I'm trying to convince one of my friends to watch it and its slowly been working. He hasn't watched an episode yet, but I keep using memes and quotes that he finds hysterical and then flushes with embarrassment to learn that they are from mlp. He'll eventually watch the show, I know that. But he'll never tell any-pony so the next phase will be getting him "come out", so to be speak. ;)

Yes. Four times. All successful.

Well, not like I shoved the episodes in their faces. Since most of them were people I met via art websites; I started drawing ponies more and more and they started asking me about it. Well, 2 out 4 did. I told them it was a really good episode and not as "girly" as they would currently think it was.

The other two I tried coaxing. Mainly saying "it's not girly!" funny how these were females. Both were into "dark" concept things. But after a while they ended up enjoying the show calling it a "guilty pleasure".

I find it funny when people think that because something is "girly" it's suddenly a good reason not to look into something.

I'm not one to push someone into something. But if they put something down before giving it a try and end up liking it; you can bet i'll be in their faces for it. ;D

Here's a video that shows you how. ;) (Go to ~2:44)

P.S. I'm not serious, don't tie up your friends and force them to watch FiM.

Just once, didn't really work out well. He watched the first episode and a half but isn't hooked. He'll be converted eventually. Other than that I havn't tried at all. Figure if Ashleigh Ball can't even convert her boyfriend, what hope do I have?

Tried some of my friends none of them went for it, but they have no problem that I like it so it's all good.

Though I found out one of my friends was already watching the show before me, so that was pretty cool.

In other words, what's your standby method for converting them. For me, I always said to watch "the first six episodes of the show", although I think I can lower it to the first four now, as I think after that you have a fairly good idea of what the show is like (what do you think of that?). So what's your method for converting others. Also, how do you explain liking the show prior to recommending they actually watch the show?

Well, the only two people I've converted I did one by direct talk, AKA "Just watch the show", and the other by literally watching the show with her, so I got quite lucky on both. IF I had to convince harder, probably recommend a few chapters that they would probably like. And if them liking the show isn't possible, then maybe the fandom through brony music.

You take them to a dark alley and beat them. Ruthlessly until they scream... "POTATOES".... And then... Ya gotta be quiet like, real sneaky. And take their hands.

Point being you show them some of your fav epi's, or the most relatable, and hope they catch. You gotta make sure there isnt to many distractions. And dont be too strict about their attention. :)

"Dude, you got anything to do this Saturday?"

"Nothing special, what do ya got in mind?"

"There is this cartoon to show you, ponies!"

"Whaaat? You gay or something?

"Just watch it first damnit, I'll get us some pizza"

I got about half of my guild into MLP just like that. Act casual about it, be nice, and try to reward them when they give the show a chance.

I'm somewhat open about enjoying the show, so I've talked to friends about it from time to time. Like others, I usually just mention it in casual conversation, offer an explanation, and it's up to them if they'd like to try it out. I've had quite a few people tell me later that MLP is "awesome," and that they "can't stop watching."

I've made an attempt to convert pretty much all of my close friends xD with about a 33% success ratio.

I have a somewhat serious discussion, try to clear up any misconceptions, give a couple specific reasons why it's awesome (characters, fan community, etc.). And then I recommend they try watching it, using this argument: If you try it and don't like it, you can confidentally say that your curiosity is sated and move on with life. If you try it and do like it...you're gonna have a great time :D

As a first episode I always recommend they watch Return of Harmony, because it shows the complexity and deepness of the characters. Oh, and because Discord. Just, Discord.

For some bizarre reason, I imagine you being slightly more direct than that, but that's probably me. :P Also, I'd agree this is the best way yeah, and hope they catch on. :) (Also, half your guild?...Wow...that's a lot...depending on how big the the guild actually is, but it's still a lot).

I said and i quote "Dude, just watch the first episode"

Next day...

"Damn it... you didn't tell me it was a two parter, and I didn't want to leave the first episode unwatched, so I watched both... then another, then one more."

Ha, I think I won this round

(I also said specifically to watch lesson zero, just incase.)

Oh boy.

Well the first one was converted after he watched the 5 first eposodes, I said I liked mlp and that it was big on the internet. Then I showed him PONIES The Anthology on YouTube and he liked it to the point that he agreed to watch the first eposodes. The other people just got curious to watch some eps since I talked about it quite alot.

First not let them know that I like the show, just mention a few references, music, perhaps subtle art and such. Then let them figure out that the show exists themselves.

Act as if I just became a fan by saying things like "Wow, there are a lot of great artists out there for this fandom, just look at all the amazing art/music/videos/etc.", After a while I tell them I like the show and suggest that they should watch it too, tell them it isn't what they think it'll be.

If they don't like the show then that's that I guess. If they try to reluctantly not watch the show I keep subtly pushing them until they do. And some downright hate it so I can't help them, just leave them alone, it's not fun to get constantly pushed to watch something you don't want to.

Not everyone will like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, just like not everyone will like my favorite show Futurama, and just like everything in existence.

If you're gonna try convert someone be subtle about it, don't force, that'll just make another hater. Just merely suggest it to them, and if they are interested answer their questions, if not don't bring it up again.

I used to kinda passively hate My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with all the crossovers of Futurama, but then I finally decided to watch the show a few months (April I think) ago from the first episode to see what all the hype is about Ponies on the Internet... and I fell in love with it.

And now I make Futurama and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan fiction.

Haha, I don't believe it...

A russian "friend" I have on Steam, I mean, I talk to him every day nowadays, so I guess, he's got the honer to be called a friend.

At first, when I told him I liked MLP, he was like... Rage, pure rage, he said I was stupid, called me all kinds of names, and how it's for little girls and bla bla bla... He was SO PISSED.

Now, he tells me "Uhm... I'm going to go watch some MLP now..."
