mega thread What book are you reading?

The last book I read was "A Feast for Crows," and that was months ago (unless comic "books" count x3 ).  I...  Lost interest in the ASoIaF book series after that.  I often prefer a good short story to a book; something that doesn't require a bookmark or my slowly whittling away at the remaining pages day after day.  And, lately, I am more inclined to write a story than I am to read one.

I've finished the novels that compose the Riverworld saga, and am now reading all of the collected short stories other authors have written in this universe. Some of them are quite gripping. A few are rather depressing. Some have quite a bit of humor. Take John Lennon missing being able to wear his signature glasses, since those reborn on the Riverworld are granted perfect and healthy bodies. Oh, and Jim Morrison becomes a member of the Church of the Second Chance, and burns down the only rock concert hall on the Riverword, because music is a wasteful distraction on the path of enlightenment!

"The Great Gatsby" and "A Story Of A Girl". We all know what the first one is about, i'm sure, but the second one is about a chick who is called considered a fleuzy because she slept with a senior when she was in middle school, is is basically trying to get her life together. When I say "trying", I mean the main character is so far making some bad decisions that make me want to shake her and be like "STAHP." lol

For AP English I have to be reading 1984 by George Orwell. It's not bad actually! A lot better than Fahrenheit 451. x3

  • 2 months later...

In my personal readings, I just finished Insurgent by Veronica Roth. I saw the movie first before reading the book, pretty much like the Harry Potter books.

In school, I'm reading The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. It is probably the worst thing I have ever read (the way the book is written is amazing, but knowing how our food, mainly our meat, was handled in the early 20th century, is rather disturbing. )

I'm reading a book called Model: A Memoir :) My desperation to read some form of literature again lead me to get a Scribd account and getting a free three month trial. Eventually the collection of books I read lead me to this and it's actually pretty interesting :P

It's about a teenage girl who made it into the modeling industry and is trying to survive the ups and downs of keeping her own place, juggling new responsibilities, money trouble, the crazy world behind modeling etc. :)

I feel pretty inspired by this character because even though she's given alot of crap to deal with at times, she keeps looking forward and maintains her true self through all of it. She knows how to stand up for herself and not be a pushover, and is willing to do alot just to stay on her feet :)

I've been meaning to read The Great Gatsby when I get the chance. I've heard it's a really good book :D

Currently listening to the audio-book of David Mitchells Backstory.

I've got a copy of the book, but never been much of a reader so I went down the audio-book route.

I'm enjoying it, it's funny and interesting and I like how it's written. A memoir of the actor comedians life etc, told through a walk round London to cure a bad back.

I'm reading Animal Farm. It's about a group of farm animals who dethroned their human master after a private meeting with one of the most respected animals of the farm. They claimed the property as their own afterwards and created a society of their own with laws and ethics.

On the topic of Gatsby, his favorite superhero would probably be Green Lantern if he was a comic nerd. Not sure about Deadpool  ;)

I'm currently reading a book I checked out from the local library that's a fantasy novel, called The Darkest Part of The Forest by Holly Black. I really like reading fantasy novels and fiction novels.
