general Collections before pony

Did anyone here collect anything before ponies invaded pop culture? I remember that I used to collect Beanie Babies (still have quite a few of them), and Yu-Gi-Oh/Pokemon cards. Also, manga, but to a much lesser extent.

Absolutely - all kinds of merchandise related to the Disney character Stitch. I still do and I recently got a hoodie and a new plush to join the collection too.

Tamagotchis are also things I've collected before ponies.

I think I still have a basket of stuffed dogs somewhere but those were from a very long time ago.  I have a lot of other collections as well which are mainly historical stuff like Cameras, Magazines, Bank Notes, Pennies (I have all the Canadian ones from 1837-2012 minis variations and provincial versions for every year.), Projectors (only 4 though) and a bunch of 78 records.

I have never collected ponies in my life, since most of the merch doesn't meet my high quality standards. Pokemon/ You Gay Hoe cards were my shit back when I was in elementary-middle school tho :o

I have like 10 huge tins full of old school Yu-gi-oh cards and 3 binders of Pokémon. Lots of really rare stuff too. Pokémon was never really my style in terms of the game itself; I only collected them to collect. Yu-gi-oh was something I collected to actually use against other players. Back then, me and my friends/ acquaintances made it a rule not to use any of the reprints in our duels. We felt it was as bad as using counterfeit cards; the rare cards should be difficult to acquire was our mental process lol. Made duels far more exciting; seeing what new rare cards they got their hands on since the last time I saw em ^^

I used to buy manga when I got slightly older, but not to the extent that I would call it "collecting" persay. Have only like 15 manga volumes total, so... yeah lol (most of them being obscure shit like Mahoromatic for example).

I always wanted to get into anime figure collecting but it is just too damn expensive... -.-. I prefer to spend my cash on electronics with actual functionality rather than something that just sits there and looks pretty but costs 300$ xD

I dont have much of any collections of poni. Well besides like 5, foot tall plush and digital fan art.

What I do or have collected before and still do now are Sonic games and merch (I preordered Sonic Mania in October I think) and I've got a Sonic plush and other things. I'm looking for it but I want a factory sealed copy of all the genesis Sonic games. Not too difficult or expensive either.

I also finished collecting all 50 US State Quarters. Well most of them. I've technically got all the states but am missing two of the US Territory coins "Northern Mariana Islands" and "American Samoa". I could easily buy both for a few bucks off the internets but where's the fun that!. I collected them the old fashioned way. Went to the laundromat, 7-11 and just general purchase change. I spent only a year and a half getting that far so I'm willing to take a few years to wait and see if I can find the last 2 I need.

Books, Magic the Gathering cards, vinyl anime & gaming figures, horror & monster figures and statues, music (cds, vinyl & magazines), video games, 3D puzzles, original artwork from artists I have gotten to know... and of course some MLP stuff now.

Considering I'm an older collector not exactly. Ponies were also my gateway to Model Horse Collecting. Lots of horse crazy little girls start with MLPs.

I guess stuffed animals when I was little. But those were mostly because of gifts from relatives. What kid doesn't love them?

Dinosaurs. I used to want to be a paleontologist, so I had tons of plastic dinosaurs and a really cool plastic fossil kit that let you make dinosaurs and a wooly mammoth skeleton, or even create your own monsters.

I've always been into seashells and rocks and never stopped loving or collecting them. Even if I had to start over several times.

I had tons of toy animals.

McDonalds toys. I still like them.

Disney. Toys, Collectable Glasses, removable wall stickers, books, movies, posters.

I actually used to collect a lot of stuff like that. I had a pretty big collection of seashells and conches, including a really beautiful purple shaded horse conch. I also collected fossils and dinosaur bones and teeth.  I know the feels about having to start over.  :adorkable:

That is awesome. I'd love to see your collection.

Also *hugs* restarting collections, especially one like a rocks/shells/fossils collection is the pits.

I used to collect Star Wars action figures and hang them up on my wall.

Awesome! That's exactly what I do with mine! It's a great way to store and display them. I have a very large Star Wars collection which I've been adding to since I was little. My favorites are the small 3 3/4" action figures. I currently have 1,013 of them MOC and another 500 or so loose vintage ones. I only have 6 original vintage on card; they're just soooo expensive!

I've tried to break the collecting habit over the years (and the high prices helped quite a lot with that) but one never truly walks away completely from Star Wars toys.  :please:

I wonder if there's a Star Wars Anonymous support group out there. :rarity:

I collected (and still do!) figurines of various cartoon characters (like the Disney Infinity ones, Funkos, Pokemon figures from Tomy or Bandai, etc.).

Also, anything related to gryphons.  :squee:

I have collected since I was a young boy, I started in the year 2000 with Hotwheels. My first Hotwheels I collected was all 4 of the "Hot Rod Magazine" edition Cars, I recieved for Christmas from my Grandmother. that Christmas, I looked at that set, and from then on, I decided to start a collection .My dad smiled, and later showed me his own collection. Even my brother Got into it . If we put our collections together,  as of now, it would be thousands.

I also started on my Video game Console and Vintage Computer Collection as a young age, starting with a Super Nintendo, and going from there. Now, I have many different consoles and computers, spanning from PONG Consoles of the 1970s, and an Apple IIe, to the Xbox 360. This includes a Commodore SX-64, an ultra rare variant of the Commodore 64 in a "Suitcase", so you could use it at work!

I used to collect stickers with soccer players when I was a kid. Expanded my dad's collection of two huge albums. They were a novelty in the 90s in my country.

Then I collected pokemon stuff in the beginning of 00s, but the craze soon died out.

When I was a kid, I collected rocks.  :maud:

I would also collect bugs and insects and put them in my mini bug/insect habitat containers. I do remember collecting Breyer horse figures as well! :P
