What defines a Brony?

Agent505

Recommended Posts

I always disliked fake uneeded rite of passages, because I mean I am a bronie, I have watched all the episodes, I own two mlp items, and I have created several OC's. I haven't however watched all the episodes straight through, because that would take a long time and its also unhealthy.

So...What am I not a bronie now? I didn't complete your crazy rite of passage, so I guess I'm a quarter bronie, huh?

No. Just no, dude.

In my opinion, if you enjoy the show then you can choose to be a brony or not. And a being a brony doesn't mean that you can't despise the fandom. Because there are some aspects of the fandom (like this one right here) that I greatly dislike.

Yeaaaah other than liking the show there is not to much you can really expect from someone I mean as somepony said before were not a cult

"If you feel the need to treat me like garbage, I'll feel the need to throw you into the back of a compressing garbage truck."

"I'd rather "go to hell" for hugging a guy I like then makeout in heaven with a girl I don't."

From time and time again on this forum I keep seeing ponies asking are they a true Brony or Pegasister. I hear that question from time to time from other bronies and pegasisters I know.

Now all my friends say I'm a true brony, because of my tattoos and all the stuff I own of MLP (off the topic here in 2-3weeks I'll be making a topic called My little tattoos showing off the ones I have and updating on my new MLP Tattoo sleeves, which is going to be on both arms and well have all the ponies!)

Now do all of you think I'm a true brony because of all those things?? if you do well, sorry that does not make me a true brony.... nope, what makes me a true brony is this...

I LOVE MY LITTLE PONY!

That's what makes you a true brony or pegasister  also. Just loving the show, don't have to buy anything don't need to do what I do or anything. Just love the show.

So next time you may think you are not a "True" brony or pegasister or some jerk store is saying you are not a "True" fan, just think "Do I love the show?" If you said yes! well then yes you are!

Well, for me, the fandom first got me to become a brony. I first went on cheezburger and saw My Little Brony, so my first reaction was "wut?". But after that, I thought that was pretty cool, all the devotion and pride for a show about little technicolored ponies. I never understood the hate around it, I thought it was pretty badass. B)

Later on, I started to watch the episodes on Youtube to really find out the hype behind it. Well, soon enough, I watched both season before I knew it. If it wasn't for the awesome fandom, I probably would have never noticed the show. :)

interesting post, personally i think a true fan is someone who genuinely loves the show. Anyone who says differently doesn't have a grasp on what a true fan really is.

Yeah, I don't get the whole "real brony" thing either, the textbook definition of Brony/Pegasister is someone outside of the target demographic watching MLP and enjoying it, that's that.

Though I will say that if you are to be a good Brony/Pegasister, it has nothing to do with merchandise or knowledge of show trivia, but rather if you are actually being loving and tolerating to other people.

I wish I had rainbow hair like that. o^o I guess that makes me not regular pegasister. XD

All joking aside, I do think I am a real fan, as well as anyone who enjoys the show. When did this 'true' brony thing happen anyways? I've never been asked if I was a real fan or not, that just seems strange to me.

I count myself a true Pegasister, although I don't have any tattoos, and generally don't like to wear clothing with pictures. I love the show, but I don't run around trying to stuff it down people's throats like a lot of TRUE bronies do.

Exactly. Cause sadly I own ZERO merchandise, I don't get an allowance I can't get a job, and I'm broke, my mom won't buy stuff like toys and she thinks that I have enough clothes. So even if I can't get any MLP merchandise, I FREAKIN LOVE THE SHOW so I consider myself a true brony. ;) Good call my friend

I count myself as a "true" brony.

I dont own too many pony related things but, do I really need to, to count myself as a true brony?

The only thing anyone ever needs to prove that they are a "true" brony (or pegasister if you prefer) is the fact that you love MLP.

Weather, you embrace it by having exessors, or just loving it, you are a brony/pegasister ether way.  ;)

Am I a true brony?

Well, considering I go on MLPForums more than any other website and think of ponies as pure happiness instead of horses (as well as a lot of other things) I guess you could say so.

Although I don't want to seem like an elitist, I probably am a true Brony primarily for adoring the show and it's fandom.

Agreed by far.

This whole BS about needing to be a trivia quiz master and collector of EVERYTHING even remotely labeled to whatever just to be a fan of it is just that, BS.

Scenesters and their ilk are the worst at this. Fans are fans because they love what it is they love, and not because they're super geniuses with the background information.

I find the obsessive ones are usually the first to abandon things and point fingers though. Coming to terms with the fact they never actually liked the show but just wanted to show off and be someone for a little while.

True bronies don't try to shove the show down people's throats. They don't even necessarily have to own any merch. To me, a True Brony is someone who's a fan of the show, and to the best of their abilities, tries to live out the ideals purveyed in the show in real life. To truly love and tolerate. That's what a True Brony is to me.

Yes I am a true brony. Even though I collect merch and wear pony shirts to school, I don't shove the show down people's throats. Also I thin anyone could be a brony if they choose to be called one. You don't to have pony merch to be a brony. Just as long as you enjoy the show and want to call yourself a brony, you are a brony.

I guess you're a true brony when you want to be a brony.

Using myself as an example, I saw the first three seasons and I went to watch equestria girls in theaters. Despite all that, I didn't consider myself a brony. The reason being that I was still hoping that I would stop liking the show.

It wasn't until right after watching EG, that I realized that this wasn't going away, so from there I thought of myself as a brony.

The term "brony" itself has so many different definitions, that how can you pinpoint it on a "true brony"?

Is it someone who just likes the show? Is it someone who indulges in it 100%? I've heard it go either way and generally hear that it is just someone who likes the show.

Which is weird because I still question if I really am a brony. For the longest time I've felt like im stuck in between being a hater and a brony. I was a hater before all this but not "go out and insult fans" type hater, but I didn't understand the fans and thought everything about it was silly and stupid.

So now in present time, even though I've bought some pony merch and rewatched some of the seasons, the feeling of guilt and shame never fully went away. It got better with time, but is still in me and I feel it strongly from time to time.

So I wonder, can someone who second guesses it all be a brony? That's an open-ended question because the answer can be yes, no and maybe. Depends on how you look at it.

I say idk. I feel a brony wouldn't feel shame at all, so to me, that's another definition I'd add to the million definitions of "Brony".

Someone who has completely transcended from the grip of social norms and indulges in the fandom uninhibited.

And free.

My first experience with the show and the community was with a couple of bronies that were very forceful about the show and it wad really off putting. After I gave the show a chance I was a closet brony but still a brony. Now I'm open and proud of it. But I still don't see the difference, if you're a brony then you're a brony.

Can you be a fan with out being a brony?
And if so when do you cross that point of new return?

Is it owning a doll?

Getting a MLP T shirt?

Writing a fan fiction?

Memorizing a song on the show?

Like the only other fan base I've seen that came close to this one was star treck,

and just because you watched alot episodes didn't necessarly make you a treckie.

Knowing Klingon (LOL) did.  When have you gone to far down the rabit hole?

I suppose the way to be a brony is to simply watch the show. You can choose to be called a brony or not, it's completely up to you. Just watching the show and participating in the fandom guarantees you a brony...but once again, you don't have to be called one if you don't want.

Oh, and welcome to the forums. Enjoy your time here.

Aw that's no fun i was hopping for some over complicated formulated nonsence that would make twilight sparkle proud of how beurcratic it is.

and thank you LOL.  I mean if it was really hard to get I'd feel challenged to get it.

You know what's driving me nuts i generally have tons and tons of mlp things I'd like to talk about.. I signed on my brain just went "DERP!"

GAH!  where's the justice.  I've generally poked around E. Daily, and a few tumblers like fluffle puff, and the like, i'm hopping this sights a good forum ^^ I don't have a MLP forum sight really.

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.
