Of course I own my own musings. Input my name on it every time. I consume media, and I either like it or I don't. If I do like it I consider why (briefly). If I don't like it I consider why not (again briefly). Why brief? Because the most important cost is opportunity cost. Simply put, I have more important things to do than to allow obsessive thoughts over a cartoon, or allow the delusion that I can actually influence the people that run the pony show beyond the throwaway gag or reference. I mean, as I've said before ... they know that half the fandom dislikes Starlight. They don't care. They keep doubling down with the character. 

Amusingly, if they write Starlight out of the show, and did so in a clever manner, I'd be ok with that. I apply actual life lessons to entertainment. Things change and evolve. If I don't like how they change ... I can be an adult and opt out and find a plethora of other things to occupy my time. 

Life can be brutal and short, and the things I would allow to be valued enough to keyboard rage about are always measured against life experiences -- of which the narrative impact of the show on my emotions is rather inconsequental. 

My real take away from this toon is that I met people I actually enjoy talking to personally. Can episodes be phenomenal? Absolutely. Can episodes suck? Yep. Am I going to dedicate any real effort to get into the weeds? Fuck no. As the saying goes, I'd rather be fishing. And no I'm not ambivalent, I certainly have passion, but I also have perspective.

Unnecessary. I do apologies, though. I mistook those lines as an invitation for a broader discussion. However, judging from all these juicy paragraphs I wasn't that far away from the truth.

 

We people do many different things in our free time.  Life is brutal and short indeed, often even shorter than your own experiences would have you believe, but if you wish to take it all in you must make a few turns here and there. Ponies in general are what one would place in the category of "stupid shit". All the rage and joy here are not due to necessity. They are a necessity. It has always been so, and it shall be so long after we're all fairly dead. A touch of death does tend to make you see things differently, but in the end even such an approach is not without faults. Her touch can also make one dull and blind. So you can take that perspective of yours and replace a few broken lenses, if you're not too busy rushing towards your end, of course.

I look at it this way.  They may go a two-parter route with the S8 premiere , or this could be setup for a season long arc. A season long arc that spread out properly could have lasting affects going forward.  In other words, with this season be 26 episodes long, they can spread this out throughout the season, by having every other episode (3-6 episodes in-between) be significant to the arc.  And when they get to the finale for the season, that's where the payoff could really benefit from, should they (the writing staff) execute this arc right, and not hot shot it in the premiere.

As to who could be involved along with QC, I put money on Triek as being the main baddy.  In fact, if bronies and pegasisters are fearful that QC will be reformed finally, than if Triek is part of this in some way, than there's your answer. You want a good example, check out what happened to Discord in the S4 finale, when he thought he could trust Triek.

As far as Starlight goes, if she becomes the main hero again , expect her to get the alicorn treatment at the end, or at the beginning of Season 9 (which I still believe there will be one) ala the same way Twilight did at the beginning of S4.

I also expect (and I don't why I have this feeling), but I expect a possibly hint at fusion coming into play for the Mane 6 and Starlight in this season , or least being discussed among the Mane 6, Starlight, Spike, Celestria, Luna and Cadance, for possibly and to happen in S9 (which I still believe is going to happen).

But those are just my two cents. What do you guys think? God Bless!

Some do. Hasbro does in some cases, like when they pushed for Episode 100. DHX can be a little more sensitive to some elements of the fandom. That said, some in this fandom have an elevated sense of self-worth and due believe that they can push Hasbro to alter the direction of something that they and DHX decided on. Hasbro does care about their customers and investors enough to have valued the parent segment against the adult fandom segment. They value one far greater than the other. 

 

Backing up, did this school idea come from something the staff mentioned, in a press release, or is it just speculation on the investor preview image? I'm having a hard time sourcing this outside of this topic.

My late wife was preceded in death by our two youngest children (Bailey at a few days old and Jaden at four months old). Death doesn't touch me, it kinda embraces me in a costly hug. I can't ignore that it is also oddly beneficial -- considering that I would not have married and started the family I did if my terminally ill pops didn't check out on his own terms forcing me back to Florida to make sure my kid sis would be okay. When I suggested life is short, it wasn't just a trite expression.  

Lots of tragedy I suppose, but I have yet to be pulled down by it. To the contrary, I revel in life. I quite the Twilight length list of hobbies, interests, and goals. That's what I mean by busy. This current hurricane that ran through my State added one technology based project to my list that might make people's planning a bit easier. I'm not busy with the mundane day to day. I'm also busy with the interesting stuff. 

Pony does occupy some of my thoughts, and the thoughts and speculation of unaired episodes can be a guilty pleasure, and some episodes like Perfect Pear invite a lengthier exploration. Episodes I either adore, or find legitimate annoyance with, will generate far more discussion from me. Season 8 intrigues me because of the unknowns, so I'm certainly no different than others who dwell on FiM. I just budget how much time I spend on mediocre and average episodes, and other hobbies get more time. 

Trust me, I'm hoping that this Season 8 episode has something unique that we haven't seen, but I'm not going to break my time budget bank over DHX repeating a concept. If they repeat the "Starlight saves the day" thing, it won't make the episode better. That much I can agree with. 

At the moment I more annoyed at the fact that I'm wasting time trying to find where I put my glass more than I would be wasting it talking about pony.

It's speculation based on the image as well as a line from the animatic where Chrysi says, "The Canterlot Historical Society is thrilled to document the friendship work your teachers do." And since she's taking pictures of the main 6 plus Starlight, sort of, I assume it means Twilight and her friends are going to be the teachers.

The only thing that gives me hope, is that she took a wisp of hair from the mane six.

Maybe she use the hair to created changelingclons, who can use the elements of harmony against everyone. Discord back to stone, Celestia and Luna banished to the moon and the everfree forest goes wild again. That would be a awesome final of the show.

Don't take this the wrong way but I really don't give a damn. I thought this was show discussion. Instead I got this dude over here shifting between the show and his RL like a champ. Was it really that hard to produce those last few sentences without all the "I'm busy" bull? I mean, you are writing whole essays to a random annon on a fan forum for imaginary talking horses. Whatever it is you have in your RL is undoubtedly not so universally important that I should be made aware of it, but if you do think that I should be informed you can always send me a private message.

Professional text to speech is magic. Saves boat loads of time. Helps tremendously when you are a freelancer, single parent, hosting families without power, and managing the hurricane cleanup at several residential locations. Yeahhhhhhhh, I'm busy. Anyone who knows me personally on here can confirm that. When I was staff I believe my ability to manage my day to day life and this community was something of discussion point at times. According to my Skype logs, either I was masochistic, a genius, or never slept.

I feel it helps the discussion when presented with an individual's underlying thoughts and philosophies, since that can add some nuance to the opinion about the show, otherwise a discussion on the show can ultimately wind up being what amounts to people dropping their opinions off at the door and walking away. The personal touch not only suits me, but in some round about way it matches the nature of this show. You might me anonymous, but over two dozen members here know me personally so I do not and will not carry myself if a protective way. I told you ... I do own what I say. My kids also are members here so being anything other that myself would seem oddly disingenuous to them as well. I'm all about the personal touch, and I'm all about cultivation of real actual friendships on here. 

And of course I wouldn't take it the wrong way, I have a high tolerance for things that would bother others -- perspective perhaps? Hard to say. Either way, we all have agency. With some members I only converse with them when I am engaged by them directly, so should my replies give you indigestion, there is a logical remedy for that. 

I stand by my casual opinion on Starlight and this preview. The great annoyance some fans derive from plot elements which elevate her at the expense of the other characters is one that I don't share. When I am annoyed with the show I'm not going to exert energy railing about it. It's just not who I am. I'm looking forward to this episode, fairly simple.

This has all the markings of a repeat of Mirror magic or to where and back again; chrysalis stole all of the mane six's hairs BUT starlight, and basically telegraphed a "I'm doing something to get rid of everyone BUT starlight and she'll end up foiling me!" plot. Basically, it looks like we're getting a scenario where chrysalis uses these hairs and the photos to dispose of the mane six, in order to leave starlight alone to stop her, a issue with her in adventure episodes that's starting to get REALLY grating.

 

Not to mention this makes no freaking SENSE. Chrysalis wants revenge on STARLIGHT, not the mane six; Why the hell is she stealing their hairs instead of starlight's? I mean, it could turn out she's going to make voodoo dolls of the mane six with the hair and then use them to control the six to try and kill starlight, but past that she should be focusing on STARLIGHT as her target given her rant.

 

Maybe she has her reasons, but we just have to wait. Maybe it makes a lot of sense, who knows.

I mean technically speaking, even if Chrysalis gets reformed, there is still Tirek in Tartarus who hasn't been reformed yet.

So not every villain would have been reformed even if that were to be the case.

But yeah, I really don't want to see Chrysalis get reformed, seeing how she has shown literally (and I am not using this in a hyperbolic sense, I am using the dictionary definition of the word) zero positive or sympathetic qualities.

It probably wouldn't be McCarthy since she's had limited involvement writing for the show since Season 5. More likely Haber in this instant.
