Your thoughts on School?

am I the only one that thinks school is boring?

yes it's part of life and no way around it, and yes I'm supposed to be thankful because kids in poor countries don't get to go

but it's not fun unless I get to leave and go home to mess with my cassettes and vinyls and 8 tracks and speakers

but uggggg

It could be more important if they taught things we'd actually need later in life. When will we need calculus? Biology?

We could actually use things like learning how to manage money, pay taxes, or have classes you choose based on what you're interested in or related to what you want to do as a job.

Always hated school. Basically 8 hours of a day wasted on 'learning' even though the method of learning is entirely flawed, uninteresting, and hardly useful. I have learned more in the past 6 years out of school than I did in school. School was basically 'here, stress yourself out every day for nothing in return.'

I actually like school :please: of course there are other things I'd rather be doing but I genuinely enjoy the overall routine and believe that working hard in school will pay off in the long run.

...also i'm that insufferable guy who gets immense satisfaction from getting good grades

I loved School, high school only though. I hated primary school and I wasnt going very well with my grades until I hit high school. I met some awesome friends who I share some awesome memories with. A little bit of me wishes I could go back. So I'd say enjoy it whilst you can or at least try to because it's only going to get worse from there:(

Depends on what you want to do.

I use this often enough in programming. I certainly used this with advanced statistics when I worked for Chase and Ford, and Calc was absolutely critical when developing an algorithm for production accounting and workforce forecasting for a large client I had once for a multiple million dollar contract with my old firm. Also, it's kinda important as a Miyagi tool -- wax on, wax off. Show me a person with mastery of calculus and I'll show you a person I am confident has decent analysis abilities.

The foundation of Bio was important for me too. No Bio ... no MCAT happy joy joy score. I presently hold multiple degrees (picking up another A.S. while I speak) and can step into more fields than the average person. While I had some boring ass classes in both High School and College, I tend to love learning.

School is like the prescription medicine that the doctor ordered you. It tastes like burnt rubber and plastic but in the end it was given so your future would be less disease ridden. And like that, the society pays so you can get a better future, and I think that is to be appreciated.

To be completely honest though, I am the guy that takes the medicine but when the doctor looks away I spit it out. This meaning that I usually never do my given homework/assignments and pass everything with abysmal grades.

TL;DR School is cool but I have an attitude problem.

I have never found school to be boring. Furthering your education is never a waste of time. I know a lot of things that have no application to work or day to day living but they do make me a more rounded person. Most people refuse or are incapable of seeing the use of or properly applying most of what they are taught. This is how we ended up with a generation of kids that can't even tell me basic facts about our government or history.

May the Friendship be with you.

Dude I flunked out of middle school. I wasn't eligible for graduation because I failed Chemistry and got a D in everything else but PE. In high school I did OK, but the teachers always got mad at me for not doing my homework and always falling asleep in class. I couldn't help it because I was bored to death and not interested in anything they taught me. The only class I liked was my music class but I hated everything else. But that's fine because I'm a college sophomore now.

Hey man school is a pretty damn terrible place but once you get enrolled into a university things change. You get more freedom now. No more asking the teacher to go pee, you can just walk out and come back on your own free will. You profs actually respect you and don't treat you like some caged up animal. Sometimes they're pretty chill about stuff and you can talk to them about off topic stuff for fun. It's not like in middle school or high school where the staff talks down to you. College isn't perfect though, you'll meet some rather obnoxious people who try to shove their agenda down your throat. But don't worry about them, just study what you like.

I've been out of school for 2 years now (2015 high school graduate), but it's an important part of someone's life. You need to learn not only in school, but for the rest of your life.

I just wish I didn't have the experience I had with school troubles, otherwise I think I could've learned more. :adorkable:

I have about 13 years of school behind me and though I didn't exactly like it, I think it is important part of civilized society. Just as sidenote, I come from country where school is mandatory by law. (to certain age/certain amount of years)

I always liked school because it is yet another opportunity to hang out with your lads and do some crazy stuff.

After going through school in various forms for close to twenty-five years, I can safely say that I enjoyed the overall experience though my younger years in the education system were full of torment against me--bullying if you will. Going to school allowed me to not only understand things I never would have considered before, it also got me out of the house though getting there got tricky in later years. Using buses and the train weren't to my liking.

Not a huge fan of school, but it's an important part of life, and you wouldn't really be able to get a job capable of only supporting yourself without it, to be honest.

I do really think the style of education should change though. Kids need to be kids, and swamping them with work and stressing them out is the worst way for them to spend what's supposed to be their kind of, 'free years'.

I always found school tough... as I didn't really get a chance to showcase myself, and due to my Asperger's and ADHD I often got into bad situations with other kids and teachers or misread situations which made my school life surprisingly lonely. I also hated the authoritarianism of school rules as I got older, which again I felt restricted my ability to be myself. I felt like I was forced to respect people who didn't respect me back... and my standard moral rule is that if you treat me with respect, you get it back from me and I got let down so many times which made me leave the school system for about a year after I struggled with depression following some unsavoury moments regarding other pupils and how the school perceived me.

However, entering Sixth Form College I got exactly what I strived for in an educational environment. The teachers treated me with respect and helped me whenever I wanted it, while also challenging me while I studied subjects I WANTED to learn. It was extremely rewarding, even if I still struggled with emotional issues due to my Mum's ill health and no real social life as a result. University, was a mixed bag for me. I loved its openness and learning but struggled with the depth and complexity of things... got my degree though... even though it nearly cost me my life to do it.

The educational system as a whole for me was one tough SOB with a few glimmering lights to be found amongst a quagmire of worries and problems. I wouldn't change my experience for the world though, as I wouldn't be the person I am or gained the friends I have without it. Then again, I do wish I did more with friends in retrospect... as my social life is still barren.

I think it really depends on the person, some people hated it, some people loved it.  I do feel that it's important for children to appreciate education and form an understanding on it but I think the way some schools deliver their information makes school feel monotonous, making children feel like school is some form of punishment.

That being said, I had a terrible time at school...  I've always felt worthless so why should I bother with something like education that I wasn't even worthy of?  I pretty much went through school with untreated and undiagnosed anxiety and depression which added the frosting on the shit cake also being bullied by other kids really didn't make things any better for me, when I was a kid, I'd have panic attacks just walking to the bus stop because I knew I would have to deal with other kids or I'd cry at the slightest inconvenience because I was already stressed out as it was.  Over the years, I learned to bottle up my emotions to the point that I couldn't even identify what I was feeling when I was actually feeling something(something I still have problems with).  I could go on, I won't though, all-in-all, had a terrible time at school and I've forgotten mostly everything I was taught in school.
