Say you were given a choice, between a smartphone/ mobile device, one from 10 years ago but never needed to be recharged ever, or a device from 10 years in the future, but only has half an hour of battery life.

Which would you choose?

And in case your wondering, yes the old phones software will still function and will be compatible w/ today's internet and networks, but will have the same apps as then, the same internal memory and the same processing speeds as then. While future phone will take 3 hours to charge.

I would take the fancy future phones, as long as the battery technology can withstand that many charges over a long period of time. Since I rarely leave home as it is, I could keep the thing charged pretty easily. And who knows, by then phones might be able to cook pizza for us. Can't pass that up. :P

I would honestly never want a smartphone of any type, period.

But if I had to choose between newer and older tech, I would obviously go with the future route :o I am fueled by technological progress /)^3^(\

Joke's on you. My phone's already 10 years old. Give me the one with the infinite battery. I really only use my phone to listen to music and talk to people, anyway.

I have a Galaxy Note 4 and i absolutely love the thing but honestly i could live with a 10 year old phone with eternal battery life. Right now however i have outfitted my Note 4 with a 10000Mah aftermarket battery so i guess in terms of smartphone battery life its practically eternal since i can get about 3 days give or take out of a single charge.

How does it take 3 hours to charge a phone that has to be recharged every 30 minutes?

I went through 8th grade and most of high school with only a little slide phone, so I can manage with something that isn't all that sophisticated. Plus, who says I can't keep the old phone and also carry my iPad around? The only thing I would really lose is Snapchat since it isn't available on tablets, and even then that was kind of a fad for me... I used it to death for months and then got bored.

I would go with the old phone and eternal power. I don't like technology (even the ten year old stuff) and the stuff ten years from now will likely perplex me even more. The more advanced technology gets, the less It seems to work for me and the less I like it. If I had my way, technology would be reset all the way back to the 1980s when the world was blissfully devoid of smartphones altogether.

Split on this one.

I used to have an old, non-smartphone nokia (s40 os) that had insane battery life (multiple days of normal usage) but had no internet access.

Moved to a S4/android and fairly rapidly started playing Ingress - now, that eats battery like it's a starving horse in a hay barn, as it uses almost constant data and gps; I got used to game play involving me having an external battery pack to keep it topped off while I roamed the streets, And I do like the feature set.

So I think I would prefer the short battery life one, purely because I can compensate by using a battery pack.

if im allowed to keep my Samsung Tocco then ok. I already live with a useless smartphone that barely holds battery, would rather that ended than keep fighting it.

The older phones are just as good anyway. I can call, text and take photos with them, sorted. The new ones are more so to use the apps which I can go without. Pretty much do all the stuff on PC anyway

I'm split. On one hand, I hardly use a phone, so the decades old is normally enough for me. On the other hand, there are a couple of apps that I can't use on the old one, like Fire Emblem Heroes, or browse the internet

  • 3 years later...

honestly I'd put up with an old nokia or some shit like that,
my nokia I bought for games for the older mobiles, is a little older than 10 years old now,
but here's the thing, even with a 12yr old battery it lasts around 2 solid days with regular usage, and has (most) of what I use my mobile for.

yeah, I'd just put up with having to bring a laptop for decent internet access or wait till I get home and use my desktop
