one does not simply start a pc thread and not give their pc specs:

PhenomII 965BE@3.6Ghz watercooled with a Corsair H50

16GB DDR3

Asus Rog Crosshair V motherboard
Powercolor 6990

Creative X-fi Platinum

2X Crucial M4 128GB in Raid-0

Corsair Veangence K90 Keyboard
R.A.T. 9 wireless mouse
Logitech G27 FFB Wheel shifter/pedals
LG 47" 3D TV as my monitor

I think that's it.

I have been waiting for this Thread for so long! :D  But I suggest changing the title to "The Hardware Thread" or similar if that's OK with you. Just a thought.

Anyway, TwilightCircuits is right, so I'm posting my Specs too:

post-9627-0-56524800-1356110785_thumb.png

i3-2310m (2,1GHz)

8GB Kingston HyperX RAM (1600MHz)

Intel HD3000 (1,69GB)

128GB Crucial M4 SSD

Win 8 Pro

12,5" IPS Screen (179° Viewing Angle, 1366x768)

MIL-SPEC tested and water resistant/spill-proof

As for some news, I have heard that 10W ULV Ivy's are gonna be realeased sometime in January.

We can expect some Tablets or Convertibles with strong yet efficient Core i processors to appear around that time, like the ThinkPad Helix with a Core i7 for example.

Hey quick question to all out geeks out there. My current specs are

Custom build.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor

Graphics: On board (PCI Express 2.0 x16 available)
Ram: 4GB Ripjaw
PSU: 400 watt
DVD/CD Drive, from sony
Hard drive: Samsung 500 GB

27" LED TV

OS: Ubuntu

Regular keyboard/mouse

If I am forgetting anything else, say so. I also plan on getting windows.

I plan on getting this graphic card and a 500 watt PSU to help support it. (I also don't trust my current PSU, it sounds like it is about to quit.) Would a 500 Watt PSU be enough to support the new graphic card AND a couple of new hard drives?

On full throttle the Wattage of the GPU you are looking at is 254W. I believe a 500-Watt PSU Should be Enough for what you are looking for.

Well, I suppose I should go ahead and post my specs as well. I had so much fun putting this thing together last year!

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3

Hard drives: 640 GB HDD, 60 SSD

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.30 GHz

GPU: Radeon HD 6950

Memory: 8 gigabytes DDR3

OS: Manjaro Linux x86-64 / Windows 7 Ultimate

My last desktop was pretty good as well, too bad none of the parts were upgradable without replacing all the other internal guts. It also had a strange issue with the graphics card. it starts to sound like my old machine is making popcorn when I'm doing anything graphics intensive on it. Oh well, it usually doesnt have much of that to do anyway.

New graphics cards... Well, AMD just released test cards for their mobile 8xxx series: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-8790m-mars-benchmark,3382.html

It appears that this is mearly the desktop 7 series but for mobile as its Graphics Core Next based but not GCN v2. Outside of that, really just waiting for Intel's Haswell to hit the streets. Haswell should be a very nice upgrade from my long in the tooth Phenom II. No official word on whether or not Steamroller and/or Kaveri are still in the works over on the AMD side of things.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?

I actually  just hooked it all up today and it turned on, but rather than going to ubuntu my computer went to the BIOS screen and said "Insert Boot media" I am going to get windows tomorrow, but why would a video card change cause my computer to completely undetected ubuntu? Any clue?

Im running Windows 7 64-bit. I've used linux and snow leopard but didn't like either of them, so im stuck with windows. It would be nice to have an OS that isn't Microsoft that is fully compatible with all games though.

Yep, the new windows 8 is a pain. I do have heard that some games run better on it like Shogun 2 Total War, but also that it has even more problems with older games. Windows 7 already had some problems with older games like the original diablo and diablo 2. I hope one day such os comes.

I wont be getting windows 8, even if i get a slight FPS increase i wont notice it anyway, every game i play gets 100+ FPS, even when recording >.<

I hope some of the new games that come wont require windows 8. Like Black ops 2 required wont work on windows XP  because of the new directx and requires windows vista (that sucks)or newer os.

Dis here is meh baby

I originally got it for gaming, It didn't cost much for a gaming computer and personally I think it did/does a wonderful job.

Now...I don't really game, I am more into music writing and Role Playing, I will play some games on occasion but I dunno, I just kinda stopped enjoying games.

I do like it, It does what I need it to do and that's awesome in my book  :)

As for the last game I played...Probably minecraft, But I usually play minecraft when i'm watching a movie or something...If you're talking about real game that takes tons and tons of skill and stuff, Planet Side 2

And the game I used to be obsessed with was Gary's Mod, Zombie Survival...That and TF2
