Exactly what it sounds like. Which do you prefer as a search engine: Google, Bing, or Other.

I'm personally going with Google because I find Bing incredibly annoying and desperate. I mean every time I go to MSN to access my email, the Bing search bar starts typing: Try Bing. They are really desperate with all their anti Google ads and this just makes me think less of them. Google has also always seemed to just be better and less obnoxious. What are your thoughts on the search engine war?

I loved google because its so much more simple then or Bing. Its much quicker then Bing and by far is the most accurate for me whenever Im searching things up.

Its very nice to enjoy it since there's no ads, popups, and no news things going on.

Google's almost universally used. I don't actually use it all the time though. When I'm on my desktop computer, I'll use it; when I'm on my netbook, I use AVG Secure Search. It's pretty speedy, gets a great deal of results, and what I like about it is it automatically omits links with any type of malware in them.

Of the two, I'd choose Google, though I actually use DuckDuckGo because...

...

I don't know why. Just sleek and unintrusive I suppose.

As for the search engine war: I think Yahoo is out of the running, Ask Jeeves... Who even uses Ask Jeeves? Microsoft has a funny Google slander site http://www.scroogled.com/

"GOOWGLE R SPIEYS"

"SET BING AS HOMEPAGE" OR ELSSE plox

Yeah. Bing just feels desperate.

I would pick Google because:

1. I use it a lot

2. I have never used Bing

3. Google has all kinds of cool stuff besides the search engine like Gmail and Google Accounts and stuff

Bing, it has a more appealing sense of appearance and it is added by the Microsoft company, (I love Microsoft the best computer company ever)

I really like what duck duck go is doing and I use it on my desktop as my primary search engine. It has many features that I find useful and I like that it actually respects my privacy. Google is my second search engine and I've used it for a very long time. It's quite impressive how large this search provider has become.

Niether.  I have problems with Google's habits of following my every move.  I've never really used Bing, but I probably won't either.  I used Ask.com when I found out about Google and I've been using it ever since.  It also has a nice little community you can ask specific questions about and get answers from other users.

Back when I was taking Graphic Arts in High School, the computers defaulted to bing as a primary search engine, and I always got frustrated with it and went to google, because google is much more accurate with image searches.

DuckDuckGo beats them both. You only need to read this to see why. Plus its a bit faster. But unfortunately, the actual engine itself isn't really up to scratch yet and I find myself turning back to Google all the time.

Oh my gosh, after reading that I'm really scared! sad.png (If you don't know what I mean by "that" click the word "this" in the quote)

I really wish I could change my vote to "other" now! Although, still, if I delete the cookies that Google gives me, and not use my Google account while searching, I could go undercover... ph34r.png

P.S. I really suggest clicking the word "this" in the quote. It links to a website that tells you the truth about Google... It's scarier than you think!

I prefer google like the rest of the world :). I actually took that bing vs google thing when I was just screwing around, that bing themselves hosted and google won out every time. Google just has better results, a better interface and appearance and less annoying crap on it. Yes, it tracks you but that's not bothersome enough to make me use something else and I use ghostery to block tracking cookies anyway.

I prefer Google because of how you can search anything on there for it's sole purpose of being a search engine. It is very user-friendly when you use gmail, and you can basically be very familiar with it in a short period of time. Plus, it is used by everyone and by everyone I mean very universal. laugh.png

Google IS simply better because it's way cooler and well, it's google.

Seriously though, google is actually safer than Bing

140461558.jpg

(As you can see google only displayed 272 malware infected sites)

Google also has more relevant results to my searches

(And again it's much cooler)

..It's funny how you made this thread today, I read an article about google being 5 times safer than Bing just a few days ago.

(It's in swedish http://pcforalla.idg.se/2.1054/1.501998/bings-sokresultat-5-ganger-skadligare-an-googles )

Bing has a better image search engine in my opinion and that particular area it is better and there is the rewards program, which is nice.

I will be honest though, without the rewards program, I probably would not touch Bing. Google is just so well established and it is incredibly simple and easy to use. That is all I look for in terms of a search engine. Bing over complicates things.

I prefer Google because something feels off about bing... Also the fact that Microsoft tries to spam it in your face everywhere gets pretty annoying. Next time you type 'google' into Bing look at the 'news about Google' part just above your search results...It's almost always about bad news. Yeah, Microsoft that ain't gonna work. Do you really need your fingers in all the money jars?

Yeah. Bing just feels desperate.

Yeah, that's pretty much confirmed for Microsoft propaganda. 'Set Bing as Homepage'. Subtle.

Don't worry, it's not something that should be seen as outright scary. Targeted ads is more an annoyance than anything.

I mean, one time, I got bored and started googling "body pillows" and having a right chuckle. Amusing stuff.

Next two months - body pillow adverts everywhere

Adblock all the bloomin way.

The fact that numerous companies can see your data (address etc) also isn't something that should worry anyone too much (It shouldn't worry people, but at the same time I don't think it's a practice that should be encouraged). If the data these companies control were somehow hacked and released... What good is that to anyone? Anyone can go to some random house - a bunch of people on the internet having your address doesn't mean anything.

As for your searches being brought back to haunt you, I'd imagine that would only be a problem if you were searching for... unspeakable things.

One extra thing you can do on Firefox/Chrome to kick out the ad tracking companies is to get disconnect ( http://disconnect.me ) which prevents your data being sent to a bunch of third parties and saves bandwidth, meaning faster page loads!

Well google obviously...I can't see any conceivable reason to use Bing over Google, Bing isn't as well designed, it looks ugly, and it certainly doesn't get any better search results.

Thanks! For a second I thought that it would be really creepy and stuff... But I look at my extensions and remember I have adblock! Yeah, the ads that change to follow your searches kinda used to creep me out. But now I know that it's just ads. Thanks again! smile.png

I don't particularly like either, based on Bing's desperate-osity and Google's creepy stalker habits, in addition to it basically selling off information on people. :x

SO if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm welcoming them.

I really like the Google search engine because I can find what I'm looking for. I can't really say the same for Bing though. I agree with Lara though about Google's ways of tracking you I don't like that.
