Do you hate MLP conspiracy theories?

If you have no idea what I mean by conspiracies, I mean like over the top theories.

Ex:
Discord is Star Swirl the Bearded.

Or something like that.

I really love conspiracies because they are in a way very intriguing, but I am curious to take a peek through a different point of view.
Do you dislike them, why do you dislike them?
If you like them, why do you like them?

I like them! It's a lot of fun to debate these questions here on the forum and a lot of great conversations and ideas are born from them. It doesn't really matter to me if they end up being true or not (though I would prefer not to have any foreknowledge of what's to come from the show) it is great to talk about them! :D Besides we need something to talk about off season.

It does get confusing sometimes, and a bit wierd.

Hate is a bit too far though, It is usually funny when people comes with good theories like: Scootaloo is a chicken pony. (it is a joke but still)

I would say neutral on this one. (it makes fun debates though)

Hmm... I'd think to some people it might depend upon what exactly you mean by "conspiracy theories."  Does it have only to do with the plot of the story and the characters that exist within it, or do you also include external sources (real life events that may have inspired the story)?

Personally, I'm a fan of conspiracy theories in general, if only for the fact that I find them entertaining.

One of my favourites about MLP:FiM is the "creepypasta" theory that the show's six main characters were inspired by six teenage girls who supposedly all killed themselves on the same day, despite not being otherwise related.  If anypony's interested in hearing about it, I found the story in a YouTube video entitled "The Truth About My Little Pony."

Another theory I like is one that came from a fanfiction, the name of which I sadly can't remember, which was about the origin of changelings  and the reason for Luna's banishment.  I'll have to find the story so I can link to it here, but it was a really good one.

I like them because it gives us the ability to think of the past of Equestria that we don't see. Personally with your example, I do believe that they are the same pony, but I won't go into here as it is it would take me many pages to explain. I also believe that Luna and Chrysalis were old friends and didn't know that Chrysalis planned to attack Canterlot. They can be a lot of fun. Until you meet those who believe them with an undying passion who don't think of anything else but that being correct. (They exist. I've met them)

My favorite one was by Bronycurious. It was a Chrysalis is actually Luna who is still evil and is playing the long con against Celestia sort of thing. It was awesome but extremely unlikely. ^_^

I quite like some of them because they are interesting to think about and debate about. There are good and bad conspiracies, but for the most part, I see them as a good and fun way to have a discussion about the show. One of my favorites is Discord is actually Star Swirl the Bearded. It's a cool idea to think about, even though it is most likely fake. :)

Sometimes they can be annoying. Emphasis on sometimes. The post season 3 stuff is a good example, some of it. Stuff like how Twilicorn will ruin the show and in what ways, as well as other overly dramatic atrocities that will make all of FiM crumble, those doom and gloom theories get old.

Beyond that, I like them. It shows creative thinking and it can be fun coming up with different theories for a show we all love. :) Discord being Starswirl is an example, though that one is way up in the air. :P

I like them but sometimes people go a little off the wall based on little to no evidence at all. I mean, the Starswirl the Bearded being Discord thing has been debunked a million times now and even that has more merit than many theories I've heard.

The most amusing one I've heard so far was mentioned by Bronycurious on the review of the Canterlot wedding saga he did with Anthony C. I still think it's utter bunk but by amusing :)

There's no real harm in, so I fail to seen the problem with a little Wild Mass Guessing. Every fandom that has ever been and will ever be has had people throw out theories both sane and off the wall crazy, so long as it hasn't been jossed completely like the Discord - Star Swirled connection then let the theories fly! Hell, I've got my own crazy ideas about somethings and Star Swirl's true identity just might be one of them...

It varies.

Sometimes headcanons are quite intriging or entertaining. Other times they are infuriatingly inflammatory.

Case examples: intriguing: Spike being a lithivore means he eats gemstones and other metallic compounds in the same way we so graciously enjoy carbohydrates (sugars). He also can be somewhat intoxicated by carbohydrates, just like how we enjoy alcohol.

Entertaining: I heard it said that Friendship is Magic is a child-friendly hermeneutic of a much more Tolkien-esque fantasy, complete with giant sky-battle over Canterlot that we never saw, during the events of the first two episodes.

Infuriating: Apple Bloom being the incestuous result of Big Macintosh and Applejack, to abhorrently mention one of the more docile examples.

Those who actually posit theories that try to connect Equestria to Reality are so absurd that it would be funny if it weren't so sad how many people seem to actually believe them.

I hate conspiracy theories...except the ones that have to do MLP. The MLP ones are one of the only times I will approve of them by simply how interesting they actually are. Some of them are interesting...some of them are quite stupid...it just depends.

If you want a better term, you could use the ever-famous TvTropes name "Epileptic Trees" for "conspiracy theories." It's a pretty humorous term and puts it in a much more fictional-sounding light than something as controversial as conspiracy theories.

Some of them can get pretty ridiculous but there are a few that are interesting.

I would like for Discord to be Star Swirl the Bearded but I won't bump the theory because it has many flaws.

I think they're stupid. I've read some that are so ridiculous that it just makes me feel stupid to read them. How many of these ridiculous conspiracy theories have become true? None. How many every will? None.

I don't mind ridiculous fanfics because then we have a nice story and a good explanation but a lot of these theories are things people just pull out of their butts like "HEY GUYS WHAT IF RARITY IS ACTUALLY RELATED TO CELESTIA" with no canon backing or real thinking involved.

Just my opinion though. Read them if you like, I just think they're silly.

Edit: Good ones are ok, but most of them these days are just too over the top to ever be taken seriously.

I don't mind them in the least, but I would like to make a bit of a correction. You're using the phrase Conspiracy Theories, when you actually should be saying rumors. The two are not interchangeable. Here are two examples:

Conspiracy theory:  I heard MLP:FIM was intentionally designed to publicly expose adult fans of animation and subject them to ridicule. (I made that up, honest!)

Rumor:  I heard Discord is really Starswirl the Bearded.

See the difference?

I don't actually mind any conspiracies or headcannons of the sort as long as they make sense.

The thing I DONT like is when someone uses their headcannon for things like: a driving force for their rage toward a character, to use it to convince others to dislike a character, or to insult others for liking the character because of said conspiracy.

This is problem with headcannons and people who take them too seriously because they are carelessy hating with half-truths or no facts at all.

Posibility and Potential are my two favorite words.

I see a difference between a good and a bed headcanon.

Other day I watched some YT-chanal with few videos where author explaned her headcanons (like who is Discord or who is Blueblood and stuff).

In her headcanons she took one, possibly two facts from the show, and then added about a dozen things she made out. Those she used to explain one question each time. The problem is: any of her assumptions can be prooven wrong by the show any time. And then the whole theory can be thown avay.

A good headcanon uses no more then a couple assumptions to explain as many facts as possible. If, however, it's other way around: if a headcanon uses many assumptions to explain just a couple of facts - it's not a headcanon anymore.

It's a fan-fiction.

Because the author of such "headcanon" has ivested much efford in it, and he may be unwilling to give up his theory that easily. Then he may start to dismiss new disproowing facts from the show. Which inevitably makes his theory the fan-fiction.
