gaming Controversial and Unpopular Video Game Opinions.

  • the PS4 is over hyped, I'd rather buy a Xbox One since its fixed its problems.

Pokemon is beyond over rated..

Duke Nukem forever wasn't the worst in the series, the game boy game was much worse.

Nintendo are doing the same as activation, releasing the same shit over and over.

killzone is also over rated.

Halo 4 is one of my favourites in the Halo franchise.

I prefer the original Half-Life over the sequels.

Colonial Marines wasn't terrible, it was just a meh game

GTA V is over hyped and over rated

I prefer GTA: San Andreas to GTA V

I prefer the saints row series to GTA

  • The Wii U is a good console, and will be the only 8th gen console I'll have, unless the PS4 has really awesome games down the line.
  • Red Dead Redemption is the only Rockstar game truly worth playing. This game not getting a sequel is beyond me.
  • Titanfall doesn't look all that interesting. Destiny, on the other hand, looks really cool.
  • SEGA was more innovative than Nintendo was when it came to their games in the 90's.
  • Pokemon X/Y are the best main series Pokemon games to date.
  • 3D World looks like it's going to surpass Galaxy quality-wise, and I loved Galaxy to bits.
  • Oh yes, and Nintendo is as good as ever.  Anyone who honestly thinks they're awful now compared to what they were in the 90's are hopelessly glued to their nostalgia goggles.
  • The N64 was Nintendo's worst console, barring the obvious Virtual Boy. And before you say anything, I loved the N64 and still have mine and enjoy playing it from time to time.

That about covers my opinions that would be considered "controversial," since opinions regarding video games can be that apparently. Come at me if you will.

Now for some more!

- The original Super Mario Bros. is overrated. Yes, it helped save the video gaming industry. Yes, it made a video game icon we love to this day. But guys. In the end, it's a floaty, somewhat repetitive, extremely anti-climactic video game. Not to say it isn't a good game, just overrated.

- Nintendo Hard was NOT fun for me. It was the wrong kind of difficulty, and I'm one of few who happily welcomes the easier nature of modern gaming.

- ... If more games let me be a male character and wear "girly" apparel, I'd be happy beyond words.

A LINK TO THE PAST IS A GREAT GAME BUT GETS TOO DIFFICULT TO BE ENJOYABLE!!

TOO FUCKING TRUE!
I can't even get past the damn castle in the BEGINNING!

LEGEND OF ZELDA DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A TOY LINE!?

There isn't? There used to be... I got Zelda, her white horse from OoT, Link, and Epona in a bundle from a garage sale when I was a kid 9unfortunately I didn't have a game system at the time so I didn't know about LoZ... by the time I got a N64 around a year or two later, I'd lost them all.

All right time for more

I'm really getting sick of the console wars. Seriously every time ign posts about the xbox one or ps4, there is usually a flame war and they act like you can't enjoy the other console. Both consoles have their advantages and flaws, what's better is up to the gamer.

I'm also sick of nintendo fans and call of duty fans arguing. I feel like it's specifically them who argue, both saying their games are the same. News flash they're both the same when you water it down (though I still enjoy nintendo, I just never cared for Cod, never been a fan of shooters)

I honestly don't see how they're the same and find Nintendo games to be much better than most shooters, but I may be biased, as I only last year got an XBox.
Also, there aren't only wars about the Xbox One and PS4, I've seen people raging about other consoles as well. It really shouldn't be such a big deal. So someone else doesn't share the same views as you, doesn't mean you have to start a flame war. Even if you must try to get someone to see this, it's possible to have an argument without raging and flaming.

1. Uncharted wasn't a game crafted by Jesus himself.

2. Halo isn't great. It almost isn't even good.

3. CoD is a fun game. While complete BS at times, it's still a fun game to play with friends

4. I don't get the love for old arcade machines

5. Graphics don't matter. While nice, it's just a sticker slapped on a trophy.

6. Xbox is better; the people aren't as bad as PS

7. Minecraft is just plain bad. It was a good idea, and people latched onto it's simplistic goals. Now, Mojang is milking the game dry. Tin? Bronze? really, Notch?

8. ANY serious gaming Youtuber is either a snake or boring af.

all I can really think of at the moment.

  • 5 years later...

Battle Royale is a horrendous cancer on gaming.

Devil May Cry is a very overrated series.

Loot Boxes and Microtransactions are not automatically bad and CAN be done well, they just usually aren't done well.

Breath of the Wild is one of the worst Zelda games and isn't good.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice is vastly inferior to the Souls series.

The Tiger Game.Com was ahead of its time.

Death Stranding looks really dumb.

The writing in GTA V is not good.

Ocarina of Time is better than Link to the Past.

FTL is a bad game.

Mortal Kombat 11 is the best Mortal Kombat game.

Minecraft absolutely deserves the title of best selling game ever.

Battlefield Bad Company 1 is better than Bad Company 2.

Call of Duty is a good franchise that has just been horribly managed for years. It definitely is making a comeback this year, finally.

The Neo-Geo sucks and has only a few good games.

Amiibos are cool.

Games should definitely be allowed to have an AO rating with no sales restrictions from retailers.

The Nintendo Switch UI is boring and bland.

Just developed another viewpoint that nobody will agree with: Slay the Spire is repetitive garbage. It is yet another indie roguelike that uses its roguelike nature not to make for fun and varied gameplay, but for constant cheap deaths and endless grinding just to get better stuff. Even when you do get better stuff, it is entirely RNG if you can actually use said stuff when you need. Can't believe this garbage is so highly rated. Not to mention its ugly art style. Tired of devs like this using the roguelike formula as a crutch for their shit game.

Really that's an unpopular opinion? I thought everyone praised Ocarina of Time

It would be nice if they make alternative home menu screens like they did with the Nintendo 3DS

I agree. But too bad there's a shortage of them

It is very highly praised, but there's been this big surge of people saying that LttP is better than OoT. To me it is like the people who always say Final Fantasy VI is far better than VII. Not saying they are wrong, but it comes across to me as a sorta 16-bit hipster thing.

I see.

My unpopular opinion is that I'm fine with Nintendo Switch Online. Still cheaper than what Sony and Microsoft are charging and the money could improve things in the long run.

Also, gameplay is more important than having the latest in graphics and horsepower

it really does lol, the plot feels like it's trying too hard to be weird, resulting in it being complex and convoluted

kojima admitted that when he tried to explain the plot to his development team, no one could understand it

but in his ultimate wisdom, he said, "So for me, I personally think that if people are opposed to you, then you're on the right track. That's game making for me."

truly avant-garde. but at least we have that guy from The Walking Dead in it!

Yeesh. Honestly that kinda makes him come across as really arrogant to me. Who knows, the game could turn out to be incredible, but it has been marketed horribly and simply doesn't look appealing at all to me. I think Kojima might be on a high-horse after all these years, people constantly worshipping him like a god could be a definite cause. I just wish we could have gotten Silent Hills instead, but Konami had to be Konami.

Yeah, there seems to be quite a trend nowadays claiming that N64 era games did not age well at all, while praising to the high heavens NES and SNES games as being ageless classics.

TBH, as someone who has been through all systems, I disagree with that notion strongly. Sure, the N64's graphics are outdated, but the N64's games as a whole were just fantastic and top-notch IMO. I can name many more N64 titles that I love and could play again any day versus the NES/SNES.

NES games (alongside GB games) are the very definition of games that did not age well. Not only are so many of them mini-games by today's standards that get old in five seconds, but many of the fuller games like Super Mario Bros struggle with really frustrating outdated stuff like lack of a save feature. It baffles me that when people think of aged games they look at N64's graphics and not the actual gameplay flaws of NES games. Very hypocritical coming from people who are always like "Graphics don't matter!".

Agreed. As a 90s kid, I was lucky to own an actual NES. In fact, only Nintendo home console I’ve skipped was WIIU, but I agree NES shows notorious age, and I’m with you N64 aged far better. I may argue with SNES, tho, but NES is old by today game standards.

Never played it myself but, tried watching Chuggaaconry's LP of Xenoblade Chronicles and that game is the most boring, most repetitive most monotonous most humorless experience i've ever sat through.

I actually like the art style for the new Battletoads game.  It's bright, colorful and I feel that it's cartoony nature really fits the franchise.  That would be given that Battletoads is already a goofy concept to begin with, being a Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles wannabe featuring anthropomorphic toads named Rash, Zits, and Pimple fighting The Dark Queen and her army of space mutants.  Given that it was already a silly idea to begin with, so I see this bouncy cartoony style that kinda reminds me of Rise of the TMNT as the type of art style that would best fit the franchise.  And I would rather see this over any kind of dark and gritty "realistic" style that people who are vehemently against  the new Battletoads would say is better.

My unpopular opinion? Well, if I'm being honest, I didn't like the Megaman X series nearly as much as the Classic Series. I'm not saying that they aren't good games, no. I just seem to prefer the older format more. Call me old fashioned.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Megaman makes a better mascot for Nintendo than Mario.

ALL the Rainbow Six games are janky, hard to control and graphically inferior... but they have adverts, money and hype, so they just keep making more.

The original Resident Evil was a bad game that just happened to come out at the right point in the Monster Craze of the 90's to sell.

Sports games seem like they're sorta self-defeating - playing them just keeps you inside and sitting, instead of outside and/or active... which is what SPORTS are supposed to do, right?

Kefka is the GREATEST  Final Fantasy villain of all time.  Period.

  • Naughty Dog takes itself way too seriously nowadays, Last of Us was boring as hell and just wasn't fun.
  • No clue why Overwatch is as popular as it is, it's one the most bare-boned FPS's I've ever played.
  • Sonic Generations is the only good 3D Sonic game.
  • Bioshock Infinite pales in comparison to the first 2.
  • Censorship in games should never be encouraged.
  • Far Cry series peaked at 3.
  • Kingdom Hearts is very dumb. Still fun, but dumb.
  • I think it's good that platformers are making a comeback.

Call of Duty is a great franchise.

PC is vastly superior to consoles.

EA is not the worst publisher in the industry.

Breath of the Wild is overrated.

The TG16 never got enough love.

Hidden object games can actually be good.

Microtransactions and lootboxes have potential to benefit the game industry.

All I got right now.

  • Super Mario Bros. 2 (Not the Lost Levels, Doki Doki Panic) is easily the best 2D Mario platformer.
  • Ocarina of Time is good, but far from 11/10 material.
  • Goldeneye 007 is a BAD game. But the remake is okay.
  • Paladins is a lot better than Overwatch.
  • Fallout 4 is better than Fallout 3.
  • Grand Theft Auto games are boring.
  • I hate 2K more than EA. The only games I intend to care about that they publish are the Borderlands games, and even then they've done so much to f*** over BL3, and everyone instead blames Gearbox when they did NOTHING wrong.
  • I don't like ANY of the Elder Scrolls games, and I have no idea HOW somebody could call garbage like Morrowind good.
  • Shadow the Hedgehog was good, just a bit unique. To be honest, it's almost as good as Sonic Adventure 2.
  • Generation 2 is my least favorite Pokémon generation by and far. Though Generation 8 is threatening to dethrone it. :unamused:

I have quite a few.

  • I find Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door mediocre.
  • I don't enjoy the original Mega Man series very much. The X series is fantastic, however.
  • While appealing, the 8 bit and 16 bit aesthetic is getting somewhat tiring at this point. I do understand the practicality of it, though.
  • The Pokemon series is enjoyable, but it has failed to meet modern standards of game design since X and Y, and only got more egregious from there.
  • I still consider The Wind Waker the best Legend of Zelda game thus far.
  • Though it can be a touch tedious at times, MOTHER 1 is still a very enjoyable and unique game.

I may have more buried in my subconscious, but that is all I can think of at the moment.
