living half way across the country from my family was not fun for me. It was the first time i'd ever cried on Christmas Eve.

I had a job that forced me to work all through Christmas and didnt get to see my family until new years so that added to the misery. Plus his family do Christmas so differently to mine. They go out, get drunk on Xmas Eve then open all their presents at Midnight, which means theres nothing to open when you wake up the next day. They also all slept in from hangovers on Xmas morning and the only thing was the lunch. I got to Skype my family, but it just wasnt the same as actually being there. v.v

but this year is already proving to be a big improvement, im with a guy i Love to bits, we moved back to my hometown and we're at my Parents' for Christmas. so things be looking up. too early to see if the seasonal depression hits me, im hating the winter already but its not affected my mood.

I tend to feel quite a bit better during the holiday season, at least as the Christmas actually approaches. To me it's just a time of family reunion and catching up with relatives from all over, sharing stories and presents. It just feels like a pleasant time of the year. The Christmas music comes on the radio, houses become lit up at night, and a warm fire sometimes greets you at home, ready to bathe you in warmth on a cold night. It's pretty blissful. :D

I feel pretty good about the holiday season. In truth, I really love it. In recent years I've gotten a bit overwhelmed by having too much to do in too short a time, but I'm learning to manage it better and having more fun. I love being with family, taking a step outside the normal year-long routine and revisiting some nostalgic times from my youth. It really is a beautiful time of year.  :twi:

I've been pretty indifferent to the holidays these past few years, as I've either been too unemployed and looking for work or working during that particular holiday to care.

I hope I can change that in the future, though, as I don't want to waste my whole life being tethered to a chair!

I tend to feel a bit depressed around holidays like US Thanksgiving or Christmas because those were days I'd spend with family but due to family drama, people drifted apart one way or another and now that my family has disowned me, I feel a bit isolated this time of year.  I guess family isn't always blood though, right?  So I guess I have a chance at making my own family now ...?

I don't have a big family but I have a few good friends which help and a good boyfriend.   I made up help me with my tree last year and he had fun doing the whole thing!   So I don't mind this season at all!
