Hell, I don't know. I have an idea! Let's make a useless thread to debate pens and pencils! That seems like a good idea! I'm full of thooooo(sarcasm)oose...

gonna bust out the quills and indian ink to do some calligraphy? gotta do that shit by candlelight with a fireplace going in the background. keep it proper right? lol

im kinda torn between the two. pens are better for writing, pencils for drawing. the big difference lies in the life of each tool. pens will write for far longer then a pencil will, and if you break the pencil, you cant use it again without a sharpener or some sort of abrasion stone to give it a new tip. Pens also make you more careful, as theres no eraser, so youre less likely to make mistakes when using one.

my choice? the pen. more reliable with a longer service life, but it doesnt have the same rustic charm as a good ol #2

Either.

I personally have no preference between the two.

Pens make cool effects when drawing that pencils can't do.

And pencils are erasable :/

I never used a quill before so idk if I like them.

I personally hate Mechanical Pencils. The led is so thin, that whenever I try to write with one, it always breaks midstroke. I use pens to write almost everything at school. You don't have to sharpen it or anything. I mean, there are some downsides. You can't erase mistakes, and pens can break pretty easily. But overall, I just like pens better.

Pens. Because pencils are for people who make mistakes.

Nah, I use pencils for drawing and math, since I am terrible at both and well need the ability to erase easily. Everything else is pen though.

I can't stand using pens most of the time.  I'm really not sure why, but they make my handwriting look extremely ugly unless I'm super careful.  The only time I'd prefer to use a pen is when I'm signing something.

If I could, I would only ever use mechanical pencils for school.  They always have a good writing tip, but still have good opacity control for doodling.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

Pens for writing and general note taking. Pencils for drawing and the occasional doodling during class.

In most cases I perfer to use a pen. There's no need for sharpening and they tend to last longer. The only downside, not being able to erase (well there is white out), is negligible in my case since I tend to strike through mistakes in my writing when a pencil anyway. Why wouldn't I use the eraser you ask? Well that's because it's takes up time and these professors tend to try and get through topics quickly; I got to keep up the pace and that means erasing is a waste of time.

I almost always use pencils. I only use pens when I am forced to, or when I don't have a pencil with me.

I specifically use mechanical pencils. Those are my writing tool of choice.

MECHANICAL PENCILS UP IN HERE.

Seriously though, you can store the graphite in a really compact way, and the pencils themselves should last really long. I only don't like the erasers on them.

In my lines of work everything will have to be written with pen. We can't really afford to have someone erase an important part of the memo and replace with something else. While pencils are better in term of arts, pens give out more finality on things

No option for the master writing race of mechanical pencils?

Son,I am disappoint.Anybody who still uses a No.2 pencil needs to upgrade to the future of writing untensils that is mechanical pencils. They're godly, especially the Japanese ones.

I use pens more than I used to. I used to take notes in pencil but I would get my notes out later and the graphite would smear making it harder to read, so I decided to start using pens. I still use pencils (mechanical pencils) for tests, homework, and occasionally for taking notes in class.

I prefer mechanical pencils than any other writing utensil. Mechanical pencils (especially the lead) are smooth to write with, and they're less messy than traditional pencils and pens.

Erasable pens do come a close second. :3

Pencils, no doubt. Not only are they easier to use, but it allows you to erase, shade, and blend much better than a pen. I use black-tip pens for outlining unless I ONLY have pens. Quills look interesting though, I may try them out one of these days.
